- We took the stealth camper van conversion out for some urban stealth car camping tonight, and parked up at the local DIY superstore - B&Q! Unfortunately we didn't reckon for the noisy locals who decided to have a car party nearby!

So we decided to do a little urban car stealth camping, and found a local spot to stay the night in my stealth camper van conversion / stealth camping minivan. Tonight we took the stealth camper van conversion to a massive B&Q store to see if we could stop the night.
Info on my stealth camper van conversion / stealth camping van / stealth camping minivan : It's a Ford Grand Tourneo Connect, I removed the rear 2 seats so the car became a 5 seater, and I'm able to to transport the my boot jump camper conversion kit around while still retaining 5 seats all the time. I added privacy blinds and some basic curtains to turn it into a stealth camper van conversion which I use for urban stealth car camping whenever I can.
This DIY micro camper build is basically a homemade boot jump conversion kit, and I based it on the Amdro boot jump, which costs around £2500 - I built my own self build micro camper for fraction of the cost, so I could do stealth camping.
You can download the plans and detailed photos for my micro camper boot jump conversion completely free here: bit.ly/3lgi6iJ
I'm pretty new to this urban stealth car camping stuff so I would love to hear your suggestions to improve my stealth camping minivan - feel free to leave me a comment! I also hope my channel gives you some ideas for your own self build micro camper using a boot jump conversion kit.

Loved the sarcasm lol subscribed
Haha another joy ..boy racers 🤣
You can never escape them ,along with the Doof Doof Doof bass of the music 🎶
Deep joy 🤣
Even the earplugs don't block the bass 😄 Got caught out again this week, video up soon 😄
Me being in a left-hand drive country, my heart always skip a beat everytime I see oncoming vehicles and you're driving in the left lane. 😂
I get that a lot when I hire a car in Spain 😊
I'm originally from the UK, and live in New Zealand... I get anxious when I see the driving montages in Canada /USA, or Europe. (when I walked the Camino in Spain, the amount of times I nearly got killed crossing roundabouts!!!)
Another really good video! I like your style and van. I also enjoy your 'review' videos. They are nicely structured and informative. Looking forward to more videos. Cheers!
Thank you! Glad you like them as much as I like making them! 😄
You are so lucky to find somewhere without anpr cameras. I just did a stealth camp and really struggled to find anywhere without them. It's really nice to see another Mk2 connect camper and one in the UK. 😁
Just checked out your channel, awesome! Cracking build you've got, very nice! I'm finding that lots of places have parking signs but when you walk around, there are no actual ANPR cameras, they stick out like a sore thumb. I think some places put up the signs but won't pay for the cameras. Seems like the best places are the retail parks with lots of mixed shops on - nobody can tell which shop you're using so staff tend to ignore anybody parked outside. Or maybe the ANPR cameras just aren't that popular in the North West 😄
@@ManontheOutside I will have to have another look for the cameras. I'm always there in the dark so a bit hard to spot. I've watched a few of your vids but still got plenty left to binge on 😁
I'm delighted to have found your channel. I've got a FTC camper conversion myself (XLT LWB, no build).
Awesome, they are great little cars/vans! Love mine!
I mean sure B&Q Ravenhead, not exotic but if it works man. 😁
Like the van setup pal, used to do the same in a Berlingo size Peugeot.
Thanks for listing your gear and the links. That’s really helpful!
No probs - glad you find it useful!
Just discovered your channel. Great stuff 👍 can't wait to watch more
Thanks, glad you're enjoying it! Lots more coming soon, as soon as I can get back out!
New subscriber from Manchester. I've slept in a B & Q car park before now and I'm sure I'll do it again. Great video , looking forward to more .
They seem to be great spots as long as you can sleep through the noise 😊 Got a few similar ones planned so I'm sure I'll get used to it! 😊
This is my local B&Q 😋 you picked the night of the car meet 😁 they hav permission to go on there around once a month, seemed a quiet one tho 😉 I will be full time van lifer too at Xmas 💪 once my van build is fin 🙏
We are in Liverpool right now in a stag weekend 😀
Enjoy 👍👍👍
The dogging video followed by this - I've hurt myself laughing!
Superb. Please do a night in central Rhyl, not too far from you!
I was in Rhyl at the weekend actually, unfortunately didn't get a chance to camp, but I did notice all the motorhomes near the beach 😄
Such a great watch. Just bought a Fiat Doblo van, stealthing it up soon. Subscribed.........bring it on sir !
Thanks 😄 Good luck with the Doblo, that will make a great conversion, lots of fun getting it stealthed and even more going out in it 👍
Good little vid m8 🙂 enjoyed that 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video buddy, I avoid big car parks now because of the kids in their cars revving their engines. Look forward to the next one,,, great point about ANPR cameras
First time I've seen anyone in car parks revving engines. But I'm pretty new to all this so I guess it's quite common!
Loving the vids your pretty funny gov.
Thanks 😊😊
I might need a glossary, being from the US and speaking a different language. “Doggers,” I think I’ve figured out. They’ve never bothered me. :) Subscribed.
Thanks for subbing, hope you're enjoying the videos! 😃 I'm not sure of the equivalent term in the US, somebody mentioned 'cruising' to me, but not sure if that's the same? It's a strange hobby anyway 😄
Hi I'm from Bootle but live in the south now, nice to hear the accent with this content.
I'm getting into basic car camping to keep things simple, got a super nice Mk1 face-lift Berlingo
Hi, I have a few relatives in Bootle, small world! Berlingos make great micro/car campers, lots of great groups on Facebook to get some ideas. You'll love it. 👍
@@ManontheOutside i didn't think to have a look for FB groups, I'll have a look cheers.
Fuck me ! That's St Helens I live a few miles away from there.
Just came across your channel by chance loving the videos guessing by the accent your merseyside region or very close you should try a stealth car camping west kirby right by the coast lovely views over to North Wales 😀
Accent is a dead giveaway 😄 We did West Kirby not long ago, lovely little area, plan to go back soon to, video here: ua-cam.com/video/BI_HQIfDY3k/v-deo.html
It looks like yall were in the middle of their desired race track.
Definitely, round and round us all night 😄
Where have you gone.... any more vids.... we miss ya.....
Great vid, what was your cooker thing called again?
Thanks! If you mean the one I was cooking with in the video, it's called a Jetboil. There's a link in the video description with more details. They are quite expensive so do shop around, another guy on here left me a comment and says he's just picked one up for £96, I think it was from Go Outdoors. They do make cheaper versions too (I think OEX make one), but not sure if they're as good. I also have a CampingGaz single burner built into one of the drawers on the boot jump but I don't use that when properly stealth camping as I have to open the boot to use it, which gives me away. 😄
Nice conversion but it beats me why so many people want to go to a supermarket car park to stealth camp ...get out in the country side and enjoy the views
All part of the fun! I absolutely love driving out to the Lake District, Scotland, the countryside etc. but sometimes you just need to pop out somewhere nearby and test out a new bit of kit or just get away from the house for a few hours and anywhere will do really! It's also useful for getting yourself used to a bit of ambient noise outside, that's one thing I struggle with - getting to sleep when there's stuff going on nearby, so the likes of car parks etc. are good places to get yourself used to that; you can't always find a quiet spot. Also, sometimes if on the road, you might not be able to find a free spot or campsite, and have to stop somewhere that's not ideal, so this gives people some tips for doing that too. 😊
Lots of good overnight spots get spoiled by boy racers or bored teenagers 🙄.
I’ve used the loos in B&Qs fairly frequently, but not the ones in the middle of the retail floor 😉😁.
The van looks great by the way… steak and potatoes beats macaroni cheese every time imho 😋
I've started taking earlplugs out to sleep now, I suppose they have as much right to be there was we do, but at the end of the day though, at least it wasn't doggers 😊😊
@@ManontheOutside Lol yes, I agree. Doggers have a habit of using tree lined car parks and lay-bys. That’s a damn nuisance, but it really makes my blood boil when they’re at it in the middle of the day when there are families using the same spaces 🤬
Its just car cruising usually doing nothing more than chatting with there mates playing a bit music showing there cars no problem.
👍
Struggling to source some thermal blinds for my windows can you recommend a supplier
Skoder roomster 08
TIA
I had a nosey and I can't see any for the Roomster....the nearest I can find is UV blinds which are a bit seethrough. The only thing I could suggest is contacting sellers of thermal blinds on eBay and asking if they can source them for the Roomster - I assume they import them from the Far East and might be able to get them for the Skoda...possibly?
@@ManontheOutside thank you 😁😁
Got a lot of light bleeding through those front curtains. Love your videos though. New subscriber.
Thanks for subbing, appreciate it! 😄 Yep I know exactly what you mean about the curtains, I made them from leftover material I used for the seat cushions and they're not the thickest of material....probably needs more of a blackout material. Also, the odd shape of the car ceiling has given me some interesting challenges, haven't yet found a good way to completely close up the light, gaps as the sunroof is preventing me from attaching any kind of proper curtain rail to the ceiling. I am hoping some clever company comes up with a proper curtain/divider set but no luck so far. If you have any good suggestions I would welcome them! Always looking to make it even stealthier! 😄
@@ManontheOutside Maybe cut a section of 2 inch thick foam board to match the contours of the ceiling to the point where the walls of the van start to square off. That should give you a flat edge rather than a curved and contoured edge. Maybe hang your blackout curtains on an adjustable shower curtain rod, or any kind of rod just behind that section of foam board. The foam board is light weight, thick enough so light won't bleed through, and should only be only big enough to match the curves and contours of the ceiling to give you a nice straight, flat, squared off edge from floor to ceiling. By cutting a similar shape out of a thinner foam board, or even cardboard, and placing it on the other side of the curtain rod, so the top edges of the curtain and rod are sandwiched between the segments of foam board, would drastically reduce any light bleeding past the top of the curtains.
Personally , I think cooking inside the van with all of the doors shut is a very bad idea! I am a seasoned campervan/camper but also a gas engineer, and gas cookers are 'flueless appliances' and need a lot of ventilation! (CARBON MONOXIDE???) I recommend that you experiment with ; easy set up 'tarps' and 'driveaway awnings' and cook outside! I don't wish to be judgemental on your choice of venue, but why would you choose a carpark in a retail park when there are so many Beautiful settings in the British Isles? That is before you cross the channel???? Your vehicle looks great, so go and have a 'proper adventure' in our wonderful country instead of a 'carpark'? Just my opinion! dx
Good point on the gas, I ended up buying sets of wind deflectors so I can cook with the windows wound partially down, as it's not always possible to cook outside in the rain (and it rains a lot in the UK 😀)
Those cars are just a small car meet , they will probably do a few donuts until about midnight then hopefully will get bored and go home 🤣
Eventually left after 1am.... I think they were nicking compost from outside the store too, God knows what they needed that for 😄
@@ManontheOutside lol ..Not guilty sir (my name 😂)
Exactly I can't imagine young blokes being avid gardeners lol ..
Probably for sale at a pub in the local area 😂
What do you guys do about "ablutions"? :/
A few options...I've got a portable shower which charges USB which is pretty good. Baby wipes are an option too but I don't really like using those. We only tend to camp 'out out' foe a single night and much more than that and we book into a campsite with showers usually.
👌👍👌👍😊
I would have left at the first sight of those car racers...no sense staying some place where you dont feel safe.
To be fair you get used to it after a bit, I find earplugs help nowadays 😬😄
ANPR! F me 😒😩
They're a great way of making money out of car drivers...all over the UK now
Weirdo
Thanks for watching 👍
