The way you broke down the dish and explained every detail was really helpful. It's great to see such a thorough review, and you really captured what makes Hainanese chicken rice special. Sounds like a solid option for a hearty lunch at Sunnybank!
Belting out the videos over the last few months. P.S, I think the cucumber slices (in some Asian dishes) is used for its neutral/bland flavour as a contrast, and it is suppose to help balance out the heat or spiciness of a dish. It also helps cool you down a bit too, but as you say, it could just be plate filler?
@@GregsKitchen Thanks for the reply Greg. I myself found out through an Aussie chef who specialises in Thai cuisine, and it makes sense now that I think about it, as I love spicy food too. FYI, he was popular on Aussie TV about 10 - 20 years ago. David Thompson (Chef). Cheers!
God how Market Square has changed. I remember it from the 70's. The fish and chip shop, 3 potato scollops for 10 cents. Best chips with tomato sauce. Used to play bike tiggy there when the shops closed and on weekends.
It looks like a wonderful dish with a mix of carbs and proteins in a nice balance. Presentation is perfect. It looked fresh and healthy. I would even save the condiment containers for traveling with my medications.
haven't been to market square in a while but man they really done it up nice, must be all the imports coming in lately, used to go to hotstar after a movie and a go at fun house when i was in highschool
Ahh, what is sometimes considered the national dish of Singer here uh GregO and ones I devoured there sold in most food courts and by hawkers had the cucum as a garnish unfort… definitely never witnessed tomat. Best rendition I’ve seen is at Miami Rice down there in la Outrigger Resort on the highway. Typical nonchalant Asian service but the grub is superb. Cheers Gibbo
One of my favourite dishes - I like to do a cheat version in a rice cooker every so often. No soup is a bit of a letdown, but the price seems reasonable.
One of my favourites I had it the other day at the shopping centre in Chiang mia where I live I get the Gai tod which is the sliced fried chicken absolutely beautiful it's very big all around Thailand and always comes with the soup and cucumber, never tomato
Greg, I live next to marketsquare sunnybank. You have to try ithai restaurant at marketsquare it will blow your mind. Chill fried rice is awesome. I usually get chilli fried rice, beef black bean, pad see ew. The portions are enormous so people usually order a couple of dishes to take home in doggy bag (takeaway containers $50 each). Take your scales too.
Being a traveler like you say you are you know that if you go to another country and go to an authentic restaurant they are cooking for their people so when one of them opens up a restaurant in another country they have to tweak their menu to satisfy the people in that country.
hey greggo, you should try going to inala plaza for a bahn mi or pho. its basically the hood of brisbane but the food is real good. Another spot in market square is Satay boss. They do a nice Nasi Lemak with 2pc fried chicken and satay chicken, give that a go next time you are in sunnybank
Thanks for reviewing this dish . I’ll check it out in the near future . You must try “satay boss” which is in that same market square . The satay ( only available on their dinner menu ) is amazing .
I’ve had the Michelin 5 star rated Hainanese Chicken Rice at Tian Tian in Singapore and nothing beats that Greg…the chicken just falls apart on your fork it’s so tender and the rice is mind blowing….but as Sunnybank is closer than Singapore…I’ll give this a go Grego!
Hey Grego, I always enjoy your uplifting enthusiasm. I agree, pretty decent feed for the $. Always good to have some side "salads" and the tomato, cucumber looked fresh (not tired, ie:4days old). Haha, the scales, beauty! All your fans were there mate (whirling away), ah well you get that, hard for a legend, like you, to stay anonymous.
I reckon the Wednesday special they were showing on the menu, Char Kuey Teow with Seafood at $14.90, is much nicer than the Hainanese Chicken Rice, and it's only priced $1 more than then Hainanese Chicken Rice. 😋 And Greggo, FYI, it's pronounced "HIGH-NAN-EASE."
Looks like a pretty chilled environment. But it was a Tuesday. Grego. You need to get yourself a couple of sets of stainless steel travel cutlery and keep them in the cars console or glovebox. I don't know how you can eat off a plastic fork. Yuck.
Thais do a chicken rice based on Hainanese Chicken Rice, but it's never quite as good. What makes HCR special is the tomato, cucumber and the red and green sauces. In this case they didn't do the green which is spring onion (shallots in qld lingo) and ginger dowsed in smoking hot oil.
Love chinese food il sus this place out for sure i went to a place in Brisbane on Elizabeth st food was pretty good but the best part was i stacked the plate so high im sure they lost money 😂
walking around public with the scales lol
Try explaining that one when ya get pulled over 😂

He got a job to do

Best Aussie reviewer on UA-cam hands down on ya Grego
he is highly watchable and honest in his reviews
Are there any others nowadays?
@@GregsKitchen Yep
He was but now he’s more comedic than reviewer. I been watching him for over 8 years but now I think it’s time to say goodbye
@@ayokac i love the comedy, and the reviews.
Nothing better then getting super baked on a Friday and watching GregO
I agree 💯
What a loser.
We don't get baked on this channel, we get air-fried.
Me too.
We get air-fired and stir-fried 😂❤
Now that looks very nice Greggo!. $13.90 looks very worth it!
Damn i forgot about this channel! This is the first time I've seen it in my feed since fuckin FOREVER!
He scored some special herbs 🌿 whilst in that suburb then a succulent Chinese meal. Ripped again. Bong on bro 😎
Word up 😎

Market square has one of the smallest carparks and highest concentration of bad drivers in the world
LOL! The ultimate combination.
Lots of ..me turn left now😊

Cucumber (fresh) always nice and not cheap, plate filler maybe not. I agree with your "balance instead.
Thanks for the tip, good knowledge!

I used to get hair cuts from Paul there as a kid around 1988
@@zaproodas9626 I remeber the barber shop next to the fish and chip shop. I actually got a kitten from there once.
Been in Brisbane 4 years and never knew this place had a full plaza lol gonna try it greggo thanks mate you bloody ripper
I hope you have a wonderful new year grego , you make me and my wife’s day at times lol 😜

Loving these reviews.you have now become part of the solution rather than endorsing the problem.on ya mate.
Bored of the burgers and fried chicken Grego?
I’m liking your new takeaway diet 😆
It's not a diet, it's an adventure!
The cucumber gives your tongue a little factory reset between turns at the main. How was the parking?
I park down the road and walk up

Ah good old Australia where the menus are now written in English and the country of origins language. Makes it more authentic.

How much for a gram....of hainanese chicken rice??
That corner area Grego at Sunnybank is pretty pretty busy with cars I have visit there one day perhaps on Public transportation cheers for the review.
Yeah the bus is a good choice!
Looks like a succulent Chinese meal!
Looks gold Grego few fresh veg all good 👍
In Thailand that would run you 60 baht....less than $2 USD. And it would certainly include soup!
And in Thailand they get paid fk all.

very Thai looking to me. tomato and cucumber to refresh your taste buds Greg so to cleanse your plait so you can taste the species again.
