Very good and interesting upload and I watched the entire hour of it.
St. Thomas More, who was a loyal and close advisor of Henry # 8, was beheaded because he was a devout and faithful Roman Catholic and he opposed # 8's decision to break with the Vatican. He was made a saint in 1935. I don't know what took the Vatican so long to give sainthood to More, but maybe you know?

Yup. It seems the more intelligent a species is... the more malevolent they're likely to be... our irony is that for a species that seems to be very self concerned with its potential downfall, we are going to be the reason for our own demise.

At the same time of ottomans, there were Safavid dynasty in Iran. Shah ismail of Safavid had cannibals in his court. political prisoner would be thrown in a room where the cannibals (raw eaters) were there and they’d bite and eat the prisoner alive.

    OH MY GOD. 😮😮😮
I have a 16th great grandfather, Henry Humphrey Harry Throckmorton Ruse 1515-1585, born. Trenute, Cornwall, England,
    Mother
Margaret Throckmorton Rowe, 1500-1565, born. Trenute, Lezant, Cornwall, England
Father: John Rose/Ruse, 1495-1544, born. Trenute, Lezant, Cornwall, England. Original source documents and DNA testing.
I've been trying to piece together my ancestry. My maiden line, Egerton, is the noble Cheshire line of knights, based at Ridley.
And I'm descended from the line Abell, which is descended from Henry IV. Damn this is getting confusing.

There were some insane practices back during the Ottoman Empire.
But, the Ottomans weren't the only ones to have engaged in such things.
Things like HONOR KILLINGS still persist in some societies today. Sad, but true.
Being Native, we've had some terrible practices in the past as well. So, I'm not going to judge the past by our current beliefs and practices.

The foot binding was absolutely incomprehensible. Yet western women in the upper classes squeezed themselves into tight deforming corsets. An ordinary corset was never uncomfortable, those who undertook no manual work laced themselves into breathlessness in whalebone and later steel corsets. Women used lead based cosmetics to give them a beautiful pale sheen to their faces, it wrinkled their skin and poisoned them. They put belladonna in their eyes to give them wide pupils, overuse turning them blind. Even my grandmother was proud of her size 3 feet. “Ladies have small feet” she was 5’2”, that’s about a 35 European. (She was pretty right up to her death at 69.) I was a 37 at 5”, “Huge! I blame your father.” It was a shame as she left behind a wardrobe of beautiful clothes and shoes. I suspect she would squeeze her feet into some high heels, as her sandals were slightly bigger. So right up to the 1950s, small feet were still admired in western society. I occasionally get remarks about my tiny feet and hands. My grandmother would be SO proud…lol. So we can’t be smug or superior about foot binding.
I still stick to the mantra with my offspring that so long as it’s not spiritually, morally or physically damaging they can seriously consider doing it.

Yea the Ottoman Empire is an interesting example but I think the way it’s highlighted would make a lot think that was some special thing the Ottomans did. It happened in China, India, Greeks, Romans, and especially the Byzantines they couldn’t seem to get enough fratricide. And that’s just the ancient empires list…..shit went on all over the world most of our history lol.
