They were joking when they said that. They've stated this same idea in interviews before and laughed about it. Essentially, they were taking the piss on bands that do do that.
I don't give a f**k if the interviewer plays the drums too. Quit trying to relate and be cool, dude. You're SO not on their level. You're supposed to be interviewing Dan and Pat, not showing yourself off with your hip, over-explanatory "knowledge".
that was alan cross interviewing them. he's the real deal- search for the history of new music and you'll see his work. they're obviously tired as hell from doing so many interviews each day along with their tour schedule. would you prefer some giggling twat from mtv?
How did Dan and Patrick survive 10 minutes with this guy? Holy shit. They may not be stoned during the interview, but damn wouldn't surprise me if they got high as a kite after...
i love how he doesnt tune down or use effects. thats all a really great guitar player needs, a guitar, and amp, and soul. people like tom morello have to rely on that, but dont get me wrong its cool, but dan knows whats up.
that was funny as hell Dan @ 1:10. I think the interviewer was thinking he was going to get a serious answer. He didn't even laugh at Dan. He obliviously wasn't ready for anything other than the questions he had prepared. His next question was like 50 seconds long. Haha, I love that these guys don't take themselves to seriously.....It's typical that a song like Tighten Up is their first song on the radio. I love TBK but Tighten Up is my least favorite on the entire album.
I think what most the interviewers lack is the understanding that Dan comes from a small town and did not know how famous he would become until it actually happened. Also if every show he plays at does an interview and asks questions about "Tighten Up" or any other song off of Brothers he will get bored of the same question during every interview. I want to see any interviewer that understands this concept and actually talks about some of their older albums such as The Big Come Up. Heck if he
@pistolpete0500 haha I laughed so hard at that comment... funnier that some ppl will take that statement seriously... this is two guys who just enjoy making music, and somehow have continued to do it for 10 years
Well done sir, you managed to go 1:49 without mentioning the white stripes. Such a cliche whenever you see a two piece band :( Black keys seem to only get recognition when compared with the white stripes and thats just not fair.
Dan seems to me as just the musician. It flows through him and he only cares about the music. Pat seems to be much more focused with interviews, and the image of the group, but can still hit those drums. It's a very good balance. Just how Trey Parker is the creative force on South Park writing the story, and Matt Stone makes sure his idea is created. The Black keys are just like that. Sidenote: Just bought Thickfreakness, and I love it.
HILARIOUS! These guys are funny in such a dry/subtle way and this interviewer totally does not get that...Plus he is stressing me out how he asks questions. I would hate to be a musician and have to get interviewed by him.
"We try to deliver to every audience, so we can get as much money as we possibly can at the front door." Oh my god these guys are hilarious.
The interviewer is such a knobhead. He doesn't even laugh.
They were joking when they said that. They've stated this same idea in interviews before and laughed about it. Essentially, they were taking the piss on bands that do do that.
They are musically married, they better never break up
They are soo fucking sarcastic! Its great!
Dan and Pat should work on a comedy act next.....dudes be funny as hell. The old blues thing is pretty well done now. (Done freaking well of course)
I don't give a f**k if the interviewer plays the drums too. Quit trying to relate and be cool, dude. You're SO not on their level. You're supposed to be interviewing Dan and Pat, not showing yourself off with your hip, over-explanatory "knowledge".
3 people have no taste..
@9:50 Thank you camerman for catching the smokin chick checking out the travel flyers
i want to see a black keys interview about past interviewers.
I love how the interview doesn't understand sarcasm at all.
that was alan cross interviewing them. he's the real deal- search for the history of new music and you'll see his work. they're obviously tired as hell from doing so many interviews each day along with their tour schedule. would you prefer some giggling twat from mtv?

Let me hold a pencil in my hand, grab my chin, and interject something that makes me seem cool and follow that up with a question.
i love how he doesnt tune down or use effects. thats all a really great guitar player needs, a guitar, and amp, and soul. people like tom morello have to rely on that, but dont get me wrong its cool, but dan knows whats up.
Lol, Dan's attitude throughout this video is like..."Stop trying to act like you know everything...you don't."
"Ya know" - The Black Keys lol
It's a good interview. You want to make it two-way and relaxed like a conversation. He'd done a lot of research that is obvious.
when im bored i watch the black keys interviews.. :D
the beauty of black keys interviews. purposely awkward and sarcasm executed so well it sounds like their being serious. such a great band.
i love how serious the interviewer is and pat and dan are so sarcastic.

alan cross loves the sound of his own voice
@pistolpete0500 haha I laughed so hard at that comment... funnier that some ppl will take that statement seriously... this is two guys who just enjoy making music, and somehow have continued to do it for 10 years

Love this band
there's a Japanese guy named miabi.... i just had to let out a giggle after the interviewer uttered that statement. Guy is a total flush handle.
There album cover wasnt there idea also it was howling wolf's idea. Search it
@achickensandwich oh my god i was thinking that and then when i saw your comment, i was like "thumbs up! thumbs up! thumbs up!" haha
I can't find a longer interview with them. It pisses me right off too because I had to stop watching because this guy is so annoying.
he was like "WHO WERE THOSE KIDS? :D"
And I could see Dan got a little concerned like "WTF.. This pedophile.."
That girl in the background seems to have no idea that there are gods on the other side of that velvet rope. haha
Wow Dan hates interviews. I can't blame him. Music interviews are ridiculous.
@pistolpete0500 and then the interview thought he was serious and moved on haha
he says he doesnt tune down but he plays stack shot billy and busted in open g
Pot heads this interviewer totally doesn't get it i love you black keys
most interesting interview but too much noise in the back
what up with the incessant chin grab alan? it's highly distracting...
The Black Keys seem like a difficult band to interview.
You can tell they don't like the interviewer very much.....
They're like defending their credibility throughout this whole interview.
This guy is taking the interview WAY TO SERIOUSLY!
the interviewer didn't laugh at their jokes???
why does the camera man film the interviewer??
@TrevorHand he uses effects and tunes down all the time. Loads of guitarists do. You blatantly don't play
Alan cross looks a lot like gener ween
@secretagentYTer haha I saw that! xD
@kimowasabe
Alan Cross has no sense of humor...
Dan seems to me as just the musician. It flows through him and he only cares about the music. These guys are quite baked.
Dan and Pat are good sports.
HILARIOUS! These guys are funny in such a dry/subtle way and this interviewer totally does not get that...Plus he is stressing me out how he asks questions. I would hate to be a musician and have to get interviewed by him.
Alan is such a tool, lol
Dan looks so pissed and Pat is playing the mediator but Dan still looks like he wants to rip this interviewing tool's head off go for it Dan!
Yeah he's super lame!
these guys are so deadpan in interviews- but i love it!
also check out Pat from 9:25 onwards what is he staring at so intensely?? ahaha
lol pat @9:25
HAHA yes
I like what Alan Cross has to say in this video
"It comes with a 12lb weight in it." They're wonderful.
Haha "classic" misunderstanding of sarcasm
when im bored i watch you...0_0
9:30 look at pat!
oh hi alan
