Later he built his own boat, did everything but install the auxillary engine, built the hull, fitted it out and lofted the sails. He and I, an 8 year old, spent as much time as we could on the water. We would be out of sight of land after drifting all day and dad would point the way to steer while he dealt with the catch, soon as land was sighted we,d be spot on course, no chart, no compass, just dads expert seamanship.

seriously! if anyone thinks this is even close to rough you need to come experience the southern ocean and fish the south west coast of Tasmania. Yeah the little island off the arse end of Australia, 70-80 knots common and 120+ not rare, add to that up to 22 meter swell and it can get quite hairy. And i might as well add the fact a lot of it in vessels not even close to half the size of the one seen here.
