Yes, Rannoch Moor is a magical place and lovely to photograph when the weather is fine. Not so friendly when the wind is blowing at 40 or 50 mph and the rain or hail or snow is hitting you sideways on!! All good images but my favourite, I think, is at 6.22. There's something that just reaches out to me.
Totally agree!
Top tier, Henry. You are with out a doubt one of the very best. Up there with Gavin, Thomas and Nigel. Thanks for sharing this wonderful journey we call life 🙌❤️📷
Another great adventure Henry.
Yeah Rannoch Moor is a magical place to photograph.
Great image's as usual mate.
Catch you on the next one.
Another awesome video. I love catching up on your adventures.
It can be sorely tempting as soon as you've got past Loch Lomond, to just hit the gas pedal and not stop until you reached Glencoe, but, like you've discovered, that would mean missing out on the extra-ordinary Rannoch Moor. There is a vast amount of space in Rannoch Moor wth ever-changing weather, vast skies and landscapes and an unlimited number of photographic compositions. I'd recommend that any-one with a camera stops at the various laybys on the moor and take some shots.
You got some amazing images here - good to see the new vegetation, the mountains and the skies.
I am a little bit tired of the thing where every photographer must use a long shutter speed every time there is moving water or waves involved. To me it just look artificial, or dare I say....out of focus and/ or blurry. I much prefer the texture in the waves and the frozen moment by a waterfall.....that said, I used a ND 1000 filter on a waterfall yesterday, and have always been a hypocrite, hehe
🤣🤣🤣🤣love that last sentence🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
Have you had a look at the Olympus 12-100 f4 PRO lens? Even crazier focal range and its stabilization will sync with Olympus/OM Bodies for even steadier photos etc.
I've also driven through Rannoch Moor on several occasions heading towards Glencoe and Assynt. I stopped off by that same Lochan a few years back, knowing I must return soon. Next year it is!
you can't say "it doesn't get any better then this /that" Nigel has a UA-cam copyright on that expression 🤣
I always drive straight through there as well, note to self to stop off !
Absolutely!
Always have your Scotland videos up on the big screen Henry! You do my homeland proud with your awesome images! 💙🏴💙
Magic
Beautiful photos as always Henry. Love the fact you pronounce Loch correctly and not Lock 😊....Be careful on that road, they drive far too fast!
Thanks! 😃
Thanks for doing a video at a location us old ones can easily visit.
Some great photos.
Thanks Henry
Glad you enjoyed it Chris, thanks mate
Lovely location. I'm surprised you didn't use some of the really close rocks in the water as foreground though.
Me too. Those rocks were crying out to be in the foreground of some picture or other! ;-)
Great scenery and images Henry as usual.
Thanks for bringing back memories of our walk over Rannoch Moor when doing the Pennine Way many years ago.
Late to comment here as been off mobile while tramping around hills in Borrowdale with camera inspired by yourself.
Words of warning. Please if you do visit here park where Henry shows or elsewhere off the road completely. No spaces? Move on and come back. The number of head on accidents that close the road and near misses on this stretch of road is insane - all because idiots simply stop for photos. It's a straight piece of road that can turn into a race track! 🙏
Ah Rannoch Moor, along with Glencoe, two of my most favourite places on the whole planet! Also Henry, further back towards Tyndrum, on the RHS driving south, not too far from the yellow gate is a tree growing out of a large boulder. I've always thought that there is an image there, but I've never been able to stop to see if there is, or not, as I have always been on a tight schedule to get somewhere. One day though,,,,,,,,,,
beautiful scenery, will get back to Scotland one day, I'm envious about your gear, I love my landscape & could carry similar but where i live in the Blue Mountains Australia it is full of bird life so I've got to carry a big long lens for the birds just in case, oh well that's part of having the photography itch.
Quite a busy road there, glad you didn’t get skittled. Love the images. Hope the Z7 will be back very soon, while the OM is serving you well, there’s something about the Z7 that I always love. Couldn’t ever part with mine.
Hope so
Wow! Sorry to hear about your “missing” camera. The longest I have had for a Sony repair is two weeks. That was an outlier, to get a part for my 100-400 lens. Because they took more than a few days, they shipped me a lens to use during repairs. My cameras and lenses are almost always beck to me in 3-4 days from the date I ship to Sony.
Thanks for taking me along!
Glad you enjoyed
Rannoch Moor is such a beautiful place, and after looking at the coordinates on maps, I think I may have tried to photograph from the same spot once. It was a beautiful evening for sure. But the midges were horrendous. I lasted about 2 minutes before packing up.
Great vlog Henry! I've driven past the spot many times on my travels up to the Highlands, stopped a few times to grab a few shots but never strayed more than 5 metres from the road because I'm travelling with the family and a car full of luggage! It is a brilliant location, worthy of spending more time there. Your shots have reminded me to spend a proper day there in the future. Out of midge season of course!
Please do!
Kudos on your pronunciation of Loch. :-)
Sitting in Donegal watching you, after an unsuccessful day out photographing. You make it all look so easy. .
What have you been capturing today under the clouds
Where in Donegal?
@@mjja00 near Killybegs
@@shootNbreezeIRL not much lol ...well not much of any worth...my hands i8n plaster and photography proved difficult
I took that first shot you have last November. The loch was frozen, with a thin layer of snow on it. Someone had taken a walk across the ice, leaving a trail of footprints which was a useful leading line. But not me - I like my legs warm and dry.
I’m off to Lerwick on Saturday. Hope to get some moody skies if nothing else. I was in the mull of kintyre last year, stayed at Southend in an old lifeboat house next to the beach. Excellent place for photography.
Great video Henry ..I've only been fortunate to photograph at that location once before but it was brilliant....the trees on the Islands make for great images as you have shown....many thanks and best wishes.
Aahhh Henry, as usual, you dont disappoint. Great adventure, good sir! Enjoy your insights, vision, and techniques. Alway a joy to watch you work.
Awesome, thank you!
Aye, Rannoch Moor is a special place. Its good over the other side if the road too, just further along, looking in the other direction. I go walking in the mountains in the Glencoe area often and almost always can't resist stopping at Rannoch Moor en route. Different light at different times of day means it is ever changing. Enjoyed your video, as usual. 👍
Thanks again Henry for sharing your experience with great comments and pics.... location is interesting & you captured everything well without much sunlight... cheers from Australia 🦘🦘☺️
Many thanks!
Hey Henry it's always great to see you in Scotland great video all the best to you 👍🏻🏴
Thanks 👍
Love the moody photographs - nice work!
Thanks a lot!
Loved the video Henry. Last week you inspired me to do some street photography. Grabbed my compact and despite the photos not being very good I had a lot of fun.
That is awesome!
Hey Henry, I'm new here... I'm loving your energy especially as you go around and explore this foreign (from my perspective) landscape. It's great to see, your imagery is very nice as well. Thanks for sharing your adventures man!
Thanks and welcome
Great video and super shots. The moody sky is perfect,
Many thanks!
If you sent it in to the company to be fixed, 5 to 6 weeks is usually expected. I know we're so used to things being at a super fast pace these days, but proper repair shouldn't be rushed. How the camera comes home soon Henry. Very pretty area. And yes, amazing sky conditions.
Let me ask you a question. Would you use a site like Instagram to direct people to your squarespace page?
Thanks for the info! Good point regarding the repair. I do use IG a little but yes 👍🏼
@@HenryTurnerphoto Thank you Henry.
Good to see you back up the road fella, your enthusiasm for Scotland, is always pure dead infectious so it is, and your photography, is stunning, very different from the astrophotography i do with a CCD and tracked telescope. always look forward to you dropping a new video. You're a toff sir! : )
Hi Henry, another grand day out and thanks for sharing. I'll take a peep at your website.
Thanks a lot 😊
Great video Henry those photos were beautiful looks an amazing place to be 😊
Have you sent the camera to a repairer near Gatwick, then? If so, normal - just returned my Sony after about six weeks.
Ah I'm not sure where it is mate
Oh man ! What a location! Your mic was buzzin’ as much as you! 😂
Yes it was!
Thanks for the video..loved it
My pleasure 😊
Another great video Henry. I have parked in that very spot on a few occasions, when I go up I always try to get to the moor for sunrise or just after, it is a cracking place to photograph always different light I love photographing the mountains in particular when the light hits them with a nice sunrise
I was gutted I missed the live,chat
I bet you could go there everyday of the week and leave with unique images!!
@@HenryTurnerphoto most definitely. I am heading back up in November on our way to Skye
Great video Henry and some great pictures
Thanks very much Sarah!!
Another great vid Henry, I did notice the drone footage as I'm just getting started on drone photography.
Cheers! Yep the drone is great
Hi Henry, one of the few channels where I click the like button before even seeing what you're offering us, cos I know it's gonna be quality! You asked!, No.. to the 'Top Gear' shots! and No.. to the Nigel Danson phrases. lol. Just messin with ya mate, love what you're doing, keep it up. Much appreciated.
Awesome, thank you!
@@HenryTurnerphoto You're welcome 👍
A fine collection of images this week and once again you are showing the beauty of this place perfectly, so all I can say is come on Henry, get the house bought up here, you know it makes sense 🙂
Haha thanks a lot mate!!
Hi Henry, love ur work and fascinated by the use of the OM5 whilst the Z7 is away in the hospital. I run a full Frame and a earlier version of the OM5 and love the lightweight nature of the system but always worry about resolution. However, it certainly does not seem to be a problem in your images. It will be interesting to see if you swap back to the Z7 when it gets back.
Thanks! I definitely notice a drop in resolution, but it hasn’t bothered me. Only really notice it when magnifying in heavily in LR
Yay Henry, the location is photogenic, love your shots, one with the rocks in the water looks like some kind of animal with a lion's head! No I'm not a Nessie freak!
Thanks 😃
Your co-ordinates took me straight there on Apple Maps. Shame I'm in Australia 🙃
I just love the vibrant green of the trees against the dark mountains! Beautiful! But that image at 13:20 also is something special!
Thank you very much!
What 3 words is good, too, for locations.
Hi Henry.
My Pentax KP has been away since the 29th of April. So, like you are still waiting .
Thx Henry. Hit me up
For Ireland
Nice one 👍🏼
In the United States my z6 took about a month. I think it is based how many they have to repair. a friend had a canon that took 3 months.
You were so lucky with the weather, when I was there it rained like I have never seen before!...Thank you for sharing your time with us again!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for taking us along on another wonderful adventure!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great location, great shots! I’m intrigued as to why you shoot the Leica lens wide open most of the time. Any particular reason?
No particular reason mate. I’m not fussy about f-stop values unless I need to be
Again, that was most enjoyable with stunning images 🏴👍
Many thanks!
Top drawer!! Your style shines through. Thanks for mentioning the update of equipment..
Thanks for watching!
Some great shots there Henry, great video too 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Henry, another very good video and excellent compositions. One issue (it may be my issue) is when you show the images you've taken they appear on my monitor to be very soft and unsharp, more so than your video and the images you have on your website which are fine. Is this a video settings or hardware issue?
Thanks mate! YT compresses a lot, but I will look into this too just incase it’s my mistake. Thanks for the heads up
Great video as always but why would you want to use camera gadgetry to "crop" a photo when you can use Lightroom to quadruple the pixels and you can crop in yourself with more detail?
Thanks! The digital crop feature doesn’t actually crop the image destructively in camera if that makes sense, you still crop in LR. I just prefer to use it as a compositional tool in the field 👍🏼
At 11:40, I agree that the ripples add to the photo. I dislike photos where the water is totally smooth, unless there is a great reflection, as they look contrived - nature isn't like that. Great spot and beautiful photos. Thanks for the visit.
Hi, I'm from the states, I'm coming to Scotland in a few weeks, with my family, I have already registered my drone and me to fly. I bought a DJI min 4 pro to fly because of the 249 gram rule, could i bring Mavic 3 pro and fly that as well? I can't find anything about flying a heavier drone. Do you or your viewers have any experience with Mavic 3 pro's in the UK?
I've been a fan since you started, it'll be cool to come to the places you done photography, I'll be going to Isle of Mull, Isle of Skye and Isle of Arran.
Great video and photos 👍
Thanks 👍
do you have any long term goals with photography?
Is the OM5 sensor the same as the Lumix GH5? Using the Leica 12-60mm with GH5 mostly for video which is fantastic. Using Nikon full frame (Z8 and z6ii) for photography. Love the vids!!!!
Thanks John, I haven’t a clue to be honest 😂
@@HenryTurnerphoto the pics are fantastic too
Henry, I can always tell when you’re going to use the OM 5. You look like a colorful kangaroo with you green pouch. Ha! Ha! Thanks for the videos my friend. 🎉
😂😂👍🏼
👍📷😎🏴
Great place, don't really mind where you go, just like your adventure videos, but I notice you seem to struggle with your mental health when abroad, whether that is from self implied pressure, I'm not sure, but you always seem to buzz in Scotland
So is the chat over?
That's it mate, sorry it was quite brief but thanks for dropping in. Perhaps I will do it again sometime
The concept didn't work for me. I couldn't keep up with the video and the chat. My suggestion would be do a live chat separate from your videos.
Unfortunately Henry it is a Nikon thing the service is very slow compared to some of the other brands and l certainly don't say that to put Nikon down it just a bit of an annoying fact.
Think yourself lucky its not a Sony. The control wheel on my A7r3 malfunctioned twice in the 1st year and they had it for 9 months. To add insult to injury they refused to repair it the 2nd time as they said it had severe corrosive inside caused between the 1st and 2nd repair
As it was only used on 2 sunny days during that time i think they just didnt want to honor the warranty. They were very reluctant to return the camera and only did so with the statement that if i opened up the camera for a look inside it would void the warranty anyway. Nikon might be slow but i hope they're at least honest.
