    Sounds like a set of
    JJ6-v6's in a 65 deluxe reverb amp ran into a 4/12 closed back cabinet with the volume maxed out playing on a 1972 fender deluxe telecaster in the neck position with the tone control rolled off and volume all the way turned up inside a 40' by 60' cinder block garage'vibrating a set of 1964 Chrysler hubcaps sandwiched between 2 floor mats out of a1969 GTO judge inside a 55 gallon barrel with the lid on and and a set of Pontiac 421 connection rods laying on top the lid with 1/2 dozen shop towels under them.
    That's the best way I can describe it.
    Nothing beats the sound of 455 Pontiac.

I'm finding your post interesting. Tha k you for sharing. I'm planning on sharing mine when it gets closer...hopefully soon.

      @@tunnelportterror I was gonna use some #16 heads and have a set of 1970 #13s but went with wenzler series 2 and his tunnel ram w comp roller cam and two mark sullens e85 carbs and 1 7/8 headers. People talk smack about the wenzler heads but I've had very good performance with them and they are very affordable. Getting the right carb helps a lot...sometimes they can act like ignition problems and just drive you nuts...keep up the good work

      dude, it's a vintage 1962 Super Duty 421 cam, with solid flat tappets. that's how they idled. and that was a fresh engine just built. first start in the winter, cold garage, with a big Holley 850 DP from an L88 427 big block Chevy.

      factory SD421 was 230 intake, 240 exhaust, with LOTS of overlap, .500" lift
      this is a Crane copy which is slightly bigger.a few degrees

  • @Arninetyes
    @Arninetyes 2 роки тому +1

    Really? Flat tappets, fresh rebuild, and you let it idle? You're lucky it did no damage. I did that on my first engine. It flattened cam lobes, despite all the lube I applied, and despite priming the oil system prior to starting. Okay, to be fair, it wasn't a Poncho, it was a small block Ford.

      I had a McKellar #10 in my ‘59 389 Catalina. I made sure the distributor was set so the engine would fire on first startup. It started immediately and I set it to 2000 RPMs for 20 minutes. Perfect break-in.

    • @SandMountainBallistics
      @SandMountainBallistics 2 роки тому

      Was it a comp cam? And were you using zinc? The assembly lube wipes of the first time it’s turned over and it doesn’t hurt to let it idle for a few seconds you just want to get the rpm up on it because it gets the drag off the cam

      @@ChicagoRob2 did you peen the press in studs?

    • @ChicagoRob2
      @ChicagoRob2 2 роки тому +2

      @@SandMountainBallistics I had screw-in studs installed. Stock Pontiac pressed studs are very weak, because they are hollow for oil delivery. They do not play nice with big duration, high-lift cams, which can cause pulling and/or breaking.

    • @SandMountainBallistics
      @SandMountainBallistics 2 роки тому

      @@ChicagoRob2 I built a 389 here recently and I found a set of old isky screw in studs for the early style heads. I had isky custom grind me a cam it’s got .465 lift and 224 224 duration. I’m also running it with Rhoads vmax lifters I put a windage tray in it ported the heads about 80 percent and I had the machine shop for the biggest intake valve they could which was a 1.92 and I had a three angle valve job I back faced the valves. I put long branch manifolds on it and soon I’m gonna be putting a Mickey Thompson cross ram on it. I’ve drove it a little bit with a 600 cfm edelbrock and it’s pretty fast by barly hitting the gas I go it up to 70 but I really think a bigger carburetor will makes it a crap ton faster and some exaust I’m really hoping for a 400 horsepower engine

  • @patrickshaw8595
    @patrickshaw8595 2 роки тому

    How you overhaul an engine = must begin with used cam.lifters and cylinder heads in order to get the piston rings well broken in under various conditions. Next the new camshaft installed with it's break in at 2000 rpm. Finally the new cylinder heads with the HEAVY HOTROD VALVE SPRINGS are installed and the engine is ready for use then.

    Seemed like quite a few of the GM cars of the late 60's and 70's had bad camshafts concaved lifters bent pushrods and broken rocker arms. Oh yeah, and dead cylinders.
    Probly just me though.

      And today they have bent valves, timing chains jumping time, spark plugs snapping off, pulling threads out of aluminum hesds, turbos melting down, and filled with Chinese, Korean made shit parts. And cost 50 grand for the pos. And are worth $500 scrap value in less than 10 years. While the restoreable old cars are worth 50 grand.

    Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
    from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
    Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
    on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas
    station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel
    pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in
    the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems,
    turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and
    New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be
    done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of
    crime here, called emissions and smoke crime :-(!!!!

      All the tyrants issuing these orders will all be tried in People's Courts and executed by carbon monoxide poison from classic cars LONG before 2030 arrives.
      Have nice day, Rabbi.
