On behalf of all the newbies out there, Thank you! I tried to figure this out for over a year. Not just the mixing, but the medium. I was so confused I ended up using a mixture of everything and that was disaster. I upped the quality of paint, cut out everything but the floetrol and a little H2O and now I’m doing better, not great, but better.
Thank you so much for talking about consistency of paints and demonstrating the difference between brands. This is been a problem that I’ve had in the past and now I understand why the brand of paint is just as important as what you mix with it. I didn’t get it for a while. You are really a thorough teacher .
Thanks for sharing this! I was going to ask you what your feelings were on pre-mixing your paints and you answered it here! I use 8 oz condiment bottles to store my prepared paints and so far, I love it. I mean... stirring paint is relaxing, maybe... but when I have a little bit of time to create, I don’t want to spend it mixing my paint.... I want to spend it POURING my paint. Thanks for being so willing to share your time, your talents and your experience. Blessings on you!
This is a great tutorial on mixing paint. It has been so confusing but this is very understandable. The lines on the cups were very helpful. Thank you for doing this
Thank you, thank you, thank you, I am so glad I found your informative tutorial, I have been intimidated by the mixing what with what, I hear about glue and Minwax, but thank you for doing this, I really appreciate the work you guys put into your craft.
Thank you for such a great explanation of mixing paints! I just did my first paint pour a few days ago but I used pre-mixed paints. I have Floetrol and lots of other pretty colors but I have just been a little intimidated to try mixing my own. Your explanation is really helpful so I'm going to try mixing my own now and see if I can get it right :-)
Great guide for mixing paint! 👏👏 I much prefer the approximate approach! ❤ I need to try to sign up again for the free class. I think I used the wrong password!! 🙀
Beautiful flip cup with such beautiful colours! Most of the artists that I am subscribed to are from the USA and as I'm from Australia, I was wondering if there is a difference in consistency between American and Australian Floetrol or if it's pretty much the same? 🤷♀️ It's only been in the last 8mths that I learned there was a difference at all. Thanks for not getting too much into the maths, as maths has always hurt my head 😄 Loved seeing the Masse guys special for you today! Stay well and happy Marcy. 😃💜🐨🥰🤗🙋♀️
Thanks for the easy explanation. When you mix in bottles to store, do you mix right in the bottle or in a cup then pour into the bottle? I want to prepare them and let them sit. Thank you!
Just watched this. I've tried different mediums, some not too successful. I'll have to get floetrol. Also, I've visited your site on the internet and would like to know if you post to Australia. I love the pre mixed colours you have. At the moment I'm on a strict budget as we just spent over 8 grand in vet bills but hopefully soon things will ease a bit
For the back of your canvas, do you tape it off, or do you paint the back if paint gets on the back? This is a question I have been stumbling over during my pours. Thanks for sharing this and your response when you have the time.
I always tape my canvases. It really pays off to have a nice clean look on the back. Also, it helps when drips accumulate such as paint, varnish, or resin because when you remove the tape, you also remove all of that junky stuff.
Hi so I can't get flood floetrol in the UK so we have owatrol and is thinner in consistency so I have pebeo or arteza paints so what would the ratio be for using condiment bottles please?
Thanks! I’d like to mix in bottles and leave the cups just for the pours... to limit the waste. I’ve been watching your videos for a couple years now, and finally started pouring last Spring! It is addictive!
This is SUPER helpfull!! Is thier anything you can add if you have made your mix to thin and you have no idea what paint you used when you mixed it up so you really can't just add more paint?
Marcy, you said that you use that ratio most of the time. My question is, do you use the same ratio/consistency even for three-ring pours? Thank you Marcy!
I have a second question (sorry). Pink followed by green. I thought I wasn't supposed to do that because they would cause brown, but that didn't happen. What did I miss?
Hi Marcy! Thank you for this video and your free class. I learned a lot from you and I’m hoping to eventually take your other classes. I have a quick question for you or anyone else that can answer it. Can I use pouring medium instead of water? Thanks in advance for answering my question! Side note: I got your shipment of the paintings I purchased and they were more beautiful than when I saw them on screen. You’re an amazing artist! Thank you for sharing your techniques and skills!
Hi! One thing I think I’m having trouble with is I can get paints to flow off the stick that look about the same consistency but when you watch it in the cup it can either create a little mound or completely disappear right back into the cup. I’m definitely having trouble getting my paintings to come out right and I’m wondering if this could be a factor as to which of those two you more want , even though they both look the same coming off the stick. Might anyone shed some light with their experience please?!
I'm not sure how to answer that unfortunately. I've never really paid attention to that. What trouble are you having with your pours that you think it might be a consistency issue? Maybe I can help with that :) In other news... "yeah there was a cornflake girl...." lol
For me, I like the consistency to be a blop/mound that goes flat before I count to 2 (aprox 1 second) much longer than that and it's too think and prone to crazing. If it doesn't mound ta all it is prone to getting muddy... hope that helps as well...
@@MixedMediaGirl hey my fellow cornflake ;-) well honestly its like what problems arent i having! But i think the biggest thing is waviness which im not a fan of. Too 1970’s looking for me i guess lol.
I tried to see your free intro and I didn't find a place to register for the first time. SO I just put in my name and a password hoping it would pop up where to do a first time log in. Now all I ever get is a message saying I am not registered. How can I fix this?
Excuse me , here's some constructive criticism, please relocate your camera , all that can be seen is the back of your forearm while mixing paint. Very frustrating
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL LIGHT COLORS. I LOVE THIS, FROM GEORGIA ❤❤❤😊😊😊
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! I was looking for this explanation!!!❤️❤️❤️🙏

Thanks for the video. I had to switch to glue all for a bit. Couldn't get any flotrol. The glue messed me up. This video helped...Thanks😁👍

I've found that I have to mix my paint thinner to avoid cracking. Maybe because I'm in a very dry climate. ?

Do you have a video on how you go from paint in store bottle to how you mix to having in squeeze bottles?
For the back of your canvas, do you tape it off, or do you paint the back if paint gets on the back? This is a question I have been stumbling over during my pours. Thanks for sharing this and your response when you have the time.
Here's what I do ua-cam.com/video/vrqkgkcp7c0/v-deo.html

I've not used floetrol before, I'm wanting to add to the pouring medium, what is the ratio between the two
Thank you

What type of bottles do you save your mixed paint in?
Hi so I can't get flood floetrol in the UK so we have owatrol and is thinner in consistency so I have pebeo or arteza paints so what would the ratio be for using condiment bottles please?
Great video Marcy! Do you always mix your paints in the cups, even when you are planning to pour the paint into squeeze bottles?
No, I mix my paints directly in my bottles ;)

Definitely addictive! I have bottles in my store that have measuring lines on them, but after a while you just get used to the feel of it :)
Love the way u talk
I have several sample cans of interior acrylic paint. Can I use those for pouring?
Should be fine :)
Thank you!
This is SUPER helpfull!!
Is thier anything you can add if you have made your mix to thin and you have no idea what paint you used when you mixed it up so you really can't just add more paint?
Not sure... you could always add another color and create your own (I did that once and liked the color so much but couldn't repeat it 😢)
hello there MMG did you ever use PRIMAL FLOW paint?
Thanks so much!
Marcy, you said that you use that ratio most of the time. My question is, do you use the same ratio/consistency even for three-ring pours? Thank you Marcy!

Great
Wouldn't poking a hole in the cup also help "release" the paint?
That's a different technique
You have a great speaking voice!
Why do some use floetrol and glue?
Why would you leave the painted canvas sitting on the paper as it settles why not lift it up on cups or pins?
Why would you have to lift it while painting?
Wouldn’t it be nice if they made a measuring cup just for paint pouring ❤️
Gerri Peter I saw some on amazon and they have ratio measurements on the cup. Search for paint pouring cups. I can’t remember the name.
