- Recorded next to the river in the Great Smoky Mountains National Forest, April 2nd, 2009.
This song came to me after my grandmother passed away, March 1998. I first sang it at her funeral. This song is on the drum, I ask it be used in a respectful way. - Розваги
I guess you can't make everyone happy. I'm Cherokee not Lakota, if you noticed there are no links to purchase my music! I'm the lead singer for a southern singing group but I felt this song wasn't about me so on the day I filmed this I didn't want to show my face. I've been singing and dancing since the early 1970's just for the enjoyment but I have won a few contests, I've never been called a culture vulture.
NativeWire Are you Eastern Band Cherokee Indian? I live in North Carolina now. I'm originally from Chicago which was named after a cheif of the plains.
I love this.. beautiful clear chanting next to the stream .. how special and sacred . Thank you for, sharing it.

Blackfoot as in Saponny? That mixture is quite common. I have Tsalagi/Saponny ancestors. I am grateful that they are trying to revive the Tutelo Languge.

I'm an animal rescuer, they find me, some come to me for a peaceful way to pass, some stay with me for many yrs, all my fur babies are misfits, stories to horrible to share, but at least I can give them comfort for whatever time they have here on earth, lost some beautiful animals, but always carried everyone one of them with me for life. Very proud to say I have helped them come into this world and have had to sit and stay with them until they pass. We call our house the isle of misfit toys. I had a hybrid wolf for 17yrs nobody wanted my BEST FRIEND will never forget him, RIP Moe.

Yay, even accurate hand drum! Good to see people keeping tradition :)
Thank you for the beautifully, well done song to your grandmother! My great great grandmother, Sarah was full-blooded Cherokee. She lived to be 94 years young, I say young because she had a strong sense of vitality and a youthful spirit! She was blind in her later years but still loved having company, and could still whip you up a four course meal every time you went to visit her! She lived several hours drive away from us, but we visited her often! I can still smell her large backyard apple orchard, coming down her long driveway, lined with big beautiful oak trees.. I look back all those years ago and I smile, in my eyes, she was as strong as an oak, and beautiful inside and out, I miss her, and cant help but think of what an amazing reunion it will be when we all get to heaven singing joyfully! GOD BLESS! ❤
Beautiful..Uwoduhi. Everytime I go over into Western North Carolina everything about it is magical. The feeling. The mountains ..Those rivers. The waterfalls. I found part of my family there. That land is Tsalagi

I miss him greatly but know that he is no longer in pain, and has completed his journey to another stage of life...Thank you for posting this memorial, Nativewire...

Cherokee hold a special place in my heart given my grandmother was full Cherokee. She once told me that nature was here before us so we must honor the laws of nature and we are of man which has its own separate law. I’m very spiritual and am aware my ancestors were deeply in tune with their spirit amongst nature and the creator
Just beautiful! The mans voice is sorrowful and moving. That you for sharing

Thank you so much for giving me my heritage to me, for my Great Grandmother Was Full Blooded Cherokee, and she married my great grandfather and had 3 children, I am little over 1/16th with a little bit of Sioux from my fathers side. I am honored to be close to the Great Spirit, and a child of nature. The beauty in the Mother Earth is within every Native American, as is the creators wisdom. As the prints left behind were no prints, but lore, legend, and passing on through the rites of passage.
I found this video on a day and at a time when it was needed I love it and it helped ease the pain I was feeling at hearing of the passing of a family member wado for sharing this
I am Cherokee Nation (west) and I have never been to the Smokey mountains. But somewhere in that area there is a mountain named after my Cherokee grandfather. Your song by the river transported me there and helped me feel connected to his ancestors. Wado. My grandfather was made an honorary Lakota Chief after WWll and given an eagle feather war bonnet; so I have old photos of my Cherokee grandfather in a Lakota headdress. Some traditionalists say this is not 'correct' but for him it was, as he bridged many worlds. I believe we are all now rainbow bridges of many cultures coming together and sharing our gifts with each other. Creating a new/old way which will carry us forward. Spirit is never stagnant; always changing and reforming the cosmos of which we are part.
I'm Cherokee and I than you for posting this song we listen to this all time on the rez
