My first car was 68 Mustang . I wish mine had the 302 and the GT style wheels . I had the same color interior and the vinyl roof . Bought mine in 77 and sold it in 85 to get married with a baby on the way . Love the 67, 68 Mustangs good luck with it !
Thanks so much for the input and also what you call the GT wheels. See, I'm still learning. My wheels don't have the GT logo in the center on the hubcap but maybe they are still consider GT wheels. not sure. And you also had the vinal roof. Nice! Just got back from the local shop and they are going to put disc brakes on the front. Looking forward to that upgrade.
Hi, very nice Mustang. Great color! That engine sounds perfectly healthy! If its not burning oil, and running smooth as it seems, I'd leave it be. My engine is tired, could use a rebuild, leaky valve guides, but still runs smooth, good oil pressure, runs cool. For as much as i drive it, it ok as is. Around town on weekends for usual errands, the occasional car show, and occasionally over to the Newport Beach or Costa Mesa to stretch her legs. About 100 miles away from home. Factory AC was pretty rare, your car has it, thats a real plus.I have it on my 68 also. Ive kept mine bone stock, yeah still running points! So here is my story, similar to yours. I have a 68 Stang I bought in 1977 from the original owners. I was 18. Was in very nice condition, factory AC, power steering, automatic, and the optional hood with the turn signal indicators in it. It was Diamond blue, white vynil top, 2 tone blue interior. I paid 600 dollars for it. Of course that was alot more money back then. Drove it for about 6 months and hated that powder blue girlie color lol. So had it painted Corvette white and that looked great with the white top, and the blue interior. It was my daily for about 3 years till i bought my 1st brand new car. It was purchased new at Palm Springs California, in December of 67. If you're not familiar with Palm Springs, its a desert area about 120 miles east of Los Angeles. Thanks to our dry climate, and 0 snow, hell it hardly ever rains here! We did have a very wet winter this year though. Its rust free, the entire body is original, the undercarriage has a little bit of surface rust in smal places here and there, but nothing that amounts to any concern or necessary intervention. So here is what ive been told about early and later 68s...The early built cars, like mine, have the flat flush red refectors in the rear quarters, and the later built cars have the raised chrome surrouned refector. Mine is flat and flush. Also, the early builds and mine was built in 67, have the 289, and later ones got the 302. Mine says 289. Ive replaced the vynil top on my car 3 times over 47 years. Our strong sun does take a toll on things. 10 years ago I decided to redo the entire interior ,seats, headliner, carpet, new dashpad, new instrument cluster surround, all new weatherstripping, , door cards, and all the interior metal repainted. All in factory correct materials, grains, and colors. And another new vynil top. My Upholsterer had the car about 2 months, i would go check on the car from tim to time, and got a little nervous when everything was apart!!! Front and rear glass out, dash out, everything in the car..out, i did get to see the entire floor pan and it was in great shape. When it was finished and I went to pick it up i truly couldn't believe it. It absolutely looked brand new. It smelled like a new car lol. Well, anyway its obvious we both love our cars, enjoy running around in them . Thanks for sharing your story, enjoyed it! Take care and be well.
Hi and thanks so much for sharing! Great story and very similar. I got a kick out of how many times you redid the vinyl top. Sounds like you have really put some money into it. Not cheap if you have someone else do the work. Just had my car in and I think I'm going to get some disk brakes put on the front. It will just be that much safer. Thanks again for viewing and your story. Loved it! So fun to hear about the stories.
That's great it's your first car and still have it today after all those years I live in Australia and have a 67coupe a/c p/s can't go past a Mustang had a few from 65-70 last of the best body style
I have had my 68 since 91. I would recommend getting a monte carlo bar and one piece export brace. These additions have changed my entire driving experience,
Nice video, and thank you for sharing your car. I also bought my 68 mustang in late December 78 and picked it up 1st week of January 79. I needed my older brother to drive it home since I was only 15 . I still have Highland Green Gt 390 half year as you call it. Enjoy your J code 302 four barrel cruises !
Never thought about it but I guess you are correct. Rarer than a 64 1/2. As long as I have had it I have never seen another one just like mine. Thanks for your input!
The extremely rare 68 1/2 Mustangs had the GT package. These were R Codes which meant the car was equipped with a 428 Cobra Jet engine. Besides the GT badging there was a hood mounted functional air scoop and a wide matte black stripe that ran from the windshield to the front of the hood. The GT was designed as a street legal dragster and is the fastest Mustang in the quarter Ford ever sold to the public in the classic era. Few survive since most were blown up racing. Most were in Wimbledon White with Black interior. With the rare 4.30 rear gear ratio one is a total blast to drive on an open roadway. All GT’s were equipped with four on the floor.
Nice video.
I’ve had my 1968 mustang fastback since 1968. Acapulco blue.
The journey never ends!
Wow! That is really something. Good for you. My car was used when I got it and it was 11 years old. Great story, thanks for sharing.
Great story love the cat love the color my neighbor had a 390 fast back same color have the same car for over 40 years wow
Thanks for watching. Love this car and like it more every year. Do wish it was the Boss 428 though, R code. :) But I will enjoy what I have.
Right on! Bought my '69 when I was 15, still have it going on 33 years!
Cool! I hope it's still running. I bet you hear it all the time as well. "I sure wish I had my first car". We can say we still do. Thanks for viewing.

The ever elusive 68-1/2 mustang. Many times rarer than the 64-1/2 mustang. One of none in the collector world.
