I agree Sir Gary Sobers was the best all rounder of his era. However, I believe Kallis is the best all rounder of the modern generation and it is pointless to compare Kalis with Sir Gary Sobers because the type of cricket played in 60's is totally different than the one played in the modern era. I have respect for both of them I just feel like Kalis always gets the short end of the stick when it comes to the title of best all rounder as people just say Sir Gary Sobers and the debates ends right there.

not true. Where i grew up we had uncovered wickets and what us to happen was the bounce was very in consistent but the pace was quick. I am talking about those skiddy clay wickets. so we learned not to play back but also not to shove the front foot down the track. that is what they use to do and a player is a products of the environment. nowadays they would not score as many runs but not because of their technique but the bowlers being smarter and have more variety as well. + fielding is better
It is quite obvious from video footage of the 30 s and 40s that the standard of cricket was barely above village cricket level . Could you imagine alan border , sunil gavaskar , ian botham , ie former stars now in their 40s and 50s still playing and dominating first class cricket . I dont think so.
