I love those old-school slotted deep dish aluminum wheels! Seeing those wheels... I'm having flashbacks to my misspent youth. I'm curious why you didn't just mount the wheels on the van and let them spin like a "poor man's lathe" while you held the polishing rag. Did I miss something?
@@ImprobableGarage This is how we polished them back in the day. Don't be tempted to spray the wheels with varathane to keep them shiny though. They'll look great for about 3 weeks until the varathane starts flaking off. Then it's a bitch of a job to get the rest of the varathane off. Please don't ask my how I know this...lol

Your not missing a step, you need to keep polishing. the "black" is impurities being drawn out of the metal. that tint will go away.
Good to know! Next time they are due for a polish I'll spend more time on it.
