You might ask: Why Islamic principles? The answer lies in the fact that every culture and religion holds the key to understanding peace in its own unique way. By delving into the rich tapestry of Islamic teachings, we've unearthed gems of wisdom that shine a new light on

We have taken a first principles approach, so it's based upon the Quran, the early practices of the Prophet Muhammad and his companions and the prophetic tradition. It's about actually taking the language that other communities know and understand and marrying them up with other language in the context of international peacemaking, so that they're more explicable, so that people feel more connected to them, and that it's more locally rooted.
The Guide is not about imposing Islamic principles in different contexts; however, it's about understanding the Islamic approach to conflict resolution. It provides new tools, it also, as a field of conflict resolution, decolonizes conflict resolution, because when Western conceptions alone are used to understand conflict, then a lot of times we overlook or underestimate local indigenous processes.
It also looks at the ways we can ensure that women are included within the peace process and why it is very important, and in fact central to Islam. The result is a practical guide that is both rooted in tradition and forward-thinking; a guide tailored to address the unique challenges of conflict resolution in the 21st century. Or, a new lens through which peace can be envisioned and enacted.
