Think we finally found the race of the magic shop owner. You know, the one that doesn't care about the fate of the world and still demands enormous fees.
The Yellow Dragon is his own Peseant Railgun... The Yellow Dragon Dive Bomb gave me an idea for a cool magic item. An upgraded version of featherfall boots. Meteor Fall Boots. Basically, they function the same way as featherfall boots, but they take all the damage the wearer would have taken from the fall, and directs it into an attack straight down, either against the ground or whoever was unlucky enough to be underfoot. Great for super hero entrances...
Huh.. I recall my first and only encounter with a Yellow Dragon. Our party was tricked by an ancient great wyrm Red to make this special net trapping contraption in the desert with some types of bait. Mind you, we were under the impression that we were going to witness and hopefully capture the 'fastest being alive'... Boy were we all surprised when we snagged a yellow dragon blitzkrieg pass us with its attacks and then went slam into the magical contraption that not only shut down its movement but was pressing it into a sandwich position of energy walls. The Great Wyrm appeared and simply said this one line while the dessert was turning into glass due to its presence. "I got you now."

My advice would be that dragons are egomanics, not so much as you would consider it in a human sense, where you have A. mr joe and B. mr joes ego. with a dragon you have only B. with the intelligence and intellectual capacity of a dragon behind it. there is no difference between what and who they are. as a dragon gets older & larger unlike humans it increases in intelligence and power in dirrect proportion, going from a themed, clever and very cunning animal to it's own super intelligent demi force of nature. dragons are magical more than most creatures in d&d and other off shoot universes. kind of simular to riddick the charachter from the pitch black universe, where he sniffs everything out and "is" his nature.

I could possibly be thinking it wrong, but this works in my head, as one of the things I often like about other breath weapons is when they have secondary uses, and aren't JUST elemental damage discharged. Where I'm going with this is if the salt blast can bind, or incapacitate, then select flying enemies, like other dragons, might fall? I guess it could be less useful; falling and crashing might free them of the restraint, while doing only a little damage, but if it could get a flying enemy out of the air, that could be useful. Obviously, the usual goal is just damage = victory, but sometimes I like when they have alternatives. I think it could be cool if one of these was hiding under the Anauroch Desert; maybe in a small Netherese cache/ruin, where the ancient arcanists magically maintained a fresh water source. It's very salty now, of course, but hidden defensible, and provides what the reclusive wyrm likes most. This is until some enterprising explorers accidentally stumble upon it.
Yes, quite possibly. Dragons are ridiculously fantastical, so perhaps some Brass dragons got revenge by stealing Yellow Dragon eggs and transforming them, via a ritual, into Brass Dragon eggs.

Been thinking of doing a adventure that uses the bit of the lore that says Tiamate had a sister that might even have been a twin sister, which birthed some of the other chromatic dragons. With maybe some of either just the Yellow dragons, or specifically those chromatic dragons that are not depicted as heads of Tiamate (an so might be from this sister dragon) are attempting to revive an reinstate their mother dragon into her god/goddess state she had possessed. Though here is another idea, what if we actually find out that tiamate and her sister dragon goddess had created two separate breeds of dragons in the chromatic line, which had differing alignments from normal. Like that Tiamate's breeds were largely evil of some kind from chaotic to lawful, but her sister were more of the good alignment, though i guess we could go for that Tiamates brood were those of chaotic alignment in evil an her sister's were of lawful alignment. You could also largely do this with the metallic breeds as well, like that Bahumat had created most of the metallic breeds that are lawful alignment, but another set of breeds came about thru other methods that were chaotic alignments yet were not full descended from Bahumat, such as it was found they were mutated or corrupted in some form.
AD&D 2e Draconomicon says the Yellow Dragon's breath weapon is a high-speed blast of super-heated air and sand. It covered an area of 50 ft (15 m) in length, 40 ft (12 m) in width, and 20 ft (6.1 m) in height. Basically a super heated sand blaster.
You and Dungeon Dad are legends for bringing forth whatever lore scraps there are about missing dragons ( and I think they are rare not due to low in number but keeping to themself, hides/ other continents on Toril etc or bolster numbers ). Its a bloody shame WotC didnt incorporate the missing dragons, give credit or other benefits to the conceptors like Lloyd! One gripe I have with Lloyd is he made the Yellow badically a... Lung dragon or drake like salamander.. due to no wings. Then its not a TRUE dragon and shouldnt be called a dragon. I stick eith his d.mag 65 version but would add chin frills to make it more distinct from the Orange. Oh and Purple dragon? WotC could blend Lloyds Purple and 4e Purple together since both breathe some form of energy weapon and live more in tve mid to upper Underdark unlike the Deep dragon who seems to prefer the lower UD. Also Purples dig tunnels up into the field to hunt cattle and other grazing prey animals at night. They do share intel, knowledge and deal making with the Deep dragon.
Thanks again, great work. I still hope that you can do a video on the Neogi eventually. Have a great day! I'm looking forward to whatever monstrosity slimes, skitters, or slurps its way onto your channel next.

I share the same mindset there. I go for Orange dragonborn. Dual element fire/ force but the breath weapon deal half dmg of each. Oh and using Fizbans Chromatic d.b as framework! Make dragonborns from any missing ones. But... will salt spew count as poison then? Would make sense be it green dragon are descendant of blue + yellow or coincidentaly unique by that Tiamat herself spawned them
I like to think that the mating ritual/process between blue and yellow was fatal for the yellows, and the resulting greens were stable enough to breed on their own without fatal results, causing a generational gap to form where the yellows disappeared in number, and the Greens appeared in ratio.
I had to find out if yellow dragons were really creatures after watching a greentext d&d story about a dwarf and half-drow half-ogre, apparently they are a thing in the game; Also, Wraith sent me.
It can dig, swim, run and fly. Maybe that's why they nerfed its raw power. It could run circles in any biome, jump out, imprison you in salt and maul you if you fail to break free. Also, that sounded very interesting. To simply crash full speed into a powerful enemy, and directly use the speed to hurt them. Definitely a unique dragon.
I think if I ever deploy a yellow dragon in my world it will be like Huanglong, the chinese deity. He's of friendly nature, much more like the metallic dragons, and would serve as a possible ally to the players. His breath weapon would be radiant OR it could actually heal those caught by it(dragons choice)
Hilarious image 😂 I also imagine yellows to have wing setup like a brass, gold or copper. Like why not? Metallics have a few dragons with wing setup like gem and chromatcs. Bronze, Silver, Steel, Orium, Amethyst, Emeralds etc. Most unique must be the orangish Topaz dragons excellent swimmers and fliers with backwards wings. Not as fast as yellows though
so yellow dragon versus mercury dragon, which dragon would be the better "flash blinder" of the two? also sabot rounds are the ultimate projectile 😵 i'm somewhat biased, okay i'm extreemy biased and yes... you can guess the idea that just popped into my head... in liquid form what you described could be very survivable.
Well, Yellow dragons can kick up a dust storm made of salt crystals as well as physically coat the whole body with salt.. that is harder to prevent I think.
AJ Pickett true more of an enviromental, but thanks to this i have images of mercury dragons body saboting castles, god even the word, with the silent "t", sabo, the route word for sabotage, comming from a type of shoe that was thrown... what happens to a tank crew aswell when their hit by one of these things. BTW as a side note i'll say after glancing over the comments section on this labour of love, that despite heretical beliefs, one can never have too many types of dragons, its like finding a hypothetical book on "demonology" the inner maniac in you truelly doesn't want the pages ever to end, that is if it doesn't escape due to an effect caused by one of the "images", being able to make worlds were only dragons exist, or put atleast one type of dragon in any world is the whole point.
Well I would also say that a Yellow could pretty much render the flash of the Mercury dragon ineffective atleast the one from their scales, as they could coat the Mercury dragon in salt covering it an dampening the flash to almost worthlessness. What is more s that a Yellow dragon could pretty much keep most societies at bay, by salting any fertile land around it's layer or a town with it's salt breath, though you could use that as a adventure hook from a town asking a party to find the source of the salt.
Well I had a yellow dragon that placed salt acid traps for groups coming up to his lair. Basically he would saturate a lake in salt till it was basically like the dead sea, and then create cavities in ground of an area that it would fill with the salt water. While the dragon would then super-heat the water, compress it under a cap or shell of earth an salt to create basically a salt landmine field. Imagine a player stepping on one of the mines an breaks the shell sending a spray of super heated brine basically up soaking him,, and some of the people closest to him.
Been trying to figure out a good villain for a campaign I'm working on featuring a fairly aged Blue Dragon as a sort of Hutt-esque quest giver. Not quite a good guy, of course. But a sort of neutral-leaning-evil presence looking yo simply keep it's dominion and bolster its personal power and prestige. Perhaps the appearance of a Yellow could be just what I need to get the big bad lightning boss in a position where hiring on the adventuring party makes sense. X3
I know this is a year old but I just caught the video. Do a video on unusual and unexpected physics in F.R. you seem genuinely passionate about the subject and I really enjoyed your break down of a dragon people's elbow from 200 ft up
There is the Deep dragon and I think there is another version of the Purple Dragon, it is very confusing. Also, in answer to your question Kirkish001, about 10 videos.
Oh I thought that the Deep Dragon was synonymous with the Purple Dragon. I didn't even know about those until AJ posted that video. Then again, I was mostly out of the loop on all things D&D until I randomly found myself thinking about Red Dragons around midnight last year, and found AJ's videos shortly after looking them up on UA-cam.
I've been watching your videos for some time now had to change the name of my profile but I'm the one that's always bringing up things like psionics the hundred-handed one and force dragons and Prismatic dragons
Since I have one coming up, can I request a video about the morkoth? No one really has much about them and you tend to dig deep and find some gems for details.
That was an interesting move you pulled there, I get notifications from every video though, not just the most recent :) In answer to your question: You sure can, I have added them to the list, I must warn you though that is can take me months to get to a requested video, unless it comes from a patreon subscriber, they get priority, otherwise, I work my way through the list one by one, as they come.
One of Bahamuts other siblings created a race of dragons that stand in opposition to Chromatics and Metallics, but, the yellow dragons were far too aggressive and needed to be "cut down to size" so that now, there are no Yellow Dragons, just a few small tribes of yellow Dragonborn who reject their kinship with all other dragons.
@@AJPickett oh good idea! I was just thinking of a kind of lost, coast- desert caravan of a mostly uninhabited, far continent so I guess it could be something like that
When are you doing Purple dragons? I had a miniature of that painted and we had a local Bad ass dragon, the one NO ONE wanted to go mess with, off in the wilderness for years to come. That was as soon as it came out in dragon magazine. Interestingly, they interacted with the blue dragon more than once, without knowing it. A different group, 2 generations later, killed the local red dragon to the southeast. But NO ONE wanted to go mess with the purple dragon, so he became like the local Godzilla, the Tarrasque before there was one. He would occasionally wander randomly out of the wilderness, leave a path of utter destruction, and later seemingly grow tired or bored and wander back into the wilderness again. Eventually they got a powerful enough group together to follow it back into the wilderness, where they found it's lair was a mesa in a "Valley of Gwangi" like setting, an area which was also home to numerous land-dragons, also from Dragon magazine. The Purple dragon occupied a tall mesa in the center of the valley. At this point, the group once again considered the outcome to be suicide, so they departed with information on where it was at.....so those too close by, at least knew where to avoid going .....lol
Is this all for 3e or would it work for 5e aswell? (Also, trying to find out what a yellow dragonborn’s breath weapon would be is harder than one might think)
Question I’ve been wanting to recreate the stat blocks from the dragon magazine 248 and bring them up to 5th however idk anything about 2e. Any advice besides reskinning a red dragon or such.
ahhhm.....i have to say no to the geting-clubbed-by-a-giant-thingy because you would just kick the bucket, cease to be,pink dust, no protection or good juju would help you
Lol my main dragon OC I have his name is Simba and he is a yellow dragon, I made him way before I played D&D which was with my cousin with me, he was a Wings Of Fire Allwing and watching this is very cool
Makes me wonder if one of the survivors is hiding as a humanoid salt merchant, since that stuff made serious bank in antiquity and the middle ages. :P XD 06:22 What's the dice roll for that? LOL. :P Can't they get around the "kamikaze" issue just by casting a high-level spell to give themselves temporary invulnerability?
Whoa.... Use the 9th lvl spell, Sanctify the Wicked, on this thing. (It's from 3.5e somewhere.) From totally selfish, to totally selfless. Reverse that personality entirely.... Interesting to think about.
That's exactly why yellow dragons show up at draconic parties. They love how the other dragons get all salty (see what I did there?) by their crashing them.
Sorry, generally a bit busy at the moment; please excuse briefness of reply, but will try to sum up: mainly I'm enjoying the background / history of the subjects as they're giving me huge inspiration for campaign and adventure ideas. Frex, the Yuan-Ti will be playing a central role against my players soon, conducting a guerilla / terror insurgency in a city environment. I'd never have thought of this without your video - great stuff!
More like - love watching the videos, but hitting an ad every 5 minutes is frustrating. One every 10 minutes, no worries, but more than that puts me off watching / subscribing, even though I would like to.
also have you seen both the total recall films, for a spell weaver plot, the hauser vs quaid theme where a protagonist is an attangonist at the sametime could work quite well with that.
Dan Acton well in the second movie cohagen is refuring to the "evil wife characher"(i can't rember the name) as a dog, in that whole "human tools" trope 😎🐶🙂, so in that sense you could have the party as the spell weavers pets/agents, as they are cohagen and the party are all quaids as it were, doing things to gather the gems memory whipped that their hausers could not. but with a buch of "evil wifes" lurking around who are rivals to the party members as unknown then known handlers. so you get a kind of inevitable doom theme to it.
Kinda ironic. It's DnD night for my group, I'm busting out a Green Dragon tonight, and was just thinking "how do I make this a little more interesting". They may be fighting a Yellow instead now
Not easier, just a different platform, I mean, you can reach me here, or email me, use google hangouts to send me messages, message me on facebook. I am not hard to get hold of, just pressed for time :)
Why are humanoid weights so broken? I have yet to find an answer for this. I bring this up because you mentioned the mathematical accuracy of the lore.
Just to clarify Dave Batista (drax the Destroyer) is 6'3 300 lbs he is built the same as the goliath art whose stats are 7-8 feet tall and weight of 280-340. This doesn't add up and is just one example.
Our monk can travel at 120ft a turn (without dash), so we house ruled if he takes his full movement in one direction he automatically crits his opponant.
if you want yellow to be a primary color, then where are the magenta and cyan dragons???? it's either that or primary colors are green, blue and red.... One simply doesn't go about mixing dragons to get new color dragons!
If you have a natural flight speed and that breath weapon hits you. You're pretty much gonna die from massive fall damage. An interesting prompt though is gathering the lost colors in an attempt to bring back tiamat's sister.
Quite right, I had not considered how that breath weapon would be highly effective against other dragons. Great idea for a secret cult working on a way to bring back a dead god... that gives me LOADS of ideas!

He's of friendly nature, much more like the metallic dragons, and would serve as a possible ally to the players. His breath weapon would be radiant OR it could actually heal those caught by it(dragons choice)
LOL make sure you bring him roast goose
Huanglong is much more like a subterranean-living gold dragon.
yellow dragons, the falcons of the dragon race.
yellow dragon doing a falcon punch would be like being hit with a cannon ball
Shaolin Dragons
Elric Engquist a yellow dragon litterally salting the earth, thats priceless! thanks for the thoughts anyways.
At full speed they are going 34mph/54kph, I wouldn't want to be hit by something that size going they fast.
Basically like getting hit by a large, angry car.
A large angry car with teeth
The Yellow Dragon is #1, while the Brown Dragon is #2 :)
Unless dragons have cloaca's
Dammit man. This was too funny for what it was.
@@AJPickett Now you made me think about dragon penises.
Please do the orange and maybe the Song dragons if you can
They are on their way.
Thanks for another great dragon vid:)
Pumping them out! My man
It doesn't matter how far back or how far down I dig into the A.J. Pickett archives... There's ALWAYS... a gem. 😊
I know this is a year old but I just caught the video. Do a video on unusual and unexpected physics in F.R. you seem genuinely passionate about the subject and I really enjoyed your break down of a dragon people's elbow from 200 ft up
Im excited for the Purple dragon. Also I know Vecna is already on the list, but do you know how high he is on that list?
kirkish001 AJ already did a video on the Purple Dragon, last Summer if I recall correctly.
Welcome back
AJ Pickett I never left watching your videos in the hospital with one thing that got me through I enjoy your work and dedication
r u going to do a Genasi video ??
Hades yes, at some point.
Can you do lore about the Roc?
Zonofv 1 He already did.
Too many videos :)
Have you covered the most powerful of the lost colors? The purple dragon?
kinda, I did the underground version
The greatest of the three lost colors. The deep dragon doesn't hold a candle to the true purple dragon.
@@zacharyhawley1693 Someone knows. :) Deeps are not true Purples. 😈
I was thinking of making my character a yellow dragonborn, any ideas of what the lore behind that could be?
One of Bahamuts other siblings created a race of dragons that stand in opposition to Chromatics and Metallics, but, the yellow dragons were far too aggressive and needed to be "cut down to size" so that now, there are no Yellow Dragons, just a few small tribes of yellow Dragonborn who reject their kinship with all other dragons.
@@AJPickett oh good idea! I was just thinking of a kind of lost, coast- desert caravan of a mostly uninhabited, far continent so I guess it could be something like that
You should do lore about the raven queen
She is on my list, probably more of a Warlock patron than an actual deity, at least from the perspective of the world of Toril.
AJ Pickett Absolutely. I just made a warlock with her as a patron. Im working close with my Dm on the story. So a lore story would be awesome rn.
The picture at 10:27 , any idea where I can find it?
That is a Younger Blue Dragon from Pathfinder RPG, it has been altered to look yellow.
@@AJPickett
Thanks AJ. Love your channel.
can You make a list of all the dragons?
I'll probably include that with a wrap up, once I finish off all the dragons.
How many more dragons are there?
*sips coffee* a few.
I thought you said," Hey there hemorrhoids" lol
Is this all for 3e or would it work for 5e aswell?
(Also, trying to find out what a yellow dragonborn’s breath weapon would be is harder than one might think)
Question I’ve been wanting to recreate the stat blocks from the dragon magazine 248 and bring them up to 5th however idk anything about 2e. Any advice besides reskinning a red dragon or such.
Check the D&D website (not the D&D Beyond site), I think there is an article on conversions of editions there.
ahhhm.....i have to say no to the geting-clubbed-by-a-giant-thingy because you would just kick the bucket, cease to be,pink dust, no protection or good juju would help you
I would imagine that a sonic boom or thunder sound would happen any time the yellow dragon decides to dash while flying.
Hey, AJ. You should do the Arboreal dragon.
Sol Stone yep, that's going to happen :)
Lol my main dragon OC I have his name is Simba and he is a yellow dragon, I made him way before I played D&D which was with my cousin with me, he was a Wings Of Fire Allwing and watching this is very cool
Is there stats for Yellow Dragons?
yes. www.reddit.com/r/DnDBehindTheScreen/comments/3c7l3g/draconomicon_yellow_dragons_part_iii_of_the_lost/
Makes me wonder if one of the survivors is hiding as a humanoid salt merchant, since that stuff made serious bank in antiquity and the middle ages. :P XD
06:22 What's the dice roll for that? LOL. :P Can't they get around the "kamikaze" issue just by casting a high-level spell to give themselves temporary invulnerability?
Whoa.... Use the 9th lvl spell, Sanctify the Wicked, on this thing. (It's from 3.5e somewhere.)
From totally selfish,
to totally selfless.
Reverse that personality entirely....
Interesting to think about.
What does a Yellow Dragon read to find contact details ?
Yellow Pages.
*Badoom tish!*
the fact that yellow dragons are anti social and breath salt make me think of them as born to be internet trolls
Thank you so much for the vid I need one
Never knew of yellow dragons very interesting.
Dragons fire beats in my breast. Damn, Yellow Dragons are pricks. Still, dragons are AWESOME!
Yellow dragons are never invited to draconic parties.
Rofl^^
That's exactly why yellow dragons show up at draconic parties. They love how the other dragons get all salty (see what I did there?) by their crashing them.
What would its breath weapon do underwater? Still encrust and immobilize? That doesn’t really make sense, does it? Blindness, still, ok…?
300 feet in six seconds is only 34 mph. Seems kinds slow. Horses can easily outrun that for short distance.
What the numbers is going on?
I'm on holiday for an extra couple of days from my lab job, so, cranking out more vids.
pretty gnar gnar vid
You Saurians and your slang...
1:06 *stares at picture of young Nicol Bolas....
Good series of videos, but too many adverts mate.
Why are the videos good?
mmmm hmmm, kind of a self cancelling observation Mitchell Quinn.
Mitchell Quinn Well, thanks for the feedback, enjoy the free content.
Betray brass dragons... works with giants..
yo. this fits what I need.
and a new color for the half dragons in 3 ....2..............1
i finished on those weeping angel things if you wanted to hear about them?
also have you seen both the total recall films, for a spell weaver plot, the hauser vs quaid theme where a protagonist is an attangonist at the sametime could work quite well with that.
The Dark master oh your right. lol after the super bowl, may have to write out at least a outline for a campaign or something.
The Dark master hells yea bro, lay it on me.
Dan Acton well in the second movie cohagen is refuring to the "evil wife characher"(i can't rember the name) as a dog, in that whole "human tools" trope 😎🐶🙂, so in that sense you could have the party as the spell weavers pets/agents, as they are cohagen and the party are all quaids as it were, doing things to gather the gems memory whipped that their hausers could not. but with a buch of "evil wifes" lurking around who are rivals to the party members as unknown then known handlers. so you get a kind of inevitable doom theme to it.
i thought the yellow dragon also had no wings, as it has an innate connection to the elemental plane of air, or someone says
There are two versions of this dragon type.
@@AJPickett cool
YES DRAGONS!!!
Talking about the calculations of force of impact
Whatanerd XD
Kinda ironic. It's DnD night for my group, I'm busting out a Green Dragon tonight, and was just thinking "how do I make this a little more interesting". They may be fighting a Yellow instead now
Tell them I said Hi :)
So their breath weapon is salt, not pure sodium line the orange dragon?
Combine the Orange and Green's breath weapons and you get Yellow.
Displacing 30,000 lbs? Or 3,000?
everone is a brass dradon here
A breath weapon of salt hmm dragon takes a bite out of another dragon than blasts the wound with its own breath weapon super painful
Not ur fav dragon lol . What are ur sources?
All of them.
love this
This type just screams "Larfleeze!"
the orange light of avarice? Most appropriate for a dragon *nods*
Another video = another good day ;]
AJ Do you have a Twitter account?
Yes, but I rarely check it.
*O*
ok
It seems to me that It will easier For people and you to correspond ther
Eating Brass Dragon eggs?!..................oh my.....
if you want yellow to be a primary color, then where are the magenta and cyan dragons????
it's either that or primary colors are green, blue and red....
One simply doesn't go about mixing dragons to get new color dragons!
It's a giant magical lizard, not a paint palette.
damn two videos in two days, take a break AJ
LOL, this IS me taking a break, I have a four day weekend from my laboratory job, so, I get to make more UA-cam vids for you :)
well then, again thank you Sir. Enjoy your long weekend.
they nasty wow
If you have a natural flight speed and that breath weapon hits you. You're pretty much gonna die from massive fall damage. An interesting prompt though is gathering the lost colors in an attempt to bring back tiamat's sister.
Quite right, I had not considered how that breath weapon would be highly effective against other dragons. Great idea for a secret cult working on a way to bring back a dead god... that gives me LOADS of ideas!
Yellows and oranges are the most similar of dragons.
