      Use silicon earpiece covers, they act as a thermal insulator preventing the aluminum from acting as a thermal heat sink, which causes the condensation.

  • @herefobeer

    It's not exclusive to Max. I pulled out the cushions of my AT after a few hours and it had water too. What's causing this condensation is the mesh (and not a thin sponge) that Apple decided to use. For most headphones, sponge gets wet instead. That being said, the speaker assembly is glued on I think to the aluminium interior so water should not go in to electrical from there. BUT, the hole at the top to remove headband goes hot into the connectors which connect unshielded to the main PCB. So, tape over that little hole and these should be fine.

    Purchased a pair in New Zealand and can confirm condensation showing up on the speaker mesh and on the driver itself. No actual problems with noise cancelling or sound quality, but a fair amount of moisture build up!

      Thanks for sharing your experience, Warenoticer! That’s cool you’re in New Zealand-I guess this is a global issue then because I’m in the USA haha! Anyway, that’s what I noticed as well, with no actual problems seeming to be caused by the condensation (and now I’ve been using my AirPods Max for about a month). Honestly I just ignore the condensation at this point by not removing the earpads, besides on the rare times when I do take them off. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your new AirPods Max and thanks for watching!

    After almost a month using the AirPod max exclusively to workout I’ve noticed this weird sound in the left side of the headphones and couldn’t tell what was going on, making the long story short I’ve discovered this condensation issue and got really disappointed, I’m returning them tomorrow! I’m curious to know how are your AirPods after a year using them.

    This definitely happens in other headphones made of plastic. Even though the ear pads on my ATH M50x's are harder to remove, you definitely can remove them like with a lot of other headphones. I removed the pads to wash them because sweat build up and they started to smell. While I didn't my remove the grate and over the drivers and other tech, there was condensation on the plastic grate behind the pad once I removed the pad. I just don't think people look at it as much because it's a little more difficult to remove the pads on more traditional pairs of cans than on the Max.

    I have the condensation issue also, I workout in them every day and have owned them for a little over a month now and about 3 weeks ago, is when I started noticing issues. They won’t detect being on my head, they won’t connect to my phone, and all I hear in my ears is like if I’m standing against the wind on a super windy day. If that makes sense. Sony wh xm5 has the same problem, as does the xm4 series. Condensation even causes rumbling noises because it confuses the ANC microphones. The condensation here is inside a non-accessible compartment (faces the outside) and can only be slowly evaporated away in dry air. The condensation facing the ears is removable but also doesn't cause the ANC rumbling.

    I'm in the same boat. We're in lockdown in the UK and because I bought my pair in store I have to wait for the lockdown to be lifted before I can return them, I've been waiting for three months to return them but now I'm thinking maybe I'll just chance them and see if the condensation causes them to break in the long run. Think I'll take them out the box again and start using them, but before, the condensation used to appear after 90 minutes of wearing them

      Yeah it's definitely a difficult choice with Apple Stores so inaccessible. For me, I've just been using my AirPods Max like normal since I've posted this video and honestly I don't even bother to wipe the condensation off anymore. I like the AirPods Max and I bought them to use them so that's what I'm doing! Plus I don't want to deal with Apple Support again, I just got done having a horrible support experience with them when my M1 MacBook Pro was bricked during charging (video here: ua-cam.com/video/vsIarUQf4ZE/v-deo.html). • @originimages4662
      @originimages4662 2 роки тому

      The condensation is an issue and is cause is glitching. The condensation likely has salts in them which gets inside of the headphone components and causes corrosion on the metal contacts. Specifically the connections at the ends of the headband. If you disconnect the headbands and look at the metal contacts on the headband tips, you'll see that the connections that carry signal across there can have a buildup of green corrosion on the tips, that I believe is from the salt in the condensation. If you clean that off, in my experience the performance will improve until it builds up again.

    The condensate may not be so bad. If truly condensation, then this is pure water, H2O, without mineral content. Pure distilled water is a very poor electrical conductor. Thus, this water is far less likely to short out or damage the electronics. However, pure water is very corrosive to metals. So some damage may slowly accrue. I feel like this will not be a big issue. No reviewer has thought of the reality of distilled vs. tap water. Big difference.

    Looked up this video today because i have the problem. And yes it does effect the headphones. Mine will hiss in the left ear . I guess it gets more condensation in it more then the right. Or maybe rhe electronics in the left are weaker or more effective by the condensation. Who knows. But its horrible. This has happenwd to me like 3 times randomly and every blue moon essentially. But when it happens its always because the condensation. Just common sense is the wet water or whatever drops in the ear cup hits the speaker and wets it and thus screws up the sound and gives me that low and sometimes medium volume hisssing and crackling sound which makes you feel its damaging your ears or at rhe very least annoying . And makes u want to take to w headphones off. As im writing this im still hearing the hissing sound. And this is while im not playing any sound through the speakers. But bottomline is if the speaker gets wet enough, it of course screws up the sound. And so crappy problem. But i guess the only up side is it happens maybe once every 2 months. But when it happens its horrible. Cuz it to be honest , it sounds and FEELS, like have you ever had water get in your ear while swimming and then even after you finished swimming the water is still in your ear and crap. You know how it feels and sounds???? Well thats the 100% exactly how the speaker sounds and makes you feel. Horrible.

    This issue has been talked about since January......we are now in May yet I cannot find any information on if this is going to be addressed by apple........I want them but I will be wearing them at work so this condensation issue is holding me back on buying them.........does anyone know any updates on this topic.......

      Great question, Warenoticer! Yeah I too haven't heard any official statement from Apple regarding condensation in the AirPods Max, which is unfortunate. However honestly I've just ignored the condensation after this video. I use my AirPods Max everyday and just don't even take the earpads off to check for condensation anymore. The headphones still work great now 4 months later (I got them at the end of January). But yeah who knows for sure though if the condensation could eventually cause issues. In my case, it appears it hasn't. But if you do decide to buy the AirPods Max, I'd definitely recommend getting AppleCare just in case anything happens. Hope this helps and don't forget to subscribe for more awesome tech videos!

      Use silicon earpiece covers, they act as a thermal insulator preventing the aluminum from acting as a thermal heat sink, which causes the condensation.

    Yeah, so this issue pisses me off. What kind of engineer decided to use aluminium and then apparently also decided not to test for things like this? I returned my AirPods Max because of this and Apple support is being annoying. They keep saying the engineers are looking into it, but that it is for some reason still not clear what is causing the issue, even though I am pretty sure it is blatantly obvious.

    • @sanderhoogeland9161
      @sanderhoogeland9161 3 роки тому

      And maybe this is not an issue at all and it will not cause any problems, but if that is so, what in the world is taking them so long to simply say that?

      Fair points, Warenoticer! I personally just ignore the condensation (for the most part) in my AirPods Max after posting this video. I’m sorry Apple for wearing these on head and listening to music and podcast for long period in the very normal temperate air in my home.
