    Doug your optimistic when you say most people know how to do drywall. Most means the majority or nearly all.
    I think most people don't know how to do much.

    Very smart idea to mark the studs on the floor and ceiling. Something to think about, drywall is fire resistant more so than wood products and that is one reason it is used in homes besides being cheap and fairly easy to install. It is also available in water resistant form. Y'all are doing a great job on that trailer.

    • @ethelryan257
      @ethelryan257 Місяць тому +2

      This is a very strong argument for it. We had a fire in our garage many years back. When my dad built it, he insisted we kids put up drywall, tape and mud then put another layer on (at 90°) mud, tape the whole nine yards.
      That fire didn't make it through the wall. Impressed me. Never expected such a flimsy material could be so effective.

    Even though you don’t like drywall it sure does help define the space once it’s up. And in the kitchen where most of the wall area is covered by cabinets and appliances it’s perfect. As far as no windows in the kitchen - it’s a galley kitchen where both ends are open to the home. So it’s not like you are walking through a door into an enclosed space with no windows. I think that it will look and function perfectly.

    • @diyfferent
      @diyfferent  Місяць тому +6

      She hated drywall before that even. It's just a low quality product that falls apart easily, gets moldy easily, is heavy, and tedious to finish. It doesn't handle moisture. It doesn't handle structural movement well and is subject to cracks and popped screws. Also, it would seem that mining for gypsum isn't very efficient or environmentally friendly if you care for that type of thing.
