    I loved Kaja's comment about being weak in the video game but able to enjoy the turn nature of this. I loved fighting games such as Soul Calibur, but just mashed buttons frantically. That actually worked ok for me. In this game, I generally get my butt handed to me on a silver platter with roasted potatoes and carrots. But I'm a huge game mechanic geek, and I simply enjoy the way the various characters interact. Great review!

    I just played the base game last night for the first time. Never heard of it before, but I loved the heck out of it. Like what was said, I enjoy fighting games but never got a handle of memorizing the button combinations in order to react fast enough. And this game solves that problem amazingly well. I beat the person teaching me the game twice in a row, and then I won another 2 games against another person. I do not think I have ever done so well with a game O.O

      Just tried it today with another first timer and agree. Even though I lost both games, the games were incredibly close. I'm not even mad. Battlecon is really fun. It reminds me of the really competitive Street Fighter games I watched and all the opponent reading and strategy. The welcoming difference was that I didn't need to do hard button inputs or have an insane reaction time. I'm looking to pick this up if I can find it in stock.

    It's nice to see reviews of games that have been around for awhile. It's also nice to see a review where gender disparity addressed.

    So glad to see you review this game. It is superb and in my opinion, not enough people are talking about/playing it. Great work fitting all of that into a 9 minute review :)

    Fatality! LOL. There are several of these games out there. Which one is better to start with or are the best? Is it this one or an older one?

    En-deens (as in rhymes with "seen")? End-EYEns (rhymes with vines)?
    Tom Vasel uses the second pronunciation in his video review last year, but everybody else seems to use the first pronunciation! I'm so confused!

      We copied our pronunciation from the original Kickstarter video, which was done by the designer himself. We figured that would be the safest bet...

    what is your opinion on the Strikers expansion?

    • @sleepyazn15
      @sleepyazn15 10 років тому

      The strikers expansion helps replicate the "jump in" mechanism of the Marvel Vs. Capcom series and adds some nice new layers of strategy to the game. I personally love it. But it is not a necessary expansion. There is so much game in the base box and the upcoming stand alone games.

    I believe this game is over a year old. Perhaps being a bit more prescient would serve the viewers better. Although your overviews are some of the best on UA-cam, I have become disappointed in the lack of reviews for newer games I am looking to purchase.

      Most backers in North America received their games in late January/early Feburary of 2014. European backers and the rest of the world waited a couple months more; nevermind the product actually getting to store shelves. The game was up for pre-order a year ago, and some reviewers got review copies quite some time ago, but for people going to a brick and mortar store, it is a rather current release.

      I have seen it at one of my game stores for months now so my post about this game was based on that along with playing one or more of the sets. Unfortunately, that does not dismiss the perception that this channel is a bit late to the party on most of their reviews. Most of the other board gaming channels(including small channels) get to the hotness pretty quickly. On this channel they have not reviewed any anticipated games from Gen Con while others have gone over most of them.

      Marky St.Ruggles I understand. We've always reviewed a mix of newer and older games (many of our earlier reviews covered years-old classics, for example), and I'm sorry that we haven't been hitting as much of the "new hotness" as you'd like. Part of the challenge is our shoot schedule, which has us filming 3-4 videos at once and then releasing them over the next 1-2 months, which means that it's hard for us to be up-to-the-minute with our releases. We are planning to cover more of the year's new releases in our next shoot, and have stuck to more recent releases in this batch, but there are likely to still be gaps. If you let us know which games you're interested in seeing covered, we do always take viewer requests into account.
