Yes, he is unfairly persecuted due to his differing political stand from the long ruling party. No doubt it's a painful personal experience for anyone who is innocent but falsely imprisoned in Malaysia; sadly , he is not the only one who has experienced such agony while fighting for a better Malaysia for all.

The blessings that DSAI is receiving now came after enduring a few long decades of tests & trials from Allah ﷻ upon him.
Allah says in the Qur'an,
2nd Surah (al-Baqarah), verse 155 - 157:
“And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Sabirun (the patient).
Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: “Truly! To Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.”
They are those on whom are the Salawat (i.e. who are blessed and will be forgiven) from their Lord, and (they are those who) receive His Mercy, and it is they who are the guided ones.”
May Allah ﷻ grants him great health and wisdom to lead Malaysia in many years to come.

The sodomy charges were cooked up because DSAI was mounting a challenge on Dr. Mahathir who was then the PM. DSAI had garnered very strong support of up to 70-80% from UMNO supporters.
Unfortunately, it involved money politics. End came swiftly for DSAI. That is the dirty business in politics.

There is no point to forgive and joing forces people like Mahatir. Narcissistic people are waiting for so called forgiveness to play you out again. When someone slaps you in the face on one cheek, you don't firgive them and offer them the other cheek. And Mahatir has demonstrated meanness to his country, to his protégé like yourself, and outright betrayal at every level and STILL not relenting at 96 of age.
You have to understand Anwar, the religious man. He forgives but would ensure that justice takes its course. I guess Mahathir knows that. There was so much pressure for him to accept the Big Tent, but in the end, he decided against it. Looking at the results of GE15, it was a good decision.
