Paul, I’ve owned the e-tron 55 Quattro Sportback for just over a year. I have the virtual mirrors, not by choice but because Audi included them in the Premium Pack with lots of other goodies. It really is the quietest, most comfortable and luxurious EV out there. I did lots of research before purchase and actually had an order in for a Model X and was contemplating the Mercedes EQC. But seeing, riding and talking to MX owners I was persuaded not to part with the AU$185k Tesla wanted. The EQC was much more of an SUV look and the fact that it is EXACTLY the same chassis, body as the ICE equivalent (built on the same production line!), with less rear room dissuade me. Audi gave me one to live with for a weekend (Tesla, didn’t care), and we were able to negotiate a very good price that included 6-year service, 6-year roadside assist, 6-year FREE Chargefox charging, FREE home wiring & installation of a charger, 5-year unlimited km warranty! It’s a brilliant Gran Tourer car and punts along the road, even twisties just nice. Is it super “accelerative” - No but for a 2600kg car it does nice. Now, the weight comes from superior construction, noise cancellation materials and superior battery Thermal Management. Stop looking solely at spec sheets - it’s the mark of a naivety. The e-tron has a 150kW charge rate but this rate is maintained flat from just about 0-80% SOC!! Which means in the real world using 350kW chargers I can add about 50kW in 20 mins which is over 200Km of range! In my car I have seen consumption as low as 19.7 kWh/100km and as high as 28.9 kW/100km when cruising at the legal limit on Motorways - it most depends on weather particularly wind speed and direction. So theoretically I can get over 400km of range from the 86.5kW of useable battery capacity, but I budget 350km. The virtual mirrors, you get used to but have found them no problem and are better to some degree - zero blind spot, can see perfectly in pouring rain and/or dirty window and great at night. There is a vertical Qi (wireless), charger in my car to the left of the cup holders. There is no cover on the cup holders because when you place a drink there the top become level container so you don’t knock it. The raised padded section with the gear shift is a Palm-Rest, where you place your wrist or palm to operate the lower touch screen and the physical buttons (even a physical Volume knob!), so entry is precise an no flailing arms trying to locate soft buttons. Let me know if you want any more info.
My lowest consumption was unter 15kWh/100km :) with a 55 SB. Two weeks ago I reached 15,6kWh/100km over 290km distance. The right foot makes the consumption. If you can drive the e-tron very calm and constant at lower speed you can easy reach WLTP oder more. If you drive 110 (gauge cluster) on a flat road you are just under 20kWh/100km. And I totally agreee, the e-tron is one of the most comfortable EVs you can buy in the moment
Hi Paul. A physical volume and tuning knob, physical temperature control, and glass side mirrors are still a must for me. I embrace tech but I find these touch screens and camera 'mirrors' just a fuss. Thank you for a great review.
Hi Paul, I’m an e-tron 55 owner here in Sydney! (My car in my profile pic) It’s a fantastic car and very comfortable ride, I do want to say the wireless charger is near the cup holder on the side where there is a clip to slot your phone in.. also I want to point out about the side camera mirrors as I do have them on my personal Audi e-tron, I love them, I hated it at first.. took a week or two and I actually prefer it… in the rain it’s clear, everyone looks at them very confused (which I enjoy) and gives less of a blind spot in my vision. Great video Car Expert 😃
Really good real-world review... a bit worried about range but excited too- my car in this exact same colour arrives next month...its still early days for EV but its part of the brave new world...remember the first brick mobile phones!!!
i agree about the side mirror, need to keep that real. same for the steering wheel where some manufacturers go fancy. this is fundamental to safe driving.
How do those digital mirrors respond to things like flashing emergency lights or headlights? I feel like it would be much harder to get someones attention vs traditional mirrors.
Those “mirrors” Lol I doubt the aero gains from the cameras on a 2.7tonne hulking SUV are gonna make much difference to real mirrors, in every day driving. Even F1 cars still use actual mirrors. That’s hilarious.
Good video. Thank you. Big breaks because it’s so bloody heavy; much more than similar size EVs. Can definitely feel it’s heavier weight! Not a fan of Audi regen breaking. A fan of the Sportback. Would have considered the non S model but could not get over the much heavier feel, lack of competitive range, and the regen breaking options.

175k. Well I'm guessing the suspension required to control 3t of blobby mass must cost a small fortune. 2nd owners are in for a shock when the clunking starts. Also, is 3t enough to sink into 30c tarmac?
I can see those charging spots will be a problem. All cars get a lot of road grime and dirt in that area, sprayed up from the front wheels, inevitability that will get inside that cover and make it difficult to plug in.
I’ve owned one for over a year. It’s NOT a real world problem on this car. Also, I f it does happen it covers the door flap! So none of it gets into the contacts.
im not disapointed in lack of wireless charging as it surely cant be good for you. ive tested and noticed that these charges when active is able to disrupt and block signals like radio signals, you also get a bit electricity (can even be felt)😊
Looked at the specs on carsales for an e-tron S (like this one) - carsales reckons its tare mass is 2830kg and its GVM 3170kg (!?) So you can only carry 340kg of passengers and cargo??? You'd be pushing that with a couple of larger folks in the front, kids and luggage
I find these things awkwardly shaped. As you say they're more like a hatchback, but at the same time look like a fat bloated sedan in a way. Better just make it an actual sedan.
Almost like the good old A4 Sedan, the sharkvin is a BMW look a like ugly -. The 22" wheels are an apsolute +. Nice dashboard, but i prefere real buttons and switches. The A4Sedan boot is still supperior. The 1800Kg towing is great, but so is the price.
I’ve owned the S-line Sportback 55 for over a year now. It has a useable battery capacity of 86.5kW and on freeway trips cruising at the legal limit I have seen consumption down below 20kWh/100km! For an EV, the weather especially wind speed and direction plays a big part. So theoretically over 400km of range. I budget on 350km of range.

@@Makul-rt4sz I have had my car for over a year. You DONT need 800km range. I typically do two three long trips a year. most of my driving is in Sydney.
