I can't explain this but you have just helped me make a quantum leap forward just when I was almost crying - feeling I'd never get what I have kept trying for. Your way of teaching is so perfect, for me. Nearing 80 ..life long artist, all mediums now back to WC's and have been unable, till you appeared...to paint in the loose way I wanted. I think bc I kept wetting the paper. You have put lots of water on at once and not wetted the paper beforehand and while wet to keep putting in gently...additional colours. Somehow your way has given me renewed hope having listened and watched now I feel so much more capable to keep going. Thank you so much and don't change how you are talking to us ...soft and gentle. Wonderful !!!
I’m so glad you are enjoying the tutorials! I have a mix of realistic and loose tutorials with a new video every month (sometimes every two weeks but it depends on how well my kiddos nap, hah!). More in the looser style you love coming soon 💕
Thank you so much for explaining so well how to make a contour drawIng from a photo. It was really helpful to see the reference photo that you were using at the same time as watching the process. I learnt a lot from your very helpful comments and guidance.
I’ll try to include more photos along the side of my tutorials but I have to make sure that there aren’t any legal restrictions on it so that makes it tricky!
Oh I love that this is helping you! I firmly believe that a good drawing foundation really helps in so many artistic endeavors-and now I can add “embroidery” to the list!
Tysm you are the best their is a kdrama namely nevertheless and in it the actor loves butterflies i am totally into it. I am myself a calligrapher and i wanted to draw a butterfly but could not draw it after watching your video i did it the left side was a bit difficult to draw but finally i did it. Thank you so much💖
Hello Katrina, love your butterfly videos. I would like to know approximately what size are these drawn/painted at? I would like to do multiple on one sheet, but I believe actual size maybe to small for details… and I don’t want to go too big. Do you have a suggestion?
Great question! The butterflies themselves are around 5in wide at the SMALLEST. Some are a little larger but I don’t think any of them are smaller. The green one shown in this video is at least 6in wide and tall (if memory serves me).
Haha, definitely not perfect! But I do my best to get it close (and I kinda like some organic, natural differences between the two) I have a video mini-course on that here: www.blusheddesign.com/art-classes/visual-arts-composition
I basically repeat the process. I generally like there to be some “mistakes” in the symmetry so that it looks a little imperfect, but I do strive to get it close. As mentioned in the video, I have a full detailed tutorial about how I drew both sides of this butterfly here: www.blusheddesign.com/art-classes/how-to-draw-butterflies-tutorial
I will not be, and here is why: My goal and mission is to equip budding artists with the tools and instruction that they need to create art for themselves. Providing the drawing would defeat that purpose by creating “mini Katrinas” rather than “artists” who are able and confident enough to create whatever they want on their own. There are a lot of instructors who will provide you a “coloring page”, but that’s not MY passion as a teacher.
Apparently it’s not a real butterfly? I found it among a collection of scientific butterfly photos and assumed it was real, but apparently it is a photoshopped butterfly with cicada wings. I don’t really know, honestly! I learned this from some angry commenters, haha
Apparently it's not a butterfly at alL! I found it while looking at a database for butterfly specimens but it looks like these are cicada-like wings that have been digital placed onto a butterfly body... and colored. Unfortunately.
I told my fam to subscribe to jyou without you my child wouldn't have gotten a A in drawing so big huge shout out to u love you big sis i wish i could see you huges and kisses and tell me if u in Tiktok i will 100% follow 😍

Because once upon a time I found the reference photo among a collection of butterfly specimen photos and I loved it so I painted it and shared the video process with my students to help them with drawing techniques. Floods of comments soon taught me that it is a "Photoshopped" butterfly with cicada wings. Oh well! The drawing techniques still hold true and I hope they were helpful

@@katrinacrouch thank you 😊, that is pretty much what I had estimated …. So a half sheet would be perfect to put them all and some one one painting.
How did You draw the other side of the butterfly because looks exactly perfect ??
Haha, definitely not perfect! But I do my best to get it close (and I kinda like some organic, natural differences between the two) I have a video mini-course on that here: www.blusheddesign.com/art-classes/visual-arts-composition
Ahh So lovely. It all comes together surprisingly easy.
Glad it looks that way! Haha
Sometimes I’m not that lucky!
Really very very useful and I am very happy to say I must like this, thankyou so much, love from India and please reply where are you from.
So glad you found it helpful!! I'm from Michigan, in the United States
That's beautiful but I'd like to see how you draw the other side so perfectly.
I basically repeat the process. I generally like there to be some “mistakes” in the symmetry so that it looks a little imperfect, but I do strive to get it close.

:(
Here is the link! www.blusheddesign.com/art-classes/how-to-draw-butterflies-tutorial
These are beautiful are these drawing available for download or possible in the future?
just sketch, not print, not class

If you want no outline draw the linart softly only you can see it and then colour
Yes! Or use a kneaded eraser to soften the lines before you paint!

I was doing really good until my pencil touched the paper😕.
Don’t give up!
I love that it took her like half an hour to draw this and took me 2 minutes to trace oop
Talent is the willingness to spend the time ;-)
@@katrinacrouch True true ;D Lovely video btw super descriptive x
If you want the extra instruction on top of all of the free content I share on UA-cam and Instagram and my newsletter, then “yes”.
Why do you call it realistic when no butterfly has 6 wings? 😂😂😂😂😂
