Two things I have learned about carbon fiber this year... 1: You can make some really incredible guitars with it. 2: You can make some really terrible submersibles with it.
The guitars are just a terrible although they won't kill you. Carbon Fiber is great for many things..........guitars are NOT one of them. There is a very distinct reason why carbon fiber is not popular amongst KNOWLEDGEABLE musicians. Turns out resonance from wood is great.
@@benburnett8109 Wood is SO last century! The best selling point for wood is that it's so inconsistent! LOL! You always have dead spots on your fretboard on a wood neck due to the varying density of wood so each guitar has it's sweet spots and dead spots so you keep buying more, LOL! Carbon fiber OTOH is very consistent and predictable from one guitar to the next which gets a little boring since all the notes ring out consistently and equally well!
The problem with never seeing these in a guitar store is you can't give them a go beforehand. They're really cool, would love to give some of these a go.

@@emeraldguitars Thanks. Hopefully I'll find an Emerald retailer close to me. I was so tempted to order one of your guitars with the black Fridazy sale... but at this point there's no way I could manage it.
It's cool! The Amicus model is our cross between a guitar and mandolin, allows you the range and width of the guitar with the sonic capabilities of the mandolin in one instrument.
It sounds good, yeah. It's pretty loud compared to most Weissenborns, though it won't reach dobro volume levels. A lot of bottom end to it, and different right hand positions get you a lot of tones. Sounds good plugged in (I have a magnetic and a piezo pickup) The bonus of the carbon fibre build is that you can put it in tunings that would most likely reduce a conventional Weissenborn to splinters. Lap steels don't really vary much in playability in my experience - as long as the fret markers are in the right place and the string spacing is sensible they're all a much of a muchness. This is a big instrument and that took a little bit of getting used to, but it has a neat 24 fret range which makes playing high up (and false harmonics) a lot more straightforward than on a 21/22 fret instrument - @@benburnett8109
I know the have a hybrid electric guitar with the fishman fluence's, but it would be cool if they release a solid body electric guitar made out of these materials. A very thin and resistant body would be great, similar to an Ibanez S, or maybe a headless electric with 24 frets and what not.

I honestly didn't think so. They're certainly 'innovative', they do look cool and I totally get the practicality of carbon, the stability etc. But ... they just don't sound like wood, I mean they aren't wood of course, but every one he played sounded like what it is - carbon. For me they seem rather quiet, a bit toppy with little bottom end response, and often a bit abrasive, where as I like a smoother fuller sound. I thought the big 5 string bass might knock it out the park, but that one sounded wallowy and floppy and had no definition at all. I love the way they look, and I'd love the stability, but for me the bottom line is 'do they sound great', and I just didn't think so. Maybe it'd be different in the room ? But I'll never know because there's no way I can make it over to Ireland to find out. Think I'll be sticking to good old wood 🎸
@@putridabomination Maybe true, but there's less point anyway in using carbon for a solid body.
