Plastic Love(1984)/ Mariya Takeuchi (I know it's only plastic (fake) love, I'm just only playing games of love) Lyrics and Music composed by Mariya Takeuchi Arranged and Produced by Tatsuro Yamashita From her 6th original album "Variety", released on November 19, 1984 in Japan. As the twelfth single released on March 25, 1985. (English translation with a rough meaning of Japanese Lyrics) Suddenly , You kiss me and you look at me with a hot gaze, But I hope you don't derail my planned love program. I put the timing of encounter and farewell to you into the program. It will end naturally, when the time comes, so Don't hurry! Since the time when I was hurt by the loss of true love with him, I started living the opposite life of ordinary people I sleep during the day and are active at night. While dancing all night at the disco that is popular now, I found this magical way for me to fall in love without getting hurt. So, I'm sorry! Never really love me, please. I think love is just only a game. If we enjoy the moment, that's fine, Don't ask for more. I hide my closed heart, The flashy dresses and shoes I dress up are the cherished friends of mine that support my heart in lonely time. But it's ironic, All the guys who invite me are always like him, the guy I really fell in love with. It always overlaps with my memories of him. So, if I drop my glass and burst into tears, Don't ask me why. When I fall asleep in the car on the highway back to home late at night Just as the light of halogen lights shines in the city at midnight. I don't care If someone whispers that “She is an ice-cold hearted woman.” Don't worry! I'm just playing games of love I know that's plastic (fake) love Dance to the plastic (fake)beat Another morning comes I'm just playing games of love I know that's plastic love Dance to the plastic beat Another morning comes (Original Recording Musicians) Mariya Takeuchi : Vocals, Background vocals Tatsuro Yamashita : Electric guitar, Acoustic piano, Keyboards, Percussion , Background vocals Kohki Ito :Bass Jun Aoyama :Drums Yasuharu Nakanishi : Electric piano Ken Muraoka, : Tenor Saxophone Emie Watts, : Tenor Saxophone solo Shunzo Sunahara : Baritone Saxophone Shin Kazuhara, Hitoshi Yokoyama, : Trumpet Tadanori Konakawa, Yoshio Oikawa : Trombone Kato Group : Strings Taeko Ohnuki : Background vocals Recording Studios : Onkio Haus, CBS Sony Roppongi Studio Tokyo Japan & A&M Studio Japan. Correct answer. Don't worry about the lyrics. The video is also an afterthought, so you can meditate on it. Jun Aoyama's drums, Taeko Onuki's outro chorus and Susumu Sudohara's horn section. It's a superb, miraculous vintage sound. Within a few days you will also be possessed by the sound of Tatsuro's SPARKLE.
Having originally heard this without any idea what the lyrics meant (except the parts in English), I find the subtitles distracting and decided to ignore them.
That said, this English cover version's lyrics flow better with the song (IMO). I'm not sure how well they capture the spirit of the original Japanese lyrics but, perhaps, someone who speaks Japanese can weigh in: ua-cam.com/video/vunm-W-ovLc/v-deo.html
Japan took the Great Feel of the Western 70's Radio Disco Pop hits and revived the genre into the Huge City Pop movement that has been strong in Japan. This song is a Classic that will live on long after all of us are Gone. The musicianship is Top Top Shelf. The bass lines are Fire.
Im form china, but i love city pop as hell man, and i really think you guys can reac midnight pretenders, cuase this song is something different,is very advance guard at that age
Did you know that Maria's husband is Tatsuro Yamashita? His songs "Ride on time" and "Christmas eve" are essential to any discussion of city pop. Both songs have a refreshing feel that you won't find anywhere else, so be sure to give them a try.
You guys need to listen to Remember Summer Days by Anri, actually the whole album its called "Timely!" and is such a good gem if you wanna continue with the city pop songs, even tho there are so many good artists
I'm probably too late for you to see this but it would be nice if checked out a cover of Sugar Babe's song called "Down Town" performed by Juice=Juice [ ua-cam.com/video/7xD8ORNRtDI/v-deo.html ]. Also Juice=Juice did a cover of Plastic Love a few years ago. [ ua-cam.com/video/f6Nuvg3RuEw/v-deo.html ]
Mariya Takeuchi will forever be the queen of city pop
Its crazy when a song is about one thing but makes you feel different emotions
Have you reacted to "dress down" it's a good city pop
That's probably the first city pop song for a lot of people (myself included),
Thanks for the reaction!
They made a retro music video for this song like nearly 40 years after it was released.
Is that so? That's why I don't remember seeing this video until now!
Mariya Takeuchi andTatsuro Yamashita = legends!
