- As promised and finally here's a short test and demo video of the DIY L-ported subwoofer enclosure I did the other week. Pioneer Champion Series TS-W311D4 subwoofer wired into 2 Ohm in a 2.56 cubic feet box tuned to 31Hz. Driven by the Team Lightning Lab CL1000.1D Class D mono subwoofer amplifier. Dude great job! nice budget setup. Big box tuned to 31 hz for the smooth low freqs.. Sub with small power but sounds clean nd great on 400 rms power. For car audio noobs dont expect this sub to shake everything outside the car.. İts a decent sub comparing to price/quality!

İ totally agree but nowadays its really hard to get a decent 2nd hand t line subs.. Also depends on the avaibility in ur area.

Hey brother how you doin. Box sizing is really on the user's preference. You will need to use a calculator for box sizing to suit your listening needs. The factory recommended size still very good but following their suggestion isn't customizing anymore.

Sounds kick ass. What do you prefer ported or non ported for rock music. Have a Hertz HCP 1DV Mono D Class amplifier and a couple older Sony sub woofer speakers. The Sony XS L104P5B and the XS L124P5B. Would any of these two work well non or ported design. Really impressed with the speaker used in this video. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Marcus. If there is enough space for the enclosure, I will go for ported ones. Will only resort to sealed ones if there is very limited vehicle space.

Hello Derrick, I like to tune the box as far as the available space can provide. Also, I am too afraid in tuning them high, they might sound bad.

Man you build some nice boxes and you make it look so easy. building my fist box now tune to 33HZ for American Bass XR12D2, I hope it comes out half nice as yours. Also where you get that tool for drill that keeps it straight?
Thanks Jim. I appreciate the feedback. Drill guide is available on most online marketplaces. You can also use welding magnet angle as drill guides but you need longer drill bit for that.

Hello, nice build, I have one question why did u tuned it at 31 hz, in that diagram with db, the black line should be between 3 and -3 db ?? or should be close to 0? I dont understand how u make the readings, if u can explain , ty , and keep up the good work.
Hello Defddd, thanks for the feedback and that is a good question: It's factory Fs is 43Hz, and according to theory one must build and tune a box near the subwoofer's Fs. But it won't hurt to tune down way lower. So here it goes.

There are subwoofers with at least 700w RMS rating. They will be very loud for your needs.

Hello John, the Pioneer TS-W311D4 is a very flexible subwoofer. Can be used to either ported or sealed applications.

Any brand of amp that outputs a lot of power like at least 1500w RMS
You could go with less than 1500W I have a similar pioneer with 1200W peak, but only 300W is the rated power... that’s all you need. I have 160W RMS running it, and it’s okay. Would be better with 300W, but don’t blow it up trying to put 1200 or 1500W through it.

Good question. Calculate box size and port area to tune it down to 32Hz.
@@chrclmnky Some people I have met and also people on car audio forums advise not to tune below Fs. What are your views on that?
@@kaisharma5688 that an old school theory that applies to old subwoofers. Nowadays subs are literally flexible. Out of the box subs has higher Fs that gets lower to like 5-6 Fs down the factory Fs after a few breaking in.

I knew about the break in period that Fs goes down a little after some use. But still 32Hz is way down.
I am not complaining. I'll be more than happy if the spare sub plays down that low. I'll get a new enclosure made for the sub and check the results.

Near perfect, the factory free-air resonance of this subwoofer is 43Hz so 40Hz is not far. This box is tuned 31-33Hz, which is way too far from its Fs, it dipped a bit when reaching in these frequencies.

nalilito lang po kasi kami kung gagayahin namin yung desinyo ng company or itong 31hz tune box.
Kasi gusto ng Father ko yung Pioneer's recommended box kasi mas maliit ang box / less space.
Pero ang gusto ko naman is low and deep bass gaya nitong denisinyo mong box.

I suggest to use an enclosure designing software. WinISD is for free for Windows.

Air chuffing in the port area? Maybe the port is too small if it is chuffing or coughing air.
