    Great video. Thanks for the tip on peeling the leather off and letting it finish drying on the regular tray.

      I do that with ketchup leather and tomato leather! Also sweet potato that Inouree to turn into powder. Really, any thing I puree first. It really helps.

    If you don't want to use karo syrup of corn syrup you can use Lyle's Golden Syrup. Whole foods and Trader Joe's caries it

      Hmmmmm; I wonder about Agave syrup and Maple syrup. I have never seen Lyle’s for sale anywhere I have lived, which is in 10 different states. We don’t have either Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s near us. Diabetics can have Agave and Maple syrup.

    I appreciate your sharing this. Nice to get ideas for things I would not have ever thought of. Thanks for the Karo syrup and oiling the trays tip. Awesome! I also want to "Thank You" for the coupon for Simply Earth. I have been working my way thru their online course. So very helpful to know the right safe way to use essential oils. I have been receiving the monthly boxes and they are wonderful. Nice to get them with $10 off.

    I appreciate your tips on dehydrating. I have so many jars of Apple butter left over from last year. So I made it into leather. There amazing. I didn't have the leather trays. So I used parchment paper. Big mistake. The leather stuck to the paper and I had to lightly wet it to get it off. I had to put back in the dehydrator to finish. I wonder if spraying the paper or using wax paper would work better. Someday I'll buy the proper trays.

    I’ve never heard about adding the Karo syrup. I used to make fruit leather for my girls and just last month, when I got a new dehydrator, DD2 asked me to let her know when she can buy some applesauce and strawberries so I can make some for her to take to work for her lunch.

  • @Brineytoes

    Thanks for the tip about adding Karo syrup. I think I definitely want to make fruit leathers again; it’s been a long time since I did. My grandkids loved them, and I have a young friend who has a young child. They also have a new baby, so maybe I will send some powders along,too. I wish I had them when my kids were babies and we traveled with them, but no way to keep baby food cold then. For me, granola bars like the Kind bars with lots of nuts. So good! Trail mix for the Hubs, too.

    Glad I watched this video tonight, because you mentioned not to dehydrate eggs. I have seen a couple people on youtube who did indeed dehydrate eggs and make egg powder. I was just telling my husband that we need to do that. I guess not.

      There's a lot of people on UA-cam who do things that they shouldn't. It's unfortunate because it can really mislead innocent people just looking for guidance. Be sure to get a good book, like the ones I showed, and you'll be on the right track. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. It's really important to me to get good, approved and safe information out there.

    I am right now waiting for Amazon to deliver my new food hydrator! What an excellent time for this video!! I have one question for you on this video, did you say after you drain the fruit you rinsed it off also? Thanks for this great video! 👩‍🍳

    • @2leelouCreates

    I have the same Nesco Dehydrator and use it to make Beef Jerky but then I have to spend hours cleaning the racks I am trying to find something to make the cleanup easier.

    • @2leelouCreates
      @2leelouCreates  2 місяці тому

      When the racks are messy, I use a Rubbermaid type of bin that I put the racks in with soapy water. I set the bin in the tub. Then I let them sit and soak for a while. After they soaked for a while, they clean up really easily. Then give them a good rinse, shake the excess water off, and pop them back on the dehydrator and turn it on, and let it do the drying. Then they'll be clean, dry, and ready to use again.

    Hi, I have a question, the ratio for the Fruit Leathers. Is it equal parts Applesauce to other fruit, or 2 parts (1 can) Applesauce to 1 part (0.5 can) of other fruit? I'm a newbie to dehydrating. I do watch the Purposeful Pantry, but never really thought about the Leathers. Thank you for all your knowledge and help ☺

    • @2leelouCreates
      @2leelouCreates  2 роки тому

      In this video I used 1/2 can of fruit to 1 can of applesauce. At other times I've used less or I've used more. There is no specific rule just whatever you want to do at the time.

    Once the fruit leather rolls are done, do you refrigerate them?

    • @2leelouCreates
      @2leelouCreates  2 роки тому +1

      No, I wrap them in parchment paper or plastic wrap and keep them in a zip top bag. They don't have to be refrigerated.

    What if I’m allergic to apples? I’m actually allergic to 6 fruits altogether (apples, avocado, cherries, lemon, pineapple & strawberries). Is there another fruit I could use for a “stretcher?”

    • @2leelouCreates
      @2leelouCreates  3 місяці тому

      You can combine any fruits. I use apple sauce because it tends to be cheaper and isn't a strong taste, so the finished product tasts like the other fruit. Maybe pears pureed might be a good option.

    How do you store your fruit (not the leathers) after it is dehydrated?

    • @2leelouCreates
      @2leelouCreates  2 роки тому +1

      I store them in a canning jar with a tight fitting lid.
