Great video. I've just started playing duplicate and was getting confused by learning advanced techniques, so I'm relearning my basic skills and this is a great illustration of why the basics are foundational, why they work, and how to apply them logically - step by step. Thank you so much!
Thank you for a very nice series - my wife and I are trying to re-learn bridge after a 40+ year hiatus. You have helpfully numbered the first 3 lessons - is there any way you could organize the rest of the sessions into a logical sequence? Play of the hand hasn't changed much but we're struggling to adapt to the newer bidding systems.
I just discovered these lectures the other day and I like them very much. In the past I've too often had bridge principles stated with perhaps an example but no explanation of the reasons for the principle. Mostly Peter does a good job of motivating the principle with the necessary (at least for me) "why" the principle is a good idea. That extra information helps me to remember the principle and to apply it intelligently rather than blindly. I noticed an exception to this rule in this particular lesson and that was for the principle that you "don't lead away from an unsupported Ace". Actually I'd always heard that principle stated without the word "unsupported" in there. But the simpler principle, "don't lead away from an Ace", I thought I did understand: In a suit contract, an opponent holds a singleton in that suit then your lead opens your ace to a ruff when it is played later. In no-trump, leading an ace is generally a bad idea since you will only pick up your opponents lowest cards though it may make sense as part of a strategy for setting up to run the suit later. It would seem that if you have a king supporting your non-trump ace in a suit contract then leading the ace would still be a bad idea for the same reason
Awesome video with great explanations - I've been tearing my hair out trying to learn bridge and this has cleared up a lot of confusion for me. Can't wait to watch the rest. Thank you.
ThankU... so much, u r a v good teacher, explaining in details & all options with summary, really enjoyed..& learnt... pls let me know where I can Learn abt understanding various bidding conventions & defence to it...
WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION FOR BEGINNER, SUGGEST YOU ACTUALLY SHOW A 9KAYNOF THE HAND, TOO MUCH CONVERSATION WITH OUT LETTING A PERSON VISUALLY UNDERSTANDING WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. GOOD EFFORT TO WANT TO EXPLAIN TO PEOPLE BUT WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION FOR A BEGINNER, 😢🎉🎉 JUST SHIW THEM HIW TO OKAY A SUMOLE HAND. WITHOUT KNOWING EVERY ASPECT OF THE PLAY,,
IT WOULD BE HELOFUL WHENPARTNER ON BOARD BIDS INE NO TRUMO WOULD HELP TO REVIEW WHAT THAT MEANS AND THEN EXO,AIN WHY THE SHIWN HANDS OASSES, YOU DO NOT EVEN MENTION THIS, I THINK YOU KNOW TO MUCH TO KEEP IT SUPER SIMPLE FOR A BEGINNER, YOU ARE GIVING WAY TOO MUCH INFO FOR A BEGINNER, THIS INFORMATION SHOULD BE IN A LEVEL TWO EXPLANATION,
Love your easy to follow suggestions! Thanks for your help
I love bridge and your explanations are so simple and easy to understand !

Great for novices!!

Excellent...but perhaps too much in one go for an elderly novice like myself?
