  • How to Assemble a Compound Light Microscope Introduction to the Microscope - Dr. Elaine Ingham gives a lesson in assembling a microscope from taking it out of the box to plugging it in.
    Dr. Ingham is a world-renowned soil biologist who pioneered many of the currently used biological soil amendment techniques and pioneered the testing of soil microbial life as an indicator of soil and plant health. Dr. Ingham is the Chief Scientist at the Rodale Institute. She is the founder of the Sustainable Studies Institute and the Soil Foodweb Inc. soil testing labs. Dr. Ingham is the key author of the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture's Soil Biology Primer. She has been the mentor of numerous soil scientists and practitioners of ecologically balanced landscape design, and has helped farmers all over the world to grow more resilient crops by understanding and improving their soil life.

    I know she will never see this, but I know a trick on starting threads like that. Here for everybody: get everything lined up close and then turn the male part backwards-until you feel or hear the click. Stop. Then turn proper into the threads and engage will be nearly instant.
    The click is when the ends of both threads pass each other whilst being pushed together. That sets them up for a fast engagement. If you don't find the click then you're not mating the leading threads together in the first place, try for better alignment and keep back turning until you find it. This is most helpful with threaded plastics and other soft materials where cross-threading could most easily occur.

    I bought a trinocular scope amd put it together, but there was no packing list. I have a little blue lens in a tiny zip-loc...does that go under the plate, facing the light?
