Thank you for another outstanding update, Alan. I have been meaning to tell you how lucky I feel to have found your channel. It is in a class by itself, it is extremely informative, and much appreciated! As someone who has been a mountaineering / Everest / alpine aficianado since I was in middle school, I really look forward to your interviews and updates. Thanks!!!
Thank you Nancy. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and valued by me. I do my best to be factual and objective in an ever polarized world filled with misinformation. I may get it wrong from time to time but not for lack of trying to find the truth. Comments like your keeps me going.
Alan, Thank you so much for your updates! I respect you and your climbing excellence. You give the most in depth information and background in climbing Chomolungma.
Hi Alan, James McManus of Earths Edge in Ireland is climbing without O's on the Tibet side. Hoping to be the first Irish person to climb it without O's. Love the updates.
@@AlanArnetteClimbs he's doing it with a Sherpa and himself as far as I know. He posted an update today saying he's not getting his visa until the 24th April. Not ideal.
Thanks. He has to be on some team's permit, even if it's just him and a Sherpa. Also, if he's planning on the Tibet side, they now require using supplemental oxygen.
Great update 👍 wish you would leave the route maps up a little longer than 1-2 seconds btw. maybe missed it but who pays for the ice fall doctors? Is it a percentage from each team? I would imagine.? Thanks Alan love your podcasts👍👍🙏
Thanks! The Icefall Doctors are part of the SPCC that is funded through the climbing permit fees ($11k per foreigner). You can see the maps, routes and more in my blog at www.alanarnette.com/blog/2024/04/14/everest-2024-weekend-update-april-14-icefall-woes-fewer-climbers/
Thank you so much for another update 😊 might I suggest you get a leveys microphone or a shotgun microphone? It would make the audio quality so much better! You could also look up "audio compressing" :) looking forward to your next update 👍👍
Anonymity. I've found it interesting that almost anything Everest elicits a strange reaction, sometimes resulting in unkind comments. I'm not sure what they think they are accomplishing other than making themselves look poor. Not a big deal to me after all these years.
Hi Alan thanks for the info. I have been reading books and watching videos about all this stuff for years now and have decided at the age of 68 to try the Everest base camp trek maybe sep this year or april next year. I have noted that there seem to be a lot of treking companies out there. Can you offer advice for the trek and also any recommendation on treking company.
Congratulations on a great goal. I can certainly help. The best was is through my Summit Coach service at www.summitcoach.org or send me an email via my website
Another reason the permit counts are lower this year, is the economy. Many jobs have been cutting staff, and many people can't afford to indulge in expensive hobbies at the moment.
There's still plenty of people with plenty of money. Hopefully the craze is just wearing off some. Everest climbing has received a lot of negative press the last few years.

I must second this! Superb content! Thank you so much.
@@AlanArnetteClimbs How about comments like mine?
Alan,

Thank u as always for ur awesome Everest coverage 👍🏼
Thanks Alan, great update! Looking forward to a safe and successful climbing season!
Appreciate this. Maybe if the numbers are down, so will the incidents. Hope so.
Thanks for the update. Look forward to your Everest reports every year!!
Thanks D !
Thank you, I really enjoy the updates on Mount Everest.
Appreciate you. Thanks
Thank you!
You bet!

Love the updates.
Thanks. Will try to follow him. Any idea which team he is on?

@AlanArnetteClimbs he's in for a shock I would think. It will be a massive oversight which would be horrendous considering his goal.

Yes good reporting safe year so far good to see on Annapurna no deaths or avalanches.
Thank you so much for another update 😊 might I suggest you get a leveys microphone or a shotgun microphone? It would make the audio quality so much better! You could also look up "audio compressing" :) looking forward to your next update 👍👍
Thanks, but can you more specific? In what way? Echo, fuzzy, too soft, too loud?
I hear you loud and clear.
Thank you for your great video as always, but have you considered getting a new microphone? quality is really not great

EXCITING!!
Yes! Thank you Dr. Fronk-en-steen :)
I can't imagine what would prompt someone to leave an unkind comment. Am really enjoying your updates.

Unkind comments? They have to be bots or AI. Love your spirit, Alan. Even if I had no interest in climbing, I'd still be here just for that!
Yeah, such is the world.
Liked the Everest Inc talk. Maybe in the off season more book talks?
As I find ones of interest, 100%! Thanks for the suggestion.

Try Ian Taylor Trekking - tell him Kurt P Sent you (: Namaste 🙏🏼
it's April 14, 2044?
In my world!! It's just a typo; relax :-)

yup but I want to believe inexperienced clients now understand they could die after the 18 deaths last year, most were preventable
