  • What you're not going to hear about from most reviewers is why the CGI is so good in this film. As an emerging technology storyteller, I am blown away by what they do with this movie. Here's why this film works and how the technology is transforming the movie going experience. Check out my new review.
Note: I mention WetaFX as well as Halon Entertainment. There are likely lots of other effects companies and studios that had a part in making this film. I did not interview any of them. So, what I include in my review are assumptions of how these groups used their technology based upon what they do and who was listed as having worked on the film. All inaccuracies are mine. Please feel free to add additional information and corrections in the comments. Thank you!

There are a lot more than 4 movies in the story.

Yes. Younger fans are probably the most familiar with the last three films, well the last four films counting this one, but there's the whole original series that started in 1968 that older fans grew up loving and watching. Nothing like it had ever been done before. That kind of storytelling was revolutionary at the time.

I disagree. EVERY CGI shot in this was perfect.

I definitely think the film is a masterclass in how AI, CGI, and spatial technology is reshaping the film making process. It's genius and the people who worked on it were not only massively talented, but you could absolutely tell how much they loved the work they were doing because this movie exudes the feeling of a job well done. It's hands down the best CGI film I have seen in years, even if I have one or two knits ... but honestly, on the whole, this is a masterpiece of gorgeousness to watch on screen. Thanks for the comment. I'm really glad you liked the film and enjoyed the CGI. (edited to fix a typo)

@@ErinUnderwood Thanks, appreciate the feedback. Yes the CGI is truly sublime. I would expect nothing less from Weta FX. This is the company that gave us the incredible FX in the first Apes trilogy, the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, King Kong, Gemini Man, and of course Avatar 1 and 2, to name but a few.

@@peterlenham3180 Weta FX is an amazing company. You can literally track the progress of technology tools + artistic talent if you watch those films in chronological order. It's like a roadmap to the future of cinematic storytelling. ❤ If I ever get a chance to talk with a Weta FX engineer, art designer, producer, etc. I would jump at it in a hot second.
