    Tom, you are my new favorite person! I've been Type 2 for at least 10 years. I took Ozempic for 1.5 years and had to give it up due to extreme side effects. Too bad because that was doing wonders for my A1-c. I have always struggled with my blood sugar numbers. Hard to make sensible food choices, not drinking enough water and a sedentary lifestyle. This week, I am doing a trial of the Libre 2 Freestyle and have been watching your helpful videos. The accuracy is more than 15% off and last night was 50 points difference. I remember you briefly explaining this in another video, but this video is VERY helpful at understanding the process. Thank you so much for helping people like me! I'm going to be looking up all your videos. Bless you! (I live in North Carolina, USA)

    Hi Tom, thanks for this Video, they all help. I am in Australia and I am using the Libre 2. I because I didn't know about this system at all I am happy to go by the readings I get. Just using the finger prick for years I knew didn't work well for me especially with my diet etc. I am quite blind in my left eye but using this system, I am feeling a whole lot better and my left eye believe it or not is improving slightly. Thanks for doing what you are doing, I think you are supplying a great service to the world community and I am more than happy for being a patreon and doing my bit to support you in your endevours for helping others in the world community of diabetics.

    Hi Tom. Thanks for another informative video. I am in the USA and I have been using the Libre for about 2 years now. I personally think the #1 tip should be to stay well hydrated. I’ve found incredible inconsistencies in comparisons when I am not well hydrated. Let’s face it. Sometimes we just don’t want to drink even though we know we need to. Putting that aside, I have dealt with some far off comparisons and Abbott has replaced every sensor. Every time you have to go through the same text book cookie cutter questions, but in the end they get the information they need, and if needed they request the sensors back for evaluation. I am currently using the regular Libre, but i do have the Libre2 sensors and reader as well. I am just waiting for the app to come out so I don’t have to carry 2 devices, but I am getting antsy and want to see how they compare.

      @@lilsisasu thanks for your reply. I have been researching and also finding that +/- 20mg is normal. But the 30-40 gap I get on the higher end is not good for me. I keep getting cgm readings of 160-170 when my BG is 125-135 by finger stick. But not always. I find myself using my finger sticks to compare which kind of defeats the purpose of trying to rely on the cgm while im out. I can deal with it being off, just need it to be more consistent. Just had a few glitches at times of sensor error so the graph had some breaks..ahaha but other than that typical difference I see at the time is 20-40 mg/dl but just one time, the other time is accurate to about +/- 10-15 mg/dl. I’ve found Abbott to be very good at replacing faulty sensors, but it takes about a week so I always have a spare just in case. (Annoying when I have to self fund).
    My own favourite top tips are to apply sensor the day before activation and to stay hydrated. I agree with accuracy: try doing a finger prick test on your left and then right hand immediately- you’ll probably get a slightly different result (I just tried it and found a 0.3mmol/L variation) 😀

      Main value of sensor is the continuous reading, from which one can learn over time what effects are produced by what actions. Users should be advised of this before starting to use one. The delay between venous and capillary levels and tissue fluid readings can be 20 minutes so differences will often be present. Look at the sensor frequently and use it to learn the effects of the various things that you do. Type 1 diabetics will always have some unpredictable changes in levels when affected by a viral or bacterial illness

    I’m watching you from the US, and I use the Freestyle Libre 2. This is the 2nd day of use and I have soooo many questions. I accept without question the 15% variance. My main question is, “Does the FL2 work with a test strip for calibration purposes.” I am interested in any related content that you put out. Thanks for doing this.

    • @terencehawkes3933
      @terencehawkes3933 2 роки тому

      Hi, I have just acquired an FL2. No, the FL2 does not calibrate to a blood glucose test strip inserted into it. You'd think it would, and should but it doesn't. I am currently having trouble because my FL2 readings are a whopping 2 mmol/l below what my blood glucose meter is showing. This is really annoying because my FL2 low glucose alarm keeps going off in the middle of the night thinking that my blood sugar is below 3.9 when in fact, it is actually 5.9. I have requested a replacement sensor from Abbott and am hoping for an improvement. If it does not, I will chuck the FL2 and go back to pricking my finger. So far I am having a bad experience with the FL2.

    Hello! I'm from Ukraine and it's my second day of using FreeStyle Libre 3. My results are quite different from the glucometer. The sensor shows higher results in comperession to glucometer, only when my blood sugar is under 5mmol/L the results are correct. I'm quite worried about it. It's my first experience of using FreeStyle Libre.

      Just put it on the outside of your arm if it doesn't work under your arm. Also watch a video on exactly how to calibrate it correctly. Ive had 3 sensors be faulty because i would put it on then be doing work. For the first hour you LITERALLY need to sit down keep your arm motionless and wait for an hour, make sure your not taking a shower or going swimming for 24 hours. So take a shower before applying it. I had to learn by asking a pharmacist how to apply it correctly because one wrong move and your sensor could screw up during application and calibration hours.

    • @TypeOneTalks
      @TypeOneTalks  3 роки тому +1

      You are most welcome. Yes this bleedings happen from time to time but in my opinion the reason is not too much force during the application but rather hitting a "wrong spot" too close to a vein. It's not a big deal and most of the time people are still able to use the sensor when this happens and the bleedings stops. Hope this helps.

    Hello from the UK with an FSL 1.
    One more thing that helps me is to apply my sensor at least 24h before the one I am ues runs out. My diabetic nursebtold me that in the first 24h your body doesn't like the FSL being in your body and this gives you inconsistent readings. Have checked this and find it to be true. So 24 or 36 hours before the current sensor runs out I attached the new sensor but will not start it reading. Hope that makes sense?

The only upgrade in the U.S. that I was aware of was the upgrade from 10-day to 14-day battery life and that is what I have been using for three years. The sensors perform within the ranges published by Abbot, but those ranges for my sensors was much more than what Tom said in this video. The range that I read is plus-or-minus 40 ! ! ! ! those are really lousy limits. My experience is that the readings over three years is they average about 27 points lower than a fingerstick value with contour next test strip. I can't wait to try something else.
