    This is my first time watching any of your videos and I thought it was great. I got a Bachelor's in Anthropology in 1990 with a promise from my wife that when we retire I can go back and get my PhD. It's getting close and I want to get a PhD in Archeology. I have tried to stay somewhat aware of the field but now I'm starting to get very serious and this book list will be a great start for me.

    You inspire me SO much Raven. My archaeology 101 professor had us watch a lot of your videos during the class (especially your plague videos, since I took the class last spring you can imagine why those were the ones my professor chose). Thank you for the book list!

    WHAT!?! Nothing from the supreme archaeologist Erich Von Daniken? Just kidding. I've been somewhat interested in the Mississippian Tradition because I live at the western edge of it.

    Greetings from Australia! I can recommend A Record in Stone by Simon Holdaway and Nicola Stern. This is THE book on Indigenous Australian stone tools but also the study of stone tools generally.

    Thank you for making this, been waiting for something like it. My reading backlog just got significantly bigger for the holidays. I recently finished Paul Bahn's 'Archaeology: A Very Short Introduction" and it really is pretty short, but super sweet as an intro for students and armchair peeps alike, with methods/techniques, concepts and other notable stuff discussed in a 'casual' way.

    Thank You Raven!! What a wonderful list of Great books!! I was fortunate to work for a gentleman from Bowmanville, in the mid 80's, and got to visit Toronto off and on for three plus years. What a beautiful city and, of course, what a fantastic view, on your side of the border, of Niagara Falls!! They were building the baseball stadium during my visits ( I'm dating myself.) I can see why you talk so wonderfully about it!!! Can't wait to read some of the books!!!

    Definitely great choices for a Top 10 list. I've read several of them during my own undergrad archaeology coursework. I would also include Keith Muckelroy's Maritime Archaeology as a good foundational book if I were doing my own Top 10 list. Thanks Raven!

    Excellent book recommendations and reviews! For underwater archaeology we'd highly recommend "Submerged History: Underwater Archaeology in Florida" by Smith, and if you like pirates you should check out "X Marks the Spot: The Archaeology of Piracy" and/or "Pieces of Eight: More Archaeology of Piracy" by Ewen and Skowronek. They are all great for both the public and academics.

    Great List of books!!!! Already had the one by Brian Fagan and still need to get around to reading it. For a book book recommendation I would recommend Napoleon's pyramids by William Dietrich. It is a historical fiction book that is set during Napoleons campaign in Egypt and deals with the main character trying to solve they mystery of the pyramids. Still I was surprised about some of the things that were mentioned in this book even though other parts of the book were nonsense, but fun.

    I am just wondering why you hadn't considered adding Kathleen Kenyon to the list? Was she a little dated? I would have thought her excavations at Jericho and being considered the first lady of archeology would have put her near the top of the list, just for fun reading at the least.

    Regarding books about the study of humans and all facets of human activity, no library can be complete without the papers and diaries of Josiah Flintabbattey Flonatin. Some of the writings of Marcus Brody would indeed be an intriguing read...but the ONE essential book I am waiting for with bated (as opposed to "baited" breath) is the epic tome YET to be written by one Raven Todd Da Silva. THAT would be MY favorite. Actually...she needs to write MORE than one book. Just saying.

    • @DigItWithRaven
      @DigItWithRaven  3 роки тому +1

      I would DEFINITELY read a Marcus Brody book! It would be on the top of my list for sure haha. Oh boy.... will I ever write a book? The pressure!! Stay tuned ;)

    Where's my notification squad at?! Good to hear from you again Raven! This was a great video. I'm curious, however, as to if we'll be lucky enough to perhaps get another film reaction from you and Jude before the end of the year or perhaps sometime in the near future? Hope all is well.

I don't know if this is plausible for your channel, but as I said in another comment, I'd kill to see your reactions to Forrest Gump. By the way, I hope that I am writing/spelling Jude's name right. I've seen Judtya or some other variations on other comments elsewhere, so I'm curious. I think she'd be good with a channel too if she were to have one.
