Dave like Red Simpson, Red Sovine and others during the 60's and 70's, was renowned for his druck-driving anthems which became a staple of country music. This tune was one of his very best with the typical driving beat and guitar reverb. Dave also was a very proficient ballad singer as his musical legacy shows.
The king of the trucking songs. His deep bass voice and that bouncy electric guitar made his signature sound, also recording with legendary pianist Hargus 'Pig' Robbins.
I actually remember this. Damn I'm old....lol
Always love his voice
Nice request...I'd forgotten about Ol' Dave Dudley. Him and Tom T. Hall did a duet, "Day Drinkin'" that was really fun. I had dreams of being a trucker-man...joined the USMC as a truck driver but that occupation soon came to an end. After wrecking a 5-ton full of troops, they determined I had no depth perception and pulled my license. :-(
Was that at Camp Schwab around 40 years ago?
@@tsmith2736 Lol, close...it was Camp Lejeune about 35 yrs ago.
Well, then you weren’t the only one.
@@tsmith2736 Lol...love to hear your story!
@David Emswiler The Dr. Dave life-story just got sooooo much better!!
Dudley‘s Six Days on the Road is another Rockabillyish song that’s a lot fun. It probably started the gear-jamming songs trend in country music that peaked with Eastbound and Down.
The CB craze around the late 70's or early 80's also added to the popularity of truck driving songs or vice versa. We bought a van in 1980 and had the hookup for a CB installed right away. As T Smith said, some of those songs started the trend. Remember Wolf Creek Pass?
morning Don my mom was kind of fond of truckers, spend a lot of time as a kid sitting on the doghouse in cabovers allways a 8-track of Daves in truck HAKAD

Good morning Don, haven't been on lately internet problems. Great song! Have another one from Chris Ledoux called $5 fine 🙂
@Frank Novack Good to see you in here, Frank. Glad your internet is back up. I'll add that song to the list, but you know the routine--gonna take a little while for me to get to it since the list is kinda long. Thanks, and keep on keepin' on.
Love them old truck driving songs. " Hello, I'm a Truck, Giddy up go,Six days on the Road, The Girl on the Billboard."
The Girl on the Billboard is worth a ride....Del Reeves.
In the past I have done many 12 pack road trips. It is a form of measuring miles and time based on consuming your beverage of choice!
Hadnt heard it but typical Dave Dudley. Good call Dan thanks Don. Now I dont feel so guilty about Ashleys song. lol
Although I haven't had booze of any kind in over 29 years, I think we're all two six packs away.
