did the tame the mid driver on these, normally they are way too loud in the midrange and the balance is no good on these speakers.

I'm not sure they "tamed" the mid-range so much, as they altered the balance to provide a bit more treble emphasis and resolution. The 40.3's and 30.3's seem to have a balance more like the SHL5's do.

Please get rid off the TelluriumQ speaker cables. Try something else and you will see the improvement. I recommend Jorma Unity speaker cables.
