The reason he doesn't seem as happy as some might expect is because someone did die. If the Thai diver didn't die he could be more happy.

      Richard's World Traveler
The man was a sacrifice to the mountain and his life was given in exchange for the boys' protection.
Then 1 hour after the last person was rescued and the rest of the team were exiting the cave, the main pump in the furthest chamber failed and in 1/2 an hour the water rose from knee deep to nearly chest deep. They were forced to abandon their equipment and exit the cave immediately
Seems the Spirit held off the water as long as needed.
The people in this region of Thailand are indigenous to there and are animists believing a spirit inhabits everything.
These are things they believe and for them in their lives are true

The Thai culture is absolutely not a hugging and cheek kissing one. This lady hugging a stranger means she gave out her deepest love from the bottom of her heart. The box of Ferrero is not a box of chocolates, it means she wishes him all gold in his life (not necessarily physical gold).
You saved 13 people, you and the other people in the team. But you also showed the world that we are strong together, and that humans together can do things that are heroic. We need to get humanity back into our lifes.

Great job catching John Volanthen at the market for a very respectful show of gratitude and having him speak on camera.
A truly humble man he eschews the spotlight as so clearly evident here. As such he has refused sit downs and interviews leaving his diving partner to speak for them... though we the public who held the fate of the team in our prayers for two weeks were eager and now grateful to hear from him directly

I replay over and over that precious moment at the beginning when she hugs him in tears of gratitude. OMG so beautiful! Everything about this is so wonderfully life-affirming. Honestly I wish we'd all gently pull back from that "hero" word just a bit and simply relish in our gratitude for all that was done - those divers really were simply doing what they were trained to do, and clearly they're all very satisfied with the outcome (with the notable exception of dear Saman, of course). Namaste to all!

@@ths.6935 The only ones that need to open their minds are the Thai govmt and Navy SEALs now.
They were worried about even the slightest danger to the children from the plan to get them out, but didn't give the same courtesy to their own divers.
They saw clearly where they lacked experience in cave diving relative to the British hobbyists - and that lack cost Saman his life.
Once is a mistake and understandable.
Now it's on them if it happens again for lack of experience, so hopefully they get some of these people back to train their divers properly and encourage them to practice the skill regularly, that's what gave these British guys the edge in the crisis.

They just want to be great cave divers.

True, but also he would have risked his life for nothing too.
That's the whole thing about him and his friends in the cave diving community that came to help out in the rescue effort.
This kind of 'sport' is so insanely extreme and dangerous, but they love it for the sake of it alone.
It's like they got told Christmas came early when they got the call about the cave rescue, they got to go cave diving and help people at the same time.
The only real risk to them was failing to help the boys (ie the boys die attempting to get them out) and getting thrown into a Thai prison, which according to the documentary on it was a real risk at the time.

Calm, calculated, thoughtful and disciplined where it might have been so easy to fall into and become dominated by panic, anger, frustration, resentment and fear; willing to pull together despite any superficial or substantial differences in order to see a crisis through step by step to the end; making command decisions; saying "Thank you, but no." where necessary; saving so many lives in so many ways; causing a ripple effect across the world in so many hearts and minds; inspiring others to want to better prepare to be there for others in their own lives, in their own ways; doing what so many who are so quick to jump at every opportunity, and in front of every camera in order to "rise up", (But not really.) and declare themselves and their accomplices heroes are so very loathe to do, ~ pull together with the other and get the thing done effectively, efficiently, and in the best, most considerate, reasoned, responsible, compassionate way possible motivated by the knowing that life is precious.
Yes, you - ALL of you, including EM for his efforts if not his humility, ARE and will forever remain heroes in our eyes.
While we are truly sorry for where the attention and declarations of heroism have been uncomfortable for those involved in and supporting this rescue, and while we are truly grateful for the humility expressed and felt by many, we won't apologize for recognizing and celebrating heroism when, and where we find it, and we've found it in YOU.

    The stats:
Contrary to media reports one diver took one boy out which is why it took three days.
Jason Mallinson dived four boys out.
Chris Jewell dived three boys out
Rick Stanton dived three boys out and located the boys with:
John Volanthen who also dived three boys out.
These four men created world diving history which I’m sure will never be surpassed.
I’m a UK diver (not caves) and can say having dived wrecks this was an incredible feat of bravery and organisation and from all concerned.
Unless you’ve dived wrecks or caves you can’t appreciate just how dangerous it is. I can’t even imagine the pressure of diving a sedated child out of a cave🤔
    Well done guys.

    • @mnomadvfx
      @mnomadvfx Рік тому

You forgot about the 2 Australians, doctor Richard Harris and veterinarian Craig Challen who they convinced to come and administer drugs to the boys to keep them safely sedated during the final rescue operation.
Both of which dived to the other end of the cave for this which is no small feat by itself.
Without their participation it never would have been possible to dive the boys out such a great distance with zero training to stop them from panicking underwater.
Considering that kind of thing had never been done before, and the possible risk of backlash from the Thai govmt if the boys died in transit they all took a lot of risk even beyond the dangers of diving back and forth to the other end of the cave.

Those people who are recognized by other people as heroes are true heroes even though they are not calling themselves as heroes.

      Your god was not involved.
Or the boys would not have been down there.
It was human love and courage that saved the boys.
      " Prayers " had no effect !

The current events such as mini wars , conflicts, dooms, famine, cruel, violence, catastrophe, disastrous, despair and hopeless people , happens in many countries around the world. But this is a lesson case in Thailand that , you can find love, kindness, economically life', abundance and calm. In this event, the kind experienced rescuers from many countries came to help the 13 boys, they extremely devoted themselves for helping them. You can see every one enjoyed working. People also supported and donated various dishes of food and drinks, facilities and shelters in the forest for the helpers. The helpers found friendship, fraternity , and joined the people to be the unity on the hard jobs . We can imagine that if we are kind to each other, we will have the happiness world to live in together .
