- This is a special one. Much of this footage is outtakes from D.A. Pennebaker's "Don't Look Back" (you can tell which scenes are the unreleased, unrestored ones). It's fantastic to see Dylan and his posse in Seattle, Washington, where he performed at The Arena one night prior, ready to board a Trans World Royal Ambassador Flight (the most luxurious public flight in its day) to London, England. We even get to see a brief snippet of footage taken on the plane itself (1:43).
Once there, Bob is mobbed by crowds of fans, but they manage to get him into a conference room at the airport, where journalists try to get something out of him. As always, he just plays with them. However, his famous quote, "Keep a good head and always carry a lightbulb" is born here. Enjoy this gem while you can!
"you ever heard of Donovan"
"no"
Donovan what?
He looks exactly like he did in the We Are the World video when he's holding the headphones on his ears.
Two notable quotes: “the Beatles are never going to be on the way out,” (how right he was) and “Donavan what?”
It's finally happening today. Even Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin are being forgotten. The new generation is by and large non white and only interested in rap, edm, and hip hop
@@MrBooYa-yd5er yeahhh no they’re not
@@mariia099 hope so.
@@MrBooYa-yd5er this isn’t true lol
@@MrBooYa-yd5er they're not on the way out lol. the Beatles have a pretty massive young fan base especially on the internet.
For someone born long after this time it's so shocking to see how big he was and in some ways still is today.
In which ways he is nót as big, today?
Recently deponed a grand new double Album
Returned to the Radio.. and what is still to come I mean...
Swingin Pig king of the rarities! God I love this outtake. He has the most distinctive way of speaking. Instantly recognizable!
Release a DVD box with this material?
This was before Highway 61 was released and he was already bigger than his peers.
I actually had never seen a "Beatlemania" type Day for Dylan..no wonder he shut it all down.
Remembering the great D.A. Pennebaker , died on 01/08/2019 in NY : Don't Look Back '65 , Eat the Document '66 and DVD '65 Revisitied , a one hour docufilm accompaying the new release of DLB in 2007 (DYLAN) ; Ziggy Stardust '73 (BOWIE) ; Sweet Toronto '71 (Plastic Ono Band) ; Alice Cooper ; Monterey Pop '68 ; Keep on Rocking '69 (Little Richard) ; Jimi Plays Monterey '86 ; Woodstock Diary '94 ; Kings of Pastry '09 ... and another 15 more . In 2012 Academy Awards gave him an Honorific Oscar .
Absolutely. And - it's an obscurity, but it at least used to be on UA-cam - Pennebaker's 1981 documentary on John Delorean and the Delorean car is fascinating, and contains a lot of the same cinema verite tricks and methods used in Don't Look Back.
Thanks😎I enjoyed this especially footage I have never seen before!
Amazing footage of Dylan's second trip to the UK - interesting to compare with the Beatles' arrival in NY in Feb. '64. Albeit the throng at the airport here was tiny by comparison, the Kerouac-inspired 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' was in the top ten and the vibe is electric.
Keep a good head and always carry a lightbulb.
Joan Baez gave bob that light bulb
The sun's not yellow it's chicken!
I love Dylan’s mischievous sense of humour.
Oh Bob, you’re a great entertainer too,. Easy for my eyes and witty.. ‘Donovan who?’ Bob owns the stage, he owns the world!
Love 💗 LOVE 💗 Love 💕
❤❤❤❤ Thank you!! ❤❤❤❤
Wow, there is Joan Baez with him. She is so beautiful 😍
Raf LM i like how she is so socially secure and seemingly confident whereas the other boys (including Dylan) are so tense
@@peterburlin8198 Who's the other lady with Joan?
Can you imagine sitting through countless interviews and getting asked stupid questions like, "What is your real message?" over and over?
Rofl the shit with the lightbulb that was sitting there before he even fucking walked in
really great post thanks Swingin'Pig ♥♥♥
This is from Don't Look Back.
"I usually carry a light bulb"
LOL
20 days after this I got hit by a car. Right ankle lucky to survive. Car didn’t break. My ankle did in pieces. My mum said it was good he didn’t break as he would’ve crushed my leg. Some miraculous young doctor saved it. Can’t believe there was still snow April Heathrow.
Swingin' Pig, Could you upload the outtakes of "I want you" if it's in the cutting edge or somewhere else, Could you?
Thanks for this upload I’ve never seen the first part! Do you happen to have the cover of tracks of my tears by Bob from the rolling thunder revue set?
I have that pig sticker( bottom right) on a Beatles Bootleg from late sixties..
Poor Joan.
“who? donovan what?” hahah
Bob is very very special, because he is just a man
Ordinary genial man
Thanks again, Mr. Pig. Do you know what recording session that is with the clarinet and vibraharp playing in the background?
2:47 and 2:55 Why are these girls screaming like Beatlemaniacs??
Famous interview.
4:30 acrylic finger nails? I always hear how our nails could never hold up to constant playing. Think he has a little bit of help there?
Check out his finger nails in the film test he did for warhol
yeah bob
2:35 Dylan in one quote
Was he dating Joan at this Time? This was before he went electric and did she accompany him to England? My understanding is that he didn't want her on this trip but she tried to surprise him out there? Is this correct? And when did he hook up with Sara? Wasn't it also around this time where he was also romantically involved with Edie?
Maybe he was dating joan, but he had already asked Sara to marry him. The video is of him arriving in England. So yes joan did travel with him, but she never played on stage with him. Joan found out about Sara near the end of May, when Sara opened the hotel door to him. As for Eddie, we're they really romantically involved I've yet to see any evidence.
Did D.A. Pennebaker ever work out that you hold a camera with your hands and not your feet?
I think these were new cameras especially made for this film. It's was all new technology, and very experimental. Its probably the first day of use in this video.
master of pr
This is during the time frame that Bob was supposedly at the Chelsea Hotel sexually abusing an underage girl. The claim states that he exploited his status over a month and a half (April ~ May '65) to gain her trust, drug, and abuse her. It appears that he's got a decent alleby though, he was touring extensively during this window and as seen in the video, spent time touring in England as well. Sadly, and hopefully, it appears that this woman is lying in an attempt to steal a portion of Dylan's earnings but we shall see. I'll be keeping posted because his music has played a big role in my life and something like this will definitely affect the meaning that it has to me if this claim were true (and I know I'd be one of many).
Thanks for your comment! Good to finally read something so similar to the thoughts that have been running through my head within the last days.
Hopefully we shall see...But, I fear that this might end in a kind of 'limbo' as it has been such a long time ago and finding out the truth might be really hard. And in the end, we might never know for sure...
At the moment, I'm still trying to wrap my head around it all. I simply can't align the picture I have of Bob in my mind and my heart with such deeds.
Like for you, the meaning of his songs would also change for me if the accusations were true. Then, a big part of my musical identity (hope you understand what mean) would be lost.
@@bollykecks I can't wrap my head around it either. I associate behavior like this with someone who needs to dominate someone but he's never seemed to have much of a domineering personality. In fact, he seems to prefer being left alone, even way back in the '60's. But one thing's for certain, our perception of his personality is by no means any kind of proof to support him in this claim against him. And yes, I can relate to the musical identity. When I was young, I thought I had discovered something that noone had heard before and it became a soundtrack to my life, then I saw him in concert and discovered that I wasn't so unique. Picked myself up though and continued listening all the way 'till now, 20 years later.
@@gdevo6611 Thanks for your additional thoughts, I really appreciate this exchange.
Yes, I agree with you on the perception of personalities . Whom does one know completely after all? Definitely not someone of whom one only knows what is shown to the public.
With regard to the origins of my 'musical identity' I have to thank my parents, I guess. They started me on the (late) 50s and 60s stuff. I saw Bob in concert with them in 2001 and 2002 when I was 19 years old. Also went to see The Rolling Stones twice with them.
In my school yearbook, I was mentioned as 'the girl with the weird taste in music'... But at least, there was this one guy in my class who liked AC/DC and KISS (he thought, I was a kindred spirit when he saw me wearing my Bob Dylan shirt one day, I guess). We talked from time to time about our favourite singers/songs and agreed that contemporary music was (already) in a very sorry state then (late 90s/early 00s). Good times, lol.
Considering Dylan could have pretty much any woman he wanted, I strongly doubt he needed to abuse an underage girl.
It all just happened to him. Never wanted it! It's a media world now and that Bullitt doesn't wash. Love you though!
Think the Beatles are genius!
Donavin' what? haha
So Dylan was there too in 63. Was then coming back from going to Italy to try to find Rotolo? The Boots of Spanish Leather. Now don’t get me started on Baez in that airport clip. There’s about as much chemistry between Dylan n her there than there is between me and Justin fucking Trudeau. Except it was necessary to produce the great documentary for me to see, Dylan probably should’ve turned back as soon as Baez was up ahead and not boarded. And let them go alone and gone back to talk to the nice smiley lady and asked her out for dinner.
Bobby: Did you ever once think how amazing it was that The Lord God did a total restoration and renewal of your Genuis mind, and healed your body and kept you alive to the age that you are now, and was there with you purging chemicals out of your body, staying with you in all of your pain and suffering and sustaining your life? Miracles happen. You still had that little spark in you from your childhood when someone taught you about The Lord. On the other hand, my ex husband didn't because his parents never mentioned God, not even about how an Irish American Guy saved a German Jewish Woman and took her to America. They never mentioned that God was in it. Furthermore, my ex once brought home a book one day and started reading it in bed. I didn't know what it was until I asked him what he was reading, and he told me it was Satan's Bible, the opposite. I yelled at him and took it outside to the trash. He told me his friends gave it to him and that they went and sat in the graveyard reading it. Actually, I think he probably never purged that from his own brain. Anyway, I feel you want me to say something about the other lifestyle. Well, I don't judge it because it's not my place to. That's a personal thing between yourself and your maker. Personally, it's not for me, and I never had it in my mind. My mom had three girls, so she explained everything, but that doesn't mean that she did it. She told us about things like manajutwa. I'm not interested in that. It's not my business to meddle into whatever you do. The Lord taught me how to forgive everyone. It's not so easy to do, but when you learn how to, it sets yourself more free than the other people even. 💞
