    Amazing review. I was raised Catholic.So, I see a lot of religious euphemisms in the movie But I really enjoyed the movie and I enjoyed your review. Do you ultimately see " the watchers"; as guardian angels?

    • @ErinUnderwood
      @ErinUnderwood День тому

      *spoilers in the note below* That's such an interesting question!!! In the movie, I definitely think that the original fairies were seen as guardian angels to a degree. However, once the Changelings appeared and scared people, making them unsure who was human and who was fairy ... I think the bonds of trust definitely broke. If the fairies ever got out of the forrest, I think they'd be more like avenging angels at this point. That's actually what makes the twist in the story so clever and fascinating. Thanks for the comment. I'm so glad you watched and liked my review. 🙂 You made my day! 🧚‍♀

    I believe that the series failed for two main reasons. First, the writers were too brilliant. They wrote jokes about typical TV tropes, and if the joke took more than one episode to deliver, viewers would assume they knew what would happen and tuned out before they ever found out that they had been fooled. Second, they tried way too hard to make it very clear that it was not a religious show. In the first three minutes Michael said that every religion guessed about 5%. Even people who know nothing about statistics understand that there is WAY more crossover between religious and ethical teachings. It offended a huge portion of the population that enjoys cute comedies.

    • @ErinUnderwood
      @ErinUnderwood 5 днів тому

      Your comment is brilliant. Yes. Some of the jokes were really smart and layered across multiple episodes. Also, while making the series universal by not tying it to a religion, I think some people won't be able to get past that and see it as a metaphor for their religion, whatever that might be. It's such a clever way of constructing a story... maybe too clever. Still, I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the comment.

    If you want to watch a fantastic British sci-fi/super natural series, i highly recommend "BEING HUMAN" (British version). It captures the name of the title perfectly. It really is a fantastic series.

    • @ErinUnderwood
      @ErinUnderwood 6 днів тому

      Being Human is one of my favorites. From the stories to the characters, it was so well done. British TV is often superior to US TV because they know how to focus their stories into sharp, smart episodes that don't just drag things out for the sake of stringing the audience along. Some of my other favorites are Merlin, Life on Mars, and Humans.

    You say they might still exist. My Dad was in the USAF and while the Draft era was still going on, pay for even Staff NCO's sucked so they would try and keep their families overseas where the cost of living was lower. Thus I was born in the Philippines, raised there, in Nippon (Japan) and on Okinawa while it was still an American Territory. Yeah, I'm old. Let me add that no matter where we were, Mom taught English in the local Public schools, and whenever Dad wasn't in Vietnam he taught the local military in his specialty areas. Even though the Japanese considered Americans as little better than an Army Of Occupation both my Parents were so respected that quite often they (we) were invited to coworkers and Administrators homes for holiday celebrations, dinners and lunches. Also a benefit is Mom and Dad made sure we didn't just live there, they made sure we learned and experienced as much of the local culture as possible. I wrote all this to point out that though my parents were devout Roman Catholics, they made a point to make sure we honored the local customs and religions. When I asked my Dad why we did so, he smiled and said, "Because you never know, they might be right." Yes, in my cranky old heart I still hope that there are Fairies, Sprites, and Pixies still out and about, and I do still have a Saki to honor the Rice Gods.

    • @ErinUnderwood
      @ErinUnderwood 7 днів тому

      What a wonderful comment! I love this perspective so much. You really never do know, until you know. I also love that your mom and dad did so much to immerse your family into the local culture. Understanding and respecting other cultures is such an important part of life. You realize how similar we all are no matter where we are. There is a really touching movie that I am going to review when I am well enough to review that I think you will like. It's called Perfect Days. It's in Japanese with subtitles, but it's such a well done film that you can pretty much tell exactly what's happening. It had me in tears at the end... while on an airplane. If you watch it, let me know what you think. 🙂

    Good luck with the surgery! For movies that you might not have seen, or would like to rewatch again, here are some favorites off the top of my head: Diva (French, 90s) which to me walks just this side of the line of magic realism. A thriller with quirky characters and style. Delicatessen (also French, and 90s) -- a post-Apocalyptic comedy in a rooming house with a dreadful secret as to the supply of meat on offer in the butcher shop on the first floor.... Sirens (Australian) An uptight CoE priest and his young wife arrive to bring salvation (or at least a gentle suggestion) to a Bohemian painter and his entourage. Hijinks ensue. Heavenly Creatures (New Zealand) Peter Jackson's first film that wasn't bloody and/or funny -- based on a true crime case notorious in NZ of two teenage girls who murdered one of their mothers, very much adapted from the real diary entries (entered as Crown Evidence) of a folie-a-deux gone South. Anyway, hope we see you up and visiting theatres again soon!

The first "Tomie" movie came out in 1998 and as a simple fellow I like to watch any series sequential in order, and I love the Manga also. 3. I think I wrote of this earlier, but "Errementari The Blacksmith And The Devil" is on Netflix. 4. The 1967 French version of "Oscar." 5. The 1927 "Metropolis".............Understand that we wish the BEST for you. I hope the results are good for you.

    The old woman cannot be old Ruby. Ruby is 5’2”. The old woman is taller. The old woman did come for old Ruby when she died (maybe the old woman is death or something), and then old Ruby got to look through old woman’s eyes (still think the old woman was death). And we only heard old Ruby’s voice and we only saw through that old woman’s eyes. The old woman was not any version of Ruby.

    This movie killed the franchise girl boss movies dont sell!

    • @ErinUnderwood
      @ErinUnderwood 18 днів тому

      I dunno. I don't think I would classify Furiosa as a "girl boss" movie. Most girl boss movies have a point to make that has something to do with being female and trying to make a point about some aspect of feminism. Furiosa isn't like that at all. She's much more like Ellen Ripley in Alien. They wrote her really well as just a person responding and reacting to her situation. What she says and does, and how she says and does it, has no gender connotation to it. If the "girl boss" thing in other films is rubbing off on Furiosa or some fans think she's a girl boss and they are skipping the film because of that, it would be a shame.

    The best Godzilla film ever made was Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975). Hands down, period. The music, special effects, suit designs and the human interest is untouchable. My honest opinion. Never seen anything made afterwards that even remotely touched my heart. Damn shame they didn't continue the series in the mid 70's, just when the last film was a turning point in the franchise.

      @@ErinUnderwood Well, I suppose it's a matter of what you are into. More vintage collecting for me. If you watch it, it's got to be the uncut version. There is a cut version that was floating around for ages and that is a nightmare! Especially if you are expert enough to know what was cut. The reasons behind why it was cut to shreds is a long story and my finger might get a cramp from typing it!

    Short answer: No. Garfield itself is not enticing enough to make me wanna go see it in theaters. If it was something like Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog or even The Legend of Zelda instead, I would go invite my friends to come watch it with me.

    • @ErinUnderwood

      Same here! I grew up with Mad Max and I really worried this this film was going to feel totally off track. I was immediately impressed by the quick pacing of the action and then by the moments where the story slowed down to just let us experience a moment or two of pain, hope, fear, anger, etc with Furiosa. And whether or not there was dialog, we totally got how she was feeling or what she was experiencing in the moment. And, that mostly silent scene when she and Praetorian Jack touch foreheads... so much happens in that moment on an emotional level. We see a future that could be for them both... and for everyone else...but we also know what's coming and that just makes the moment so much more poignant. We have never seen a moment like that in any of the films. Thanks for the comment!

    • @ErinUnderwood
      @ErinUnderwood 22 дні тому

      Yep. It's okay at best if you are more than about 7 years old. It really feels like Garfield got dropped into an existing script and they taped it all together with scotch tape to make it work.... but the theater of children I was with giggled the whole time. So, I clearly wasn't the audience for the film.

    • @ErinUnderwood
      @ErinUnderwood 22 дні тому

      This movie was not perfect. Nope.... but it knew what it was and it really leaned in hard on that knowledge. I think that when an cast, writer, director, and crew all understand the kind of movie they are making and they all go for it as a group you really do get a totally different vibe from the film. This movie definitely doesn't pretend to be anything but a cheesy 80s throwback to the great stunt films of the time, and I am cool with that. The trailer was rubbish for sure! Thanks for the comment.

      I honestly don't know about my review or the film. I saw it the day after I recovered from a major depression.... and it threw me right back into the depression. When I get depressed, it can be really bad... and I sat in my car unable to breathe and imaging things people shouldn't think about. Nothing I read about this film made me think it would trigger a depression. I was actually pretty furious once I got past my initial response... which is also why I only gave it a 1 minute review so that I could mention the depression thing so other people would know. I have so much more to say, but I don't feel like being pissed off again. Thanks for the comment, Ryan. You are amazing.
