Yay! Another patient artist. Heat drying watercolor dulls down the color and stops any further granulation or salt effects. I only use a hair dryer, not heat tool, and only once there is zero sheen on the paper because that helps stop the dulling effect, but still rarely.
I LOVE this butterfly exactly the way it came out. I've painted it with your video twice now... and I see a 3rd time in my future. Yours is still superior-- and so delicate and gorgeous!!!!!!!!

I can't believe this is the first time your video popped into my suggestions. I ❤ this butterfly. It's so beautiful and detailed, it looks as if it may fly off the page. Thank you for sharing!!!
Wow! Incredible! Such Zen watching you! Watercolors are so luminous, and appear so easy, yet that subtlety is very challenging! I may give it a try! (I prefer my "foolproof" oils!😉)
I'm somewhat of a newbie to watercolor (or any type of painting). When I came across your transparent green butterfly, I had to try it. I painted it yesterday and...WOW!... it came out stunning. I attribute that to you, Katrina! Thank you!!!! You're a wonderful instructor! Now I just have to decide which of your butterflies to paint next. :-) BTW, do you happen to know the name of the green butterfly? I wasn't able to find it anywhere.
Oh yay!! So glad you found it helpful and are happy with your progress so far! Unfortunately I learned after painting and posting this little guy, that it’s a merged photo of a butterfly body on cicada wings 🙄 apparently my photo source wasn’t as good as I originally thought, but it’s fun and beautiful to paint nevertheless. The rest are real butterflies and moths, I promise! Haha
@@katrinacrouch That's funny! I don't love it any less. As a matter of fact, I might even try the same one in different colors. Yesterday I finished the Blushing Phantom (another success!), and today I think I'll tackle the transparent blue guy (after I watch your video). Thanks again for sharing your talents!
I agree! The greens drew me to this butterfly-you don’t see a lot of green butterflies around, and then this triple wing feature was the icing on the cake! So glad you enjoyed the tutorial!! 💕

This is stunning beyond measure! I don't think the lines give the butterfly the stained glass look, I agree with u that it looks delicate, especially because the vains of a butterfly are in fact like that, which is why I thought this was so difficult to draw. I was rly confused about the lines, where they started and where they actually finished. I have a question, though: how do you make such fine lines with your number 2 brush? I'm kind of afraid of trying to paint my butterfly because I've never been able to make suck fine lines 😭 Thanks for the amazing tutorial!
The key is an almost dry brush! Not a lot of pigment and only damp-not “wet”. Practice a little on some scrap paper to help your hand adjust. I’ve been drawing delicate things for YEARS (like, almost daily for two decades) so it isn’t hard for me but will take some practice to get the hang of it so scrap paper practice and less water are my best tips!

Also a big tip, if you roll your kneaded eraser over your drawing instead of rubbing, it will pick up your pencil lines without damaging your paper at all. That is one reason it is not solid and is moldable. Love the butterfly🦋
This is absolutely gorgeous! And a fantastically informative tutorial. Thank you. Just one note though, the sound is quite quiet so it’s a bit hard to hear. I did have to turn the volume right up (I am using an iPad) and could hear ok then but did have a mini heart attack every time an ad came on and the sound was insanely loud. 😂

Blushed Design well after doing more research, there are no butterflies with six wings. All butterflies and moths have four wings.
