    After years of videos, Briones lessons, his my pickleball coach app...I still glean something new every time. Getting the ball out front, but aligned near or inside the hip was not new, but that it diminishes the reaching was. Also, you both showed some lifting with the legs and a shoulder turn but didn't discuss. Thanks!!

    I can do what I call a 3rd shot driving drop to the middle very well where the ball curves downward over the net and opponents can hardly get it or very much have to hit up on it. I find the key is the timing of the contact as you address in the video. The ball is just starting to descend and you have to have good positioning. Translating that to a soft drop is a different matter due to the loose grip. I like your advice of having a target for this shot. Now it's drill, drill, drill.

    Thank you for this Jordan and Caden! I've been working on topspin. Also, along the lines of loose grip how about an instructional video on how "loose" our bodies should feel when hitting the ball? Questions: Should our shoulders feel loose which provides an arm to swing freely? Do we use body weight to swing through the ball?

    • @BrionesPickleball
      @BrionesPickleball  7 місяців тому +2

      Not a ton of forward body momentum used here. Most important thing is to be brushing and swinging up on the ball. Yes, you do want to be as relaxed as you can in your shoulders, wrist, grip etc.

    • @nadzoll
      @nadzoll 6 місяців тому

      @@BrionesPickleballI mentioned this after I saw a video from Zane where he talked about having a loose body when hitting. This resonates with me from past instruction I had studying the piano in college - strike using body weight then relax into rebound.

  • @fernandoherranz4095
    @fernandoherranz4095 7 місяців тому +3

    The challenge I think is trying to make the 3rd shot drop when your opponents are returning your serve hard and long and you need to turn that into a soft drop into their kitchen. The example of you swinging softly to return for the drop was good for the technique (and I can see what you're doing very clearly :-). But I often find those returns are tricky to get just right and into their kitchen.

    • @BrionesPickleball
      @BrionesPickleball  7 місяців тому +4

      It takes a lot of practice and is definitely a lot tougher on very tough returns. This is why lots of pros will go to a drive-drop as an option on tougher returns.

  • @yasim9435
    @yasim9435 3 місяці тому +1

    Paddles are rated for ability to generate spin. For instance Selkirk Vanguard Control is rated for 1800 RPM of spin and other models rated above 2000RPM. In your demo speed of paddle is low spin you create seems much lower the paddle capability. So what technique would fully realize paddle top spin capability.

    • @BrionesPickleball

    • @douglasmurdoch7247

      Usually deeper shots, from baseline or transition, are in eastern. And then one rotates over to continental as you get to the kitchen line.

    Should we also use a "laid back wrist" position for flat/no spin forehand drops? I figure that way we can disguise to opponents whether we will hit a flat drop or a topspin drop

    • @BrionesPickleball
      @BrionesPickleball  3 місяці тому

      Drops are so slow, I don’t think disguising is necessary. Technique is a bit different as well.

    Love the latest few videos.. really helpful, and informative - keep up the great work guys!
    ps: I'd love to see a video on how to defend against bangers at a 3>4 level. The "bangers" in our club tend to dominate the games by constantly driving from the bassline.. super frustrating! I've seen a few higher level players who are able to return these drives, either volleying them back, or completely taking the power out of the shot and dropping them just over the net.. for love nor money, I just can't seem to master it! any tips would be awesome!

  • @SailCamaraderie
    @SailCamaraderie 7 місяців тому +1

    Wonderful job as usual...and Kaden did great too! One question...WHY aim at the feet? It seems to me that you're inviting someone with a 3 ft+ reach to take it out of the air rather than force them to deal with the bounce which after all is the main advantage right? Why not treat it like a normal drop target...closer to the net or forcing movement (backhand side) to gain advantage? Do you guys use this off your backhand as well or just use standard or slice drops?

    • @BrionesPickleball
      @BrionesPickleball  7 місяців тому

      We’ll be coming out with a two handed drop video soon. For drops in general, most high level players aim at the feet. The NVZ line is a good target to go for when hitting your drops.

  • @dancupryk9661
    @dancupryk9661 7 місяців тому

    For generating top-spin, can you elaborate on the difference between hitting up on the ball and brushing the ball? For example, do you merely have to hit up on the ball, out front, and with an eastern grip to automatically generate top-spin or is there a specific brushing motion/mechanic needed?

    • @BrionesPickleball
      @BrionesPickleball  7 місяців тому

      We will do more on this. In general, “brushing” and hitting up on the ball go hand in hand. To create topspin, you have to hit up on the ball.

    • @MichelleH45
      @MichelleH45 2 години тому

      @@MikeC-qr9ot- a drop shot is a shot you use as the serving team to drop the ball into the kitchen so that you and your partner can get up to the kitchen line. It is called the third shot drop because it is literally the third shot of the game. First shot is the serve, the second shot is the return, then you have the third shot - which you can drive or you can drop (or lob, but not the best option in IMHO).

      @SDPBALLCOACH this is very poor analogy. Why in the world would you put topspin on a tennis drop shot? So your opponent can hit a winner? That world make the ball bounce up. They do use this technique in doubles though to hit down at the net persons feet.
      It's not a hard shot. In fact, it can be easier to control the ball.
