- My two older daughters started flying with me at the age of four. The twins seemed to want to take their time and wait until they were really ready. The thing about the Cub is, it's a vintage aircraft, it's loud, it's drafty, you can't see much, and it's tandem seating, so it is a bit more intimidating than, say, a 172. What makes the Cub intimidating to a child is also what makes it so magical when they first get up. The smiles and pure joy on my girls' faces are priceless. This is what makes flying in your personal aircraft with your kids so much fun. It's general aviation at it's best. They literally reach out and touch the sky and are able to experience flight in one of the purest forms, in a vintage taildragger. The hope is that all four of my daughters learn to fly, but at this stage, I just want to introduce it to them and get them comfortable with flying with me.

When this little princess grows up and has children, she will show her children how she spent an incredibly beautiful time with their grandfather with this video. What a great memory.
I totally agree. She absorbs flight as a natural phenomenon, just one more remarkable thing humans can do.
I never had such luck but I loved aviation as long as I knew it and enjoyed being a pilot more than almost anything.
Wasn’t blessed with kids but as an international airline pilot and an occasional glider pilot, videos like this put a smile on my face..
congrats.. she’ll always cherish that day!
❤️ ❤️
Thank you!
“Best day ever”!!! What a special daddy daughter moment!! Thanks for sharing this special video Joe!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
This is how children should be raised. That is one fearless human in the making.
Retired pilot here, I remember my Dad and I flying our J-3 together on Sunday mornings, best days of my life!
Hopefully my girls look back and think the same
@@Bananasssssssss I’m sure they will! Our Sunday morning breakfast at the air park was our tradition and later my wife enjoyed that tradition with us. Beautify Cub by the way, mine needs a total rebuild, my retirement project!
THIS ❤️ is what it's all about! I was actually crying tears of joy as I watched this video. It brought back memories of my grandfather and his love of aviation... a passion I share with him and his memory ❤️. Sadly, I never got to fly in his J-3 Cub. A terrible thunderstorm struck 8A6 Wilgrove Airpark while he was out of town on business, and many airplanes were destroyed by the extreme winds. His was one of them. Watching your sweet flight with your daughter made me think of what could've been for my grandfather and me once. 😊 Thank you so much, Joe, for creating and sharing this special video. You and your family will always cherish this beautiful day. May God bless you always 🙏 ❤️
Thanks Glenn!
Me to! I used to fly with my gramps in his Aeronca. Now I fly it. After I got signed off to fly it (insurance checkout) I had to gather my composure before my 1st solo.
My goodness, I loved every second of that, she is sooo cute and sweet, great job dad in explaining and nurturing her first flight, due to poor health I no longer fly, enjoy every flight as your last.
Me too. Tears of joy in remembrance! Oh to be young again!
It's wonderful that an 83-year-old plane can give so much joy to a young child. The result of an excellently designed and very well piloted machine.
I used to take my daughter flying at that age. She's now 25 and a licensed pilot herself. In my family she is the 4th generation to become a pilot, but she is the first girl to get her license. These are priceless memories to have with our kids, thanks for sharing yours with the rest of us.
Videos of the joy of a child are the best thing to find on UA-cam. Thank you very much.
Thank you!
Flying with her dad will be a memory that will stay with her forever!
I hope so!
Y cuando sea abuela loa nietos le preguntarán ¿Hiciste éso en éso? ❤😊
😮It'll also stay with her Dad forever. I have those memories with my oldest daughter who will be 54 this year.
She's a natural! Won't be long til she's got you sitting in the front seat Joe. Brilliant stuff...
I hope so!!
Yea I can see that 🙂
You had me after pancakes. Pure gold. Brought back lots of great memories flying with my mom and dad just a bit older than Amilia. We all need to take notes on her pure joy of just running around in a circle on the grass.
Really seems to be the simple things they enjoy the most.
@@BananasssssssssIsn’t that the truth! You can buy them a toy or something and they’ll ignore the toy and make a fort out of the box the toy came in, and move into it! I😂
4 years ago, I took my youngest grandson Mike up in my RV6 for his first flight ever. The noise he made when I built speed and did a pull-up at the end of the runway made my 20 year build effort totally worthwhile!
This is the best thing I've ever seen on UA-cam. Dad took me up in his Taylorcraft when I was about that age. I will never forget that ride. Neither will she.
Amazing Dad Award! She will never top that nor forget it!
This is precious. What a great Daddy Daughter moment.
Thank you! She keeps asking me to go flying again, huge success!
A moment to treasure forever. Daddy's and their little girls have a special bond and it's so cool to give them experiences like this. 🥰
What a great dad! And might I say, that is one of the sweetest looking J-3 Cubs I have ever seen. You are one very blessed man!
Wow, thank you!
Whe she said "The Best Day Ever" my heart melted, bless her ♥️
The way she touched her dad's face. Beautiful.
Have 2 boys about her age. Actually made me tear up a little when she said 'best day ever'. That's literally my favorite thing to hear. Good on you dad!
My dad was a flyer in WWII. When I was about 3 (1953) my dad took me flying in a J 3 Cub much like yours. What a thrill. It changed my life. Thanks for the video and the memory. Your daughters will remember this forever. Beautiful, just Beautiful!
Thanks for watching
I can't tell you the emotions that this brings back to me.
The only thing better than every kid having a father...
is every kid having a good father!
I've never watched a video of yours. I don't have a daughter.
This video makes me smile and feel filled with joy.
What a wonderful way to preserve and cherish your memories...
Thank you! Sincerely appreciate that!
I remember the first time I flew with my dad in our J-3 Cub.. I was 5 in 1949; we flew out of Hawthorne Municipal where had built his first hanger and machine shop. The Cub is still flying today out of El Monte Airport. I don’t remember how long we flew but I was hooked and continued to fly with him until he died in 1963 when I was 19. I never got my license or never went up in another private plane.
The many hours I spent with him in our various planes and doing many hours with my hands and feet on the controls is and will be always the greatest time I ever spent with him.
She’ll never forget this day !! ❤❤
Well done Joe! That’s definitely what life’s all about!
This was so precious my teeth fell out!
My favorite memories are flying with my Dad and flying with my son. I wish those 2 could have flown together. That would have been perfection
Just the simple fact that you get to do this with your daughter is amazing! I have 3 and have nothing this close. Great work dad!
'this is the best day ever'!!!!
"Are we flying now?" - love it from I'm scared to best day ever , this is fun
- brings back memories of flying with my father when I was a kid.
I remember the first time he made a bank turn. I looked down out the window and was scared. So I leaned way over against my dad. He said, "Are you scared?" -
unlike this precious, honest girl who said she was scared,
I said , "No, I just wanted to see out your window".
I think I was 5 years old.
I can't believe this little girl is a spitting image of my daughter Samantha when she was 3......it felt like a lump in my throat to see this beautiful family....Samantha, she is 50 now...
I got so emotional with this one. I was around her age when my father being a duster pilot gave me my first ride, it was awesome. As a result I am a pilot now, flied many B737 (400-700-800-900er-max) and finally B777 and B787 with 15k hours logged in.
I remember a little brown eyed, curly haired girl I took flying 25 years ago. An old Piper Cherokee 140 (1965) in the summer from a grass strip. We flew to Tulsa for snow cones at the airport snack shack.
I may not word this right so bare with me. The thing I love about this is your setting the foundation for her on how her future man should treat her with respect, caring, concern and love. THAT is a true FATHERs job, hats off to you my man.....
Best wishes for you all and safe flying.
Thank you for this Patrick, it's sincerely appreciated.
Patrick, thank you for saying that. It was the first thing that came to my mind when the video started. Dad has made quite an impression on his daughter in her formative years. God bless you all.🙏
@@gwenjones8 Thx, I just had to, I just feel a lot of parents now a days don't realize just how much kids unconditionally trust and respect their parents, I felt Joe was not taking advantage of that and he was continuing to ensure her she could trust him, he knows the dangers, her not so much. Hopefully she will continue to look for these qualities in people she meets in her life. I'm rambling now so I'll zip it. Peace to all.
@@Patrick42567 👍🙂
it's hard to get any better than this, best family memories are the small one.
Absolutely
Super fun to watch. Good job Amelia😊
Brings back lots of memories. Dad sat me on a boat cushion so I could see over the dash...8yrs old. I later soloed in our Cub, rebuilt it as an A&P.
I lost several hats in that cockpit!
This is exactly how I was introduced to Flying my dad had a cub 1947 I think. I know it had a Franklin engine. I was about the same age as this little girl.
I sat in the front seat couldn't see anything out the front windshield had to look out the sides my dad was 6 ft 5 so i had his long legs next to me.
I earned my pilot's license at 18 years old and ended up becoming a commercial pilot.
I still remember taking my dad up few months before I had my license shortly before he died. I still don't regret bending the rules. No radio, no lights, no Electric System, a simpler time.
This Cub came with a Franklin originally from the factory.
Two things that I remember was the fuel indicator. A bent wire that came out of the fuel cap on top of the engine cowling. When flying with the doors open. Your stall warning indicator was the lower door raising up as you were approaching a stall.
That's awesome. My favorite thing to do is take kids flying. The nervous ones are always smiles when we lift off. The amount of responsibility is equal to the joy of sharing GA.
This is adorable a real father and daughter moment.
Thank you!!
@Bananasssssssss it reminded me of the times with my daughter I spent every minute I could with her.
Cherish every moment because before you know it their a young woman. My daughter now is a midwife and she love me to bits and often reflects on our time together.
Would change a thing.
Have a lovely life.

@@Bananasssssssss ❤️
Just over-the-top darling! A bright yellow Piper Cub, a beautiful warm day and a cute little gal as your passenger- just doesn't get any better than that!
Agreed! Days like this really are
The ones I’ll remember forever
So lovely to see. Good job dad. You're doing it right.
Thank you for showing your daughter the gift of flight. She seemed very much at ease with her daddy at the controls. God Bless and visibility unlimited to your family .
You've just made an avid pilot.... she will never forget this day.....
I Hope!
That was fantastic. The beautiful little girl will have great memories and fun watching it when she is older. Well done Dad.
Priceless !
Thanks for sharing this special moment !
You bet!
Wonderful day and thank you for sharing it with this old pilot.
That was awesome! She won't ever forget that experience, what a good father you are and she is a great kid too!
These memories are more precious than gold.
I Remember my First Airplane Ride in my Dads Plane way Back in 1972..He is Gone now but I Can Still Remember that day like it was yesterday
To be young when so much is still magical.
I watched your video with watery eyes . . . brought back memories when I flew my '47 J3 from Indiana to Reno, back in the early 70's. The 18 wheeler's were usually going faster . . . Bob
Aww too adorable she's hooked already won't be long and she'll be flying her own plane right next to yours 🤘😎❤️
What a great Dad. Your daughters will alway remember your Love!
Thank you!
Reminded me of the first time I took my son flying on the Cub. Great stuff and something you will both remember forever. Thx.
Her excitement and smiles good dad
What an great experience for both of you! Love that beautiful Cub, my favorite!
Cool - so cool - for her first flight! With Aloha...
Thank you. My best memories are flying with my dad in a J3 Cub…blue with, of all things, leopard interior. He also owned a 172 Cessna. Plenty of hours in both.
Best day ever....🥲
Everything about this video = video of the year.
Thank you!
I couldn't do things like this with my daughter because of her mom. I did some things that today made me feel grateful that I did them with her. she can tell people that she had breakfast at the top of the world trade center, and walked around the top deck. This was so awesome to watch.
My first aviation memory was information with my Dad’s 210. I was with my mom in her bonanza. My sisters was screaming for her mommy and remained just terrified. Meanwhile my mom was flopping the controls over to my side so I could see how the controls worked. I had to stand on the see]at to see outside. We flew up to Myrtle Beach to stay at a nice hotel on the beach.
My granddad taught my mother in 37. My dad learned in a hurry to fly B17’s in 42.
This month, I’ve had my license for 51 years. Flight kinda sticks to your ribs and you can’t stop.
This lassie’s pink heads are so cute.
What a lucky girl. Flying a G3 cub is pure flying. I wish I had one.
Probably, no absolutely the best video I have seen on UA-cam! Precious memories you and your daughter will have for a lifetime.
THANK YOU!
Dad of the year award . Great video
Thank you!
Always good to see the excitement on a child's face.
I hope she shares your joy of flying for the rest 0f her life.
Awesome!!! That time you and your little Amelia spent in the Cub was priceless👍🏼
I Absolutely Loved ❤️ this video I couldn’t stop crying your Daughter will never forget this moment thank you so much for sharing your special time with your Daughter and with all of us 👏🏽
Thank you!
Smiling so much it hurts! 🥰
Exactly, how a J3 should be used! LOL. The plane that will bring a smile to everyone's face! She'll be landing by next year.
Great video ! The Cub J3 I took my lessons in didn't have a throttle like that. It was an old fashioned window sash lock ! 1964.
@@2pugman You sure it was a J3? Pretty sure they all have always had that exact throttle locations and type. There are several 'similar' planes. I've been in many J3's. All are identical. Been around planes for 30 years. Anyway. The important thing is, you had a chance to fly! It's one of the most magical experiences in life!
I did not see the fuel float. Ours had a cork fuel float sitting on tundra tires
That's awesome! I'm so glad you can do that with your daughters.
Best day for your daughter ever! I bet she will love flying for life now. Great job Joe (Dad)!
Thank you!
One brave little girl , Daddy👍
What a great Dad.....she'll never forget it! I know you won't either!
What a beautiful moment to share with your daughter, loved it her face is a picture . Thank you for sharing god bless you both.
Thank you!
Priceless moment.
I only got to fly in a J3 Cub once. I flew with my youngest daughter in an Apache. She went on to work for the airlines.
Awesome father bro. Lots of respect. This is definitely something you two will always remember.
Thank you! Much appreciated
Nice and sweet !! Indeed a magical moment for you and Amelia, something as you know is irreplaceable.
It is nice to see dads doing stuff like this with their kids, ! I believe I even saw the Cub smiling !!!!
Thanks for the nice video !
Beautiful … good job Dad 👍🏻
They grow up way too fast.
Memories forever
Best video ever makes me miss my Dad a little. Put a smile on my face THANK YOU
blue skies and grass strips forever.
Thank you! I appreciate. Glad I could put a smile on your face
Good job! I took my daughter with me flying when she was 5. We went to Lancaster airport for afternoon tea. She had a good time too.
Those giggles make my heart melt.
This brought tears to my eyes. What a lucky, LUCKY little girl ! That WONDERFUL first time flying experience, but ALSO having a SUPERB father like YOU, sir. Man, you are AWESOME for giving her such a wonderful experience of up into the blue, but also in TRUST in her DAD. Way too many kids do not get that trust, so it becomes hard to recognise a GOOD man when they're older. You, sir, give her SUCH a priceless GIFT ! TOTAL respect to you sir !
my heart is so warmed by you and your daughter...and my face happily hurts from smiling all the way through your beautiful flight with her.... Blessings for you and your family... oh and your Piper too....
What a lovely video! This is what life is all about.....Great Dad and his beautiful daughter enjoying such an amazing experience together.. Thanks for sharing this precious moment.
Thank you! Much appreciated!!
This is so sentimental to me on so many levels because growing up my dad always flew cub model airplanes! We actually have a cub wind thingy on our back porch we call Marty because my dad‘s favorite plane has always been a Cub
I took my son my flying for the first time when he was 4. It was one of the greatest days of my life. Flying with your young child for the first time, especially in a J3 Cub with the windows open, is the closest thing to Heaven on Earth.
wholeheartedly agree!
How inspiring , thankyou for sharing. Now in my mid 70's i might just start flying again.
Go for it!
She’s a lucky girl,with dad free as a bird😊with love from Italy
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing this special experience! This is what it’s all about right here.
I’m nominating you to the internets for dad of the year for this, and your wife for mom of the year for being onboard with all this aviation goodness 🏆! Appreciate all of your REAL content, we all love it! 💛
Wow, thank you! much appreciated. Wife is definitely an angel for putting up with my Aviation mistress, lol
What a precious memory! Thanks for sharing!!
