No, I find the official dragons to be quite sufficient to what I need for campaigns, though, the Dragon mages of Athas are far more multiversal in my D&D.
My head cannon for song dragons based on absolutely nothing is that male song dragons exist. Male song dragons (and some females, but mostly male) are born without a draconic form. Magic that detects dragons would interpret them as full dragons but they only have a humanoid form. They are still able to propagate the draconic species and a child between them and another dragon is still a dragon too. They also have draconic powers of their lineage. However in dreams or in spirit form (such as in the afterlife or astral projection) they have a draconic form.
So Elminster is not only a incredibly powerful mage (I assume, I haven't read anything on him yet), he slept with the goddess of magic and a dragon. I trust you are going to do a video on him at some point. And yes, the dragon ward around watterdeep is still there and the rod is still held by a gold dragon. I don't know who's idea it was to give the keys to the anti-dragon ward to a dragon but I suppose they trust him. So dose a half dragon not necessarily possess all of the usual draconic traits (cosmetic or otherwise) or dose that just appear to be a trait of half song dragons? I know you said that not possessing any noticeable draconic traits seems to be unique to song dragons. I was just asking if the specific draconic traits inherited, or amount of, varies like you would expect from real world genetics, or stays relatively consistent? Also, how do draconic bloodlines happen if the 5e monster manual entry says that a half dragon is sterile? Do they use magic to make it work or is that entry not entirely accurate?

What if song dragons are just the females of the steel dragons or vice versa what if steel dragons are just the males of the song dragon they sure are a lot of similar characteristics their affinity for human societies and cultures strike me as being a little too similar
Interesting hypothesis, although I personally don't believe that to be the case, since that would imply quite the sexual dimorphism (though not impossible, with such magical beings). However, they MUST a have very similar origins, considering their uncanny resemblance in behaviour, abilities and even appearance (to a lesser extent).
@@pragimus1979 So, a song dragon that can innately polymorph into a female form, can also use arcane magical knowledge to polymorph in a male humanoid form, or a transexual platypus for that matter. As your plot requires, so adjust the parameters of the NPC dragon you are creating, the lore is your guide, not a constraint :)
@@AJPickett aha.... semantics... however I thought it would he a cool story hook for for two dragons coming together and not know the other is a dragon... kinda like Mr and Mrs Smith.

Dragonward still exists in Waterdeep per Dragon Heist. Same lore as before.
Waterdeep still has the dragon ward in Dragon Heist.
Wow. Props to the creative minds that make up these names!
Ah, the ever elusive waifu dragon
Lmao
Thankx AJ
These dragons are getting out of hand...and I love it!
I just picked up another copy of Shirley Rousseau Murphy ‘s book “Nightpool”
Haven’t read it in decades but from there to here is perfect. I love singing dragons.
So you're saying someone just bang a dragon and hybrid was born that sounds awesome humanitarian have dragon hybrid
WOOO! one of my fav dragons
Imagine a Song Dragon as an idol or a magical girl idol?
Could you please do a video on the history of Waterdeep? There's so much to cover and it's the setting of a recent module!
possibly.
I'm curious about hellfire wyrms.
They invented Tinder, originally it was a food delivery concept, hence the name
@@AJPickett That makes sense! But there's also lore speculation that, because of their involvement with the Nine Hells, they play a major role in the ongoing Flame War in the realm of Twitter.
@@epiccthulu The dragons have always kept their fangs in the pulse of cosmic affairs, meanwhile, the Giants are still running message boards on Myspace.
@@AJPickett Meanwhile Elminister does battle with the Zhentarim while the Harpers fight to push back their influence on Facebook. I've heard the Cult of the Dragon have made a push in Vikings War of Clans.
hey, can you put the stat's of what you talk about in the description, so we can have quick access to them in our games?
Use the stats for an adult Copper Dragon, but reduce the hit points by about 50 and the strength should be about 21.
Love more dragon's ,I found out about these from the Forgotten Realms Wiki seeing it here is awesome plus I think there breath weapon is cool Electrified Gas
Official favourite creature of all time
Alrue sounds hilarious and adorable
good video AJ
Thanks Chris :)
Well this gets the Disney seal of.approval
Rare and elusive is right. Your only now making a video on it :)
Yes the dragon ward is still there
What if song dragons are just the females of the steel dragons or vice versa what if steel dragons are just the males of the song dragon they sure are a lot of similar characteristics their affinity for human societies and cultures strike me as being a little too similar
Interesting hypothesis, although I personally don't believe that to be the case, since that would imply quite the sexual dimorphism (though not impossible, with such magical beings). However, they MUST a have very similar origins, considering their uncanny resemblance in behaviour, abilities and even appearance (to a lesser extent).
... what if... a Steel Dragon and Song Dragon mated? How would their relationship start? What would their offspring manifest as, if possible?
They are the same type of dragon
@@AJPickett Wait a minute, according to lore, there are Male Steel Dragons..... or did I read that wrong?
@@pragimus1979 So, a song dragon that can innately polymorph into a female form, can also use arcane magical knowledge to polymorph in a male humanoid form, or a transexual platypus for that matter. As your plot requires, so adjust the parameters of the NPC dragon you are creating, the lore is your guide, not a constraint :)
@@AJPickett aha.... semantics... however I thought it would he a cool story hook for for two dragons coming together and not know the other is a dragon... kinda like Mr and Mrs Smith.
@@AJPickett wait, are steel and song dragons EXACTLY the same thing? Cuz they have very different abilities, and though similar habits, they feel quite distinct
Uwwa I wonder if you made a player character with the sir and dam of a steel dragon and song dragon?
If someone managed to play one of these as player character, perhaps a young song dragon, a bladesinger would be such a good fit for their class.
I'm secretly putting one in my campaign as an adventure guild master, I really hope my friends don't feel like testing her
I enjoy commenting on your videos that i enjoy your videos. 😎
I am starting a new campaign and the party works for merchant navy and operates out of the town's dockside tavern that is run by a song dragon, your videos make setting up NPCs and encounters so much easier.
Hmmm...dragon bards. :-)
breath attack, yelling and screaming lol
Song Dragon Spellsinger Wizard
Thought the same thing
Nice.
Can you do the rattlyr dragon next one of my players just got an egg for one
Cobra Dragon, yep, it's on my list.
Thanks to a deck of many two of my players got dragon eggs at the same time rattlyr and a yellow will be interesting to see how the party raises the to while traveling abord thier galleon
Seamus wuz here!
So who wants to make sound puns?
Nah, I'm not that sharp.
Your request falls on deaf ears.
@@AJPickett
Thank you.
Cool!
I,v just been listening to year of the rogue dragon crazy stuff
What if high level players track and kill one dragon of every kind for a long hard fun game include gems dragons
I basically ran that sort of campaign as a collection of dragon heads was required to open an ancient Giant Crafted Vault.. it did not end well for the player characters, who were all mind wiped by an Illithid Elder Brain and released as babbling simpletons in the surrounding forest.
@@AJPickett sounds like a fun night
Mercury Dragons?
ua-cam.com/video/2B1INbLX-Ro/v-deo.html
Can a male song dragon in human form give birth to children? Or do male half-song dragons exist and how do they exactly work?
What book are the song dragons in?
Monster of Faerun, I actually put the cover art up during the video (you have failed your spot check!) :)
Well wisdom is always my lowest stat XD
Thank you
Me upon seeing notification: Isn't that the type of dragon that likes to cosplay as people? Also didn't Elminster knock one up, leave the resulting child behind to fend for herself, manipulate her into doing his own work by utilizing her hatred for him?
Literally a minute in: Yup. Same type of dragon.
After video: Cool video as always. Still, fuck Elminster, except not literally because the degenerate would probably enjoy it, even if literally any other creature would have hated it and been traumatized by the experience. Same thing for that Crownshield cow.
Look William, when you live for quite a few centuries, you make more than your fair share of mistakes...
Why don't the good aligned dragons just plane shift right before the dragon rage takes hold unless I'm missing something if they're not on the same plane of existence while the comet passes they should be fine then they could just return once it's gone did I miss something did I may be sleep through a lecture
#11 Sh*t, almost first to post/watch. Otherwise, an eternally beautiful, powerful woman who wants to escalate my children to the ranks of demi-gods? Sign me up!
Karaoke Dragons
Those are the Asian Song Dragons, a fringe group of drunken ones that are gaining popularity in The West.
Wasn't there also a quicksilver/mercury dragon? Supposed to be the fastest of dragons
He did a video on Mercury Dragons. I don't recall about the speed. I been watching alot of his Dragon videos and as far as I can tell Astral Dragons are the fastest.
I wonder if they are all female and are actually a rare hybrid of "neither dragon type" (still love the sound of Copper and Silver mix) that now breeds with other male dragons and breeds true (enough) to keep Song dragons as an existing species?
It's not in compendiums but in a few realms novels the few female song dragons have waxed poetic about mated pairs in the past. There was one famous defenders of the innocent pair that died in battle together against a bunch of chromatics well fighting their own succumbing to the "rage". Vangerdahast is told "now that's a real man" by his dragon girlfriend and he harumphs and says would have been easier to do X or Y and walks away with a snort... Love Vangey
