Specto data on a comparison like this would be nice. I did a quick ball inventory, and I am 2/3rds symmetrical. I am speed dominate most days but the syms still get it done.
I prefer to have a mix of both. Current Tournament Arsenal is: Hammer Black Widow 3.0/Storm Proton PhysiX Track Paragon Pearl/Storm Code Black Storm Phaze II/Roto-Grip Idol Radical Deadly Rattler Hammer Scorpion Low Flare Storm !Q 78/U Edit: I will alternate between the balls with slashes depending on how I feel that day before heading to a tournament as I only ever bring 6 balls to a tournament.
I like to play straighter and prefer symmetrical balls most every time. I do have one asym ball and use it if I have to move left. It seems to recover better when having to "bend" it more. But, it is a low asym ball with a mass bass of around .014. I have a very hard time with skid/flip balls which, it seems, are mostly asyms. Great video, terrific explanation of the differences.
Luis, great video! Question: what makes a "strong " Asymmetrical and a "strong" symmetrical? Currently, I have no Asyms in my arsenal because I do prefer the more stable controllable look to the pocket. After reviewing your video, I am waffling on getting a Asymmetrical because I am not confident that I did not "execute" precisely each time skewing my decision making to am Asymmetrical an option choice foe me. What is your thought?
im a new bowler just started going every week, I want to learn and join a league soon. Im needing help picking a ball. please help.....Arctic Vibe Black Widow 3.0 Venom Shock. I bowl 1 handed no thumb
Gem is still stupid strong, Harsh seems just a tad cleaner, but honestly not by much for me. I use both the same exact layout/surface at a 360-500-1000, and Harsh goes down maybe 2 or so feet further before it bites the lanes I go to. My Gem just bites into the lane the moment it hits the lane, at my feet.
I personally do not care if the ball is symmetrical or asymmetrical. All I care about is that the ball will go straight with a gradual and subtle roll into the pocket. If I can't aim the ball with control and if the ball's core is fighting me, that is a ball I do not want.
Thanks for clearing that up. I always thought asyms would lock up and roll forward while syms would hook more

great info, now i got a better understanding

Would you say generally that on a fresh house shot you would start with symmetrical then transition to asymmetrical?
I have a low rev rate. So I need the asim to get the ball motion I need.

Do you think the harsh is stronger then the gem or is the gem still the strongest?

It's really simple. All else equal, an asymmetrical ball will burn energy and change direction faster and provide a shorter hook window
Got 2 of each but prefer symm
Nice!!!
I like asym pearls, but not a fan of asym solids.

Then you want a symetrical ball. Smoother curve

Hi Luis. I lean towards symmetrical pieces, but there is a place for asymm pieces in a well rounded bag.

Symmetrical more control of the ball motion asymmetrical to unpredictable for me
So what you’re saying is your release is unpredictable
That optimum idol is my favorite year 2024
Asym dominant.
