I've seen a lot of jumping technique videos and this easily the best I've seen. Kudo's to your cameraman, some brilliant camera angles which really helped with Chris' commentary.
Chris, great video with some excellent tips. This is one of the most informative tutorials i've seen on jumps especially the bit about the preload. Top job. 👍
my first big crash on my ebike was a nosedive, I was not ready for that haha thankfully, channels like these and practice has improved my jumping skills
Great vid, Chris. I have never jumped an eBike, and not jumped any bike since I was a kid. However, as I am about to get an eMTB for commuting, and as I have a small bike park near me, I am going to have a go. Better sort out the dental insurance first, though. And as for product placement, have you seen the Bike Vault section....? Loads of product placement in there! My thoughts are that in the real world of UA-cam, anything that can generate income helps to support the channel and pay to produce great content which we as viewers can access for free. Whether or not EMBN are ACTUALLY doing this is irrelevant, really. As a professional in my field, I don't work for nothing, and neither should they. One final point - much of your work is focused on people who are already riding and who have experience. Is there scope for a section on "Newbie News" (other cheesy titles are available), where people new to the sport or returning after many years like myself can be taught techniques, skills and knowledge, and then duly shared with your audience, to help them improve and get more enjoyment and confidence on their bikes?
There is plenty from gmbn, skills with phil, seths bike hacks etc etc. The techniques between ebike and std are the same its just weight that is the big difference. I switch all the time and I think the ebike is more forgiving but it does take more physical effort. Watch someone else, start small, get someone to vid them and you if you are struggling. Get a tow in for approach speed. Most common mistake for me was trying too hard. Learn to compress your bike using your legs and pushing down on the pedals. Keep a bend in your arms and feel the timing of the bike coming back up and raise with it. See how high you can get with both wheels off the ground on a flat. Timing is everything and keeping your feet on the pedals. If you pull up too quick you will come off the pedals or dead sailor. Its like golf, learn the correct technique dont try to overcome with speed and effort. Session a jump you are comfortable with, makes a big mental difference. Last tip, wear protection and have fun as it can be scary and going weightless in the air takes time to get used too..
@@midlifebiker7424 Thanks very much for the tips! I has a little go yesterday on a speed bump! Not sure I got any air, but was good to focus on feet position, compressing, hearing the various noises, etc. Lots to get going on with your reply, so thanks again. Next stop, space. Or A&E. Cheers!
@@ebikecommuting457 The learning curve never stops as we seek new and bigger challenges. Its surprising how much air you can get with the right technique even from a tree root. Have fun and stay away from A&E, the nurses arent worth it haha
I have a question I recently got my Miclon Cybertrack 100, and I’ve been using my bike but it feels like once I go fast the bike his off little hops like if has a flat tired but it’s a strong durable tired with a full amount of air. Anyone know what’s up with it?
A really good video, having just had a big off on a jump and stitched up in A&E with a few weeks off with a damaged rotator cuff, I’m learning,! Is this a private track you filmed this at?
I‘am completely new to e biking wanted to know. 1. do you put your pointing finger always on the brakes during jumping? I feel safer during the jump not having them there. But sometimes you have to slow down immediately 2. the preloading before the jump bounces me off sideways sometimes. Yet nothing happened so far but the landing is always really scary in that situation. Any tips beside the obvious which is staying centered? 3. do you also pull up your bike with your Arms After preload and take off? Also sometimes my feet lose contact to the pedals which is also a weird feeling
I shouldn't answer since I've never really jumped, but it's so interesting I can't stop myself. For finger positioning, I'd say you're supposed to adjust the speed before preloading and jumping, and keeping fingers off the brake helps avoid panic braking in the air so the wheels can roll freely at landing. But moving your fingers back and forth on and off the brakes on a jump track like A-line seems so unintuitive I have to say you're probably supposed to learn how to ride with one finger on the brake at all times. About losing pedal contact - I need to adress that myself - I'd guess it's a case of stiff legs. You just need to be more active on the bike, preloading, pulling up on the handlebar, keeping legs slightly bent and allowing the bike to flow like water beneath you. Same principle as a skateboard. It's really hard until you learn how to do it - like brain surgery. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to call my lawyer to prepare my defense for pretending to know anything about this ....
Being a multitasker from all my work on bad habits. Have you guys got videos to got with step one then two and so on Really got heaps out of your videos one day I will progress to an Emtbike maybe be for my seventieth. Not for of now Thank you
" common e bike mistakes" ......I don't think so . Maybe common any bike jumping mistakes. There isn't one thing wich can be said only for e bikes. Otherwise good unoriginal video.
Thanks 👍🍺 I'm a beginner eMTB, KOOK 4 months in the making 61yo
Nosedive.. deadsailor.. Bad Footwork.. I usually combine all three as I like a challenge hehe
We'll just label you a multitasker 😉
Lol I only nosedive

Is it right that a dab of rear brake mid air can bring the nose down a bit?
I would love to know wich bike you are using in this video. (:

Can you guys do a video on aftermarket electric conversions?

Only for big/huge Jumps.
Look at dirt jumpers. No back squish there. But if you case the landing the rear will catapult into the sunset...
Where is this?
Great vid again chris for all mtbr's... nose dive also from having weight to far back on a full sus espec, as u also had in ur jumping basics vid.
I wish I bought the patent on curb jumping in 1975.
Without crashes i dont see the practical guidance in the video. Please show the full picture there.
liked the vid, where these jumps at?
