What he fails to mention is the South Korean army has the same overwhelming technological advantage that their air force and navy enjoy. The North Korean army has a massive tank force but most of those were built in the 60s. South Korea just rolled out a brand new state of the art tank, the K2 Black Panther. The North would have a hard time penetrating the armor of modern South Korean tanks with their older lower caliber tank guns. The only real threat the North Korean army poses is to the unarmed civilian population. They could use their artillery to inflict heavy casualties on defenseless civilians but the South Korean counter attack would annihilate them.

Met a South Korean officer at my base in the Great Lakes. His English wasn't the best but he did have a translator follow him around for any circumstance he may need one. All he had to say is how fortunate he/all his comrades feel to be allied with such a great country as the USA. Ever since, I have nothing but the utmost respect for South Koreans. Most crucial factor in determining the victory for South Korea in a potential war is the proper use of its air force. As long as South Korea and keep control of the skies, it can secure a victory against North Korea (if the war was only North vs South).
While serving the US military in Korea I came across a statistic that said there would be 1 million deaths inside the first week. If the North invaded the South I don't know the truth behind it, I also heard that N. Korea put much more into their military than the public was aware of.

Ummmm.......no? South Korea was not build because of china or Japan. It started as an Asiatic migration that started ever since the Pangea bridge was in existence. Korea is a separate entity from China and Japan. Koreans rejected Chinese Mandarin and the Japanese language, culture, political influence because it is immensely separated from China or Japan and they had their own culture and agenda. You can say Koreans are part Mongols because of the Ghengis Khan invasion. China and Japan tried to invade several times but failed repeatedly. They did not succeed in making Korea their territory even after they tried multiple times.
Korea wasn't "built", it started out as an independent nation with a distinct culture and philosophy. Maybe some help from the USA and other nations to build the initial foundation for effective governance but absolutely not from China or Japan. In fact, Korea was fighting off China and Japan ever since the peninsula's existence and was successful. Koreans, biologically, are part Mongolian. Not Chinese or Japanese.
And by the way, nobody in Korea ever even thinks about China. To them, China is a place where sweaters and coffee mugs are made with low standards of living and a lot of poor people. Its sad they think that because China do contribute a lot to the global economy with cheap labor. Japanese people though, well, Korea's GDP is gaining a lot quicker than Japan's and eventually Korea may step up to be Asia's super power in a about 25 years according to a study.
