Yo Kosmic, you should do a bingo score card of all the things you want to do during these romhacks. For example the fabled 8000 kick. The clips through walls. Platform glitches etc. Just s thought!
I love "The Extreme" from Final Fantasy 8 as much as the next game music geek, but hearing the first few seconds of it in SMB1 soundfont looped endlessly for half an hour was really getting to that nails on chaikboard level LOL
The lightning enemy running along the ground reminds me of the Basil enemy from Cave Story, which looks practically identical and also runs back and forth along the ground
Ah I recognize the music in the hack! It's this specific part from "The Extreme" from FF8 ua-cam.com/video/RVkcmx2l3WA/v-deo.html ...I'd like to thank the many hours I've spent progging E12S in FF14 for this specific bit of knowledge
22:31: It reminds me of Megaman X6 I think, where Zero died and there is a fake copy of Zero. I think this Mario was like that, maybe Mario was kidnapped or something lol . Because it was small Mario firing, its weird. But anway, the hack was so fun. Auto scroll, moving bullet launcher and reverse control at the same time was crazy!
I really like this hack. I feel like it did a great job avoiding the easy to fall into pitfall of just throwing too much at you at once. Pacing was great here.
(10:23) Wait, what? You land on the right side of a Goomba that's moving left, without stomping it, and then the game decides that it hit you? How does that even work? (11:34) Bullet Bills that come out of cannons do not die to shells. However, the randomly generated Bullet Bills (like in 5-3 of the original game) can be shell-killed. (12:19) Sweet triple kill!
what happens is something like, you pass through the goomba hitbox for a frame due to the "coin toss" of it only checking most enemy collision every other frame, and then the next frmae you're on the ground and inside the hitbox so you take damage. Another contributing factor in this case is getting pushed to the left by the wall. Thanks for the tip about bullet bills, you're right!
The level design was challenging and creative, the new enemies were great, and the floating Bill launcher was amazing as a final challenge. I think this is the best hack I've seen you play.
The Super Mario Bros Romhacking scene truly is like peeling back layers of an onion, you can find some truly amazing hacks, some hacks that require you to be so good at pulling off glitches that you practically need to have perfect control of Mario and in a few cases hacks that turn Super Mario Bros into completely different games. In 25 years I've seen more of them than most would ever believe but in recent years theirs been a renaissance of sorts with nes romhacks and Super Mario Bros is definitely getting some love with some Romhacks that push the game further. Here's to hoping the passion for this platformer never dies.
TRIPLE kill with one hammer? You are a GOD, Kosmic. I've only ever been able to kill two enemies with one hammer. And the manner in which you got that triple kill. Perfection!
12:40 - Given the level layout following the double power up that Kosmic messed up here, I'm going to guess the second stage power up was a frog suit. Poor romhacker is like... man, I wanted to see him react to the frog suit.
That looks like a pretty wild hack! Short, sweet, but with a lot of interesting ideas! Also, Luigi finally gets to finally show Mario that he has always been the best bro! 😄
How did I miss this one? This was a sick hack! Loved the unique aesthetic, the level design, the new power-up, and the new mechanics. I was not a fan of the broken background priority on those power-ups though. I wonder if there's a way to fix that? Maybe make the block with sprites until the animation finishes? Either way, great romhack! And an entertaining video! Glad I finally saw it!
I think it's awesome you're becoming 'the SMB guy'! Your videos are excellent, and I think they're definitely gonna inspire new people into making their own hacks someday
I love the fact your videos are genuinely entertainment and funny in a way I can't stop laughing and at the same time I'm impressed by your abilities to play. Please keep doing this content
Sorry if I missed it but can you quickly explain the difference between everfrive and power pak, and how it allows you to run bigger or more complex games?
I saw the live's chat in the intro and for those who were wondering what is the OST playing in the 0:00 background, is the Batman level 4 OST for the NES -> ua-cam.com/video/bKpVz2_6p9E/v-deo.html
autoscrollers probably mess with you more in this game than others because there arent any autoscrollers in the speedrun so you just arent used to seeing them
Do you cut out the full levels for video length? I personally would love to see whole levels! I guess that probably means I need to catch your streams lol
Cool hack! It's a shame the music's barely bearable. I don't usually get sick of music quickly in games, and judging by chat I wasn't the only one that did here.
No he didn't. For an 8000 kick you have to hit a koopa on a block from underneath, then kick it before it hits the ground. (that, or you can kick a koopa on the last frame before it pops out of its shell.)
I stream a new romhack every Wednesday!
www.twitch.tv/kosmic
Awesome!
Yay, I'll be there
Yo Kosmic, you should do a bingo score card of all the things you want to do during these romhacks. For example the fabled 8000 kick. The clips through walls. Platform glitches etc. Just s thought!
16:58 “How’s it feel to have no more sprite slots?” is going to be my new taunt. That is so teasing without technically being insulting. It’s perfect.
This series is the only way i can keep track of what day it is anymore
Ye I'm glad there's romhack thursday
weird how he puts romhack Thursday on a Tuesday, hmm

9:18 I like how he says "oh I'm doing so bad" as he pretty much aces the room with backwards controls
I appreciate how when you cut you tend to do it so the music stays continuous
Bismuth is really into music, so I think he likes it to sound good. Great editing!
shows how much depth they're can be to quality editing even with simple products
The lightning enemy running along the ground reminds me of the Basil enemy from Cave Story, which looks practically identical and also runs back and forth along the ground
I'm checking "small fire" in my bingo card because of that ending.
1:12 I will never get tired of seeing Kosmic phase through everything.
The unbelievable amount of CONTENT from Kosmic!

The lightning cloud kind of reminds me of the angry sun in a way
I love the atmosphere in this hack. It feels so outerworldly and mysterious.
I really like this hack. I feel like it did a great job avoiding the easy to fall into pitfall of just throwing too much at you at once. Pacing was great here.
Man I don't know why I just really love watching speedrunners. They just make entertaining content
Seeing how Kosmic just knows every inch of this game and messes around everything in a hack he's never played before is SO entertaining, great content
Ok, the triple hammer suit kill was slick. I was already stoked when the double happened.

When he said "yo, what up" @ 0:00 I feel as if that was meant for me.
12:19 The insane triple kill
This is probably the coolest hack you've played so far imo
Sometime down the line, you should make a tier list of all these rom hacks! I think it could be interesting haha
Great idea :D
The music sounds like The Extreme from FF8 but it's in a short loop
Yeah, I realized that immidiately!
Drinking game: everytime he loses a power up at most 10 seconds after he got it.
It's always "hi UA-cam" but never "hi twitch" 😔

Early music sounds like the opening notes for FF8's The Extreme, final bossfight final stage.
AND I KEEP EXPECTING THE TRANSITION.
8:50 I was not ready for that either lol :)
0:36 - the music here is from the Home Alone NES game
That music is pretty Extreme
This series is like the “It is Wednesday my dudes” meme except superior!
That color palette is actually really smooth
the calm devastation every time you lost the hammer ...love it 😄

I love how badly the reversed controls messed with his head after he'd been calling it too easy
Also the childlike glee of the hammer suit when it's lost immediately
7:28 Missed opportunity to see if the Hammer Bro. suit is fireproof while ducking.

Unsolved mysteries in 8-bit music💯
We need a compilation of all the weird hitboxes moments in this video
I've watched so many SMW hacks this was a refreshing change of pace
I bet the pipe dithering looks great on composite video
Floor 19 the gamer finally comes out xD so satisfying to watch, yes it was a great floor I agree!
13:44 was a Cheep shot
The best part of this channel is the low key skill moves.
This hack is amazing! It looks like was made by Nintendo in the late 80s! Love those hammer suit!
5:33 ekoro (doremy) in the kosmic chat
Does the ending count as small fire Mario?
the music loop sounds like the bridge or some section from Final Fantasy VIII - The Extreme
autoscrollers probably mess with you more in this game than others because there arent any autoscrollers in the speedrun
so you just arent used to seeing them
You missed the 1 coin on 2F for the white mushroom to appear in the overworld!
Ultimecia’s theme sounds surprisingly good on a nes.
Nice job on the romhack
12:19 SIIIIIICK!
Shoutout to the Batman NES soundtrack at the beginning of the video.
The music reminds me of Tubular Bells.
Very cool & well-designed hack. Thanks for the video. :D

Kosmic sees a big block: I gotta see what's in their!
It's there
This hack has some great difficulty curve
Mario ROM hack tier list when?
lol how do you manage to get all of these very precise collisions that usually work against you like bouncing up into the 3rd koopa from middle koopa.
nice backwards controls 8000 shell kick
Kosmic upload? Pog
That was a tough one
Do you cut out the full levels for video length? I personally would love to see whole levels! I guess that probably means I need to catch your streams lol

Where's the underground music from? It's so familiar but I just can't place it.
Ok, dug around a bit and I found it. It's the piano track from Final Fantasy 8 - The Extreme. ua-cam.com/video/RVkcmx2l3WA/v-deo.html
this's got some nice palettes
Is that music from Defenders of Oasis?
First 8000 opportunity was 3:36
The music is a NES version of FF Dungeon, mixed with the Extreme from FF8. It isnt pleasant in this form however
Someone recreate this in Mario Maker now.
The beard is back
Very cool hack! Some of the other ones weren't this interesting to watch
I actually liked this one too.
Cool hack!
It's a shame the music's barely bearable. I don't usually get sick of music quickly in games, and judging by chat I wasn't the only one that did here.
Aren't the lightning bolts just extremely fast, sprite-altered spinys?
no, much more altered behavior beyond that
its like shinra building
Purple rooms should have had backwards music
11:55 u missed a 8000 shell kick
No he didn't. For an 8000 kick you have to hit a koopa on a block from underneath, then kick it before it hits the ground. (that, or you can kick a koopa on the last frame before it pops out of its shell.)
