    Yay! Another patient artist. Heat drying watercolor dulls down the color and stops any further granulation or salt effects. I only use a hair dryer, not heat tool, and only once there is zero sheen on the paper because that helps stop the dulling effect, but still rarely.

    • @katrinacrouch

      I have never used a heat tool of any kind-I guess I would rather wait and let the paint do it’s thing, hah

The rest are real butterflies and moths, I promise! Haha

    This is stunning beyond measure! I don't think the lines give the butterfly the stained glass look, I agree with u that it looks delicate, especially because the vains of a butterfly are in fact like that, which is why I thought this was so difficult to draw. I was rly confused about the lines, where they started and where they actually finished.
    I have a question, though: how do you make such fine lines with your number 2 brush? I'm kind of afraid of trying to paint my butterfly because I've never been able to make suck fine lines 😭
    Thanks for the amazing tutorial!

    • @katrinacrouch
      @katrinacrouch  3 роки тому +2

      The key is an almost dry brush! Not a lot of pigment and only damp-not “wet”. Practice a little on some scrap paper to help your hand adjust. I’ve been drawing delicate things for YEARS (like, almost daily for two decades) so it isn’t hard for me but will take some practice to get the hang of it so scrap paper practice and less water are my best tips!

    Beautiful! What paper do you usually use?

    • @katrinacrouch
      @katrinacrouch  3 роки тому

      I typically use Strathmore 300 series watercolor paper. It’s a cold press, gentle texture and pretty affordable where I’m at! I also use Arches occasionally but it depends on what I am painting. I think this piece was on Arches Hot Press

    This is beautiful! I have a question. Who makes your sap green? Different brands of colors can be completely different and sap green is a big one? Also a big tip, if you roll your kneaded eraser over your drawing instead of rubbing, it will pick up your pencil lines without damaging your paper at all. That is one reason it is not solid and is moldable. Love the butterfly🦋

    This is absolutely gorgeous! And a fantastically informative tutorial. Thank you.
    Just one note though, the sound is quite quiet so it’s a bit hard to hear. I did have to turn the volume right up (I am using an iPad) and could hear ok then but did have a mini heart attack every time an ad came on and the sound was insanely loud. 😂

      @katrinacrouch  2 роки тому

      Oh gosh, that sounds awful! Hahaha, I’m so sorry! This is an older tutorial and I’m not super tech savvy so there’s been a long slow learning curve! Hopefully the newer videos are easier on the ears and the heart!

      Look at the photo to decide-I typically start with Ultramarine blue as my base for all of the blues that I use, but I also love DS's Mayan Blue Genuine: amzn.to/3CxoxDs (affiliate)

    I'm a beginner, why type of watercolors do you use? I've seen tubes and pallet colors.

    • @katrinacrouch
      @katrinacrouch  4 роки тому

      Gayle Barry I use tubes at this point in time, but they basically turn into a palette when they dry! If you’re a beginner, I recommend a palette ☺️

    • @mikenoneofyourbusiness7122
      @mikenoneofyourbusiness7122 Рік тому

      Low level beginners use hard watercolours. Professionals and serious artists use tubes, of course. Tubes are also best for large paintings. You can’t create BIG without tubes.

      Thanks for adding a link to the image. I’m trying to find the original to see if it was photoshopped, or a genetic mutation- because it has an extra set of wings. (If real, I wonder if it could fly…) Totally awesome looking- has an other worldly look to it, especially with the green color!

      Blushed Design well after doing more research, there are no butterflies with six wings. All butterflies and moths have four wings.

      Blushed Design “Butterfly adults are characterized by their four scale-covered wings, which give the Lepidoptera their name (Ancient Greek λεπίς lepís, scale + πτερόν pterón, wing).”
