this ranking is full of nonsense. i live in Germany and no one would say that Bielefeld is better than Munich or Cologne. For example Freiburg, Baden-Baden or Würzburg, are better places than Berlin.

Freiburg and bermen are cheap and best place to live in Germany. Salaries are also higher here

Fantastic and very helpful. Extremely proud to learn Darmstadt came in at the number 1 city in which to live in Germany. I lived there many decades ago as a military dependent. Lived in Darmstadt for four years. Have the fondest of memories. Both the other military families, as well as the locals, were the absolute best. Created friendships then that still exist today. Cambrai Fritsch Kaserne and Lincoln Village housing, where we lived, are both gone now. Part of my heart and spirit are still in Darmstadt.

I lived in Germany for several years in multiple cities. This ranking is absolutely BS. How can Munich and Hamburg rank so low??? Many pieces of information are downright wrong (e.g. number of pêople speaking English). The atrocious pronunciation of the cities' name' should be a red flag.

@@WealthEngineering If you make enough money, because these places are very expensive: Munich or Hamburg. Berlin, but only if you are young, an artist with leftist views. But even Berlin is quite expensive. Less expensive: Köln and Düsseldorf.

I am a bit surprised. Nobody in Germany would say that Jena or Bremen or Karlsruhe are better cities for life than Frankfurt or Cologne or Dusseldorf. I see the qualities of smaller cities, but it can't be that the fresh air and safety in the streets would be decisive qualities.

Cologne - yes /international on media / party city/ great location/ moderate to pricey.
Stuttgart - yes / not really international mainly the "detroit of Germany without the bankruptcy/pricey
Munich - yes/ international and Germany's most expensive city to live / pricey
Berlin - yes / international and the capital / very very chaotic like NYC/ moderate to pricey
Bremen - no / not really international outside of the port / nice downtown/ moderate

    • @Kinlever

Yeah I also was surprised by "Dresden having LGBT friendly quality". As far as I know, Dresden is a sort of beautiful, but still quiet and basically provincial city. Once I waited for the flixbus there next to the train station, and for like 50 minutes nobody passed by me, I was completely alone standing. It was like a desert.

Nuremberg is big and very much a lively city - not sure if you were asleep or high. The only large city with a complete intact medieval core still surrounded by moat walls and a castle atop. With a metro area of 1.4 million it's one of Germany's top 11 metro regions and has a large perecentage of PhDs in engineering, medical, and stem sciences. I lived there for 10 years and heard more english speakers than in Stuttgart, Bremen, and Hannover. Cost of living is pricey, but not as bad as Munich - great airport - anywhere in Europe or Turkey and it's train station is one of the largest in Germany being centrally located along 4 autobahns that convene on the city.
