    Bought John innes no 3
Compost. If I’d knew it was 75% sand I’d have gone to the beach and filled up a couple of buckets of the stuff. Luckily I’ve got a grass clippings supplier. Think I’ll stick to what I know.

I have been a professional grower since 1982. Over the years I have used all kinds of compost. They have often had all kinds of crap in them. I use a compost based on composted bark and wood chip now. It's been a few years since I found anything inorganic in it but I get the odd peice of wood but it's not a problem. What I would suggest is that if you buy this stuff and are unhappy with it. You tell the retailer and find a better brand. £9 is insane for that stuff if you ask me.

@@GrowYourOwnLife I think that is the way forward. We are trying out composting our waste on the nursery. Sweepings, weeds, wasted plants. I am hoping to offer it locally as a soil improver. Maybe for a donation to a local charity

I like Jack magic my has a rich and dark consistency. No sand, twigs stones or plastic! Used it for years for all my planets especially for roses.. it has body not like some bags you open that like dust.

Thanks for doing this series, a very worthwhile endeavour. That Westland looks VERY sandy - at £9 I'd have hoped for more organics, although I didn't think that the twig and stone count was too bad. I wonder how much of the £9 is for the brand name?
Side note - I'm glad you mentioned that you're working on the sound. Part 1 was worse audio-wise so you're getting there👍.

Great video. I just picked up 3 bags for £12 in morisons each 40 (or maybe 50L) bags. I just grabbed them as theyre one of the cheapest I could find. Not expecting huge results but the quality isn't awful.

Agree 9 quid for plastic, considering buying 4 bags of peat compost been sitting in allotment shop last 5years seems all of us won’t to do the right thing but they are already dug up and seems a waste. I am convinced the rise in lactose and gluten intolerance is a direct result of all the plastics in the environment.

@Grow Your Own Life a single twig in a whole bag is acceptable. Its amusing how you reply to my comment, and with sarcasm. Yet, you have not even bothered to reply to some of the people showing you love in the comments. I think you overlooked their comments too.

westlands is the worst of the worst. thats what i used to buy. it's water retention that's needed. not extra drainage with sand. this brand is the one i was forever picking lumps of metal from. if it includes john innes, wheres the loam?...................brian
