Fun fact: Jack said that when he wrote this song, the idea behind it was about looking back at when you were at the lowest point in your life and how you had nothing going for you but how you kinda miss those days because you have so many memories about those times!
Sometimes we fall in love with the blue hour without realizing it....we hate when we are down but then when we finally get back in track after getting out of that depressive episode....we start to miss that time....its toxic love.
Nah if your best memories were when you were at your lowest you haven't been to true rock bottom. He's specifically speaking about being young and in the turbulent tussle of the ever changing world. When you're young and lost its mystical and adventurous to be lost and still have motivation, drive, I dunno testosterone.

it represents all of the things i’ve lost, earned, etc. it represents what i’ve become. it brings me nostalgia. I used to listen to this song everyday last year, I was so happy back then... now my life is a whole mess, but the memories make things a lot easier and so does this song.

this song reminds me so much of my a level experience, the two years before my 18th birthday and a few months following. i hated school for the first time ever really, yet they are the times i look back at most fondly. i was definitely 'lost' as i was losing the person i thought i was, yet i began to travel with my best friends and created amazing memories, walking the streets drinking, laughing the whole day through, feeling on top of the world. it is the last time i truly felt free. this isn't a sad song for me, just reminiscent for the end of my childhood that i will always be grateful for and hold dear. i can relate to every single line, and i think if i had a theme song for my life at now 20, this would always be it.
