Deadlifts are popular because they are marketed heavily by cross fit and the powerlifting community. Trap bar deadlifts are far better and this exercise is far superior for posterior chain due to the locked position and angle. We all known-it works the lower back etc but What people forget is the mid back. This exercise strengthens the posture muscles in the mid upper back that help keep you rigid in an upright position. Deadlifts do not do that as well as these. Just like front squats you get stronger in a straight and rigid position. You can easily fuck up a deadlift and squat by rounding the mid back. It is harder to round the mid back in an extension and front squat because the movement pattern is making you extend flex and hold a rigid position.
Great video , people often do this as a primary lower back exercise and don't engage the glutes as much .
