- PART ONE - The decision to drop the atom bomb, the secrecy surrounding the mission, and the men who flew it. This made-for-TV historical drama chronicles the personal and professional lives of Colonel Paul Tibbets and the airmen who dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. The story is based on a book by Gordon Thomas and Max Gordon Witts and also looks at the ways in which the aftermath of the bombing affected their lives.
Cast: Patrick Duffy, Gregory Harrison, Billy Crystal, Kim Darby, Stephen Macht. This TV-Movie first aired on November 23, 1980.

I have pictures of the Enola Gay and her crew from 1944, by great Grandfather worked on the Sitting Pretty beside her.

But unfortunately he did not live to see me graduate high school, I wish he could have seen me going to enlist. But unfortunately I wasn't able to due to a medical emergency. I'm still angry about that happening.

I have a relative who worked on the B-29 to make it be able to fly higher than normal - then it was named The Enola Gay. It wasn't always.
No, that individual B-29 was named 'Enola Gay'; the aircraft itself remains a B-29. It's no different than a ship or boat. Everyone gives theirs a name for good luck, but the craft itself stays the same
Enola gay was the name of Paul Tibbets mom
it was known simply as Plane #82, I think, before being named by Col. Paul Tibbets after his mother.
I'm re watching this after many years... doesn't seem to be good as I remember. I'll think I'll stick to the Robert Taylor movie

Watched from Jamaica, B 29's came to Jamaica at Vernam Field on training missions to bomb Japan in early 1945 and I believe the B29 that did the photo shoot of the bomber crew did some training at Vernam Field.
