Shin Sawada being a protective friend

Right from the start, the production team already made people understand that Shin and Kuma are best friends. It seemed odd given their contrasting personalities but it's how the show was made for them. It also makes people see one side of Shin that fans like. His willingness to stand up for his friends no matter what.

I think, one of the strengths of Gokusen 1 is, they were able to show Sawada's leadership qualities and how good of a friend he is. This made fans of the show invested in his character. He may be a rebellious student, but he is an ideal comrade. :)
