in these troubled times I have changed my preferred channels, this and Malcolm Guite's channel have been excellent additions to my listening.
"Of all detestable places, Washington is the first. Crowd, heat, bad quarters, bad fare, bad smells, mosquitoes, and a plague of flies transcending everything within my experience. Beelzebub surely reigns here, and Willard's Hotel is his temple."
- George Templeton Strong
I listened to your talk on Pints With Aquinas, and started following you for your philosophical conversations . Thank you and I would like to hear more on your topic of “liberal Christianity “. I am also recently converted Catholic
Thank you Allan, I really enjoyed this video very much. I wish it was a longer video but I understand and look forward to more.
Pius IX’s “Syllabus of Errors” is a must read especially in these times.
Love your channel and content! Being from California (hate it here). And always loving everything about the south, along with the love for pipes all makes your channel and A+!!! Keep up the great work and content! I always look forward to watching your channel!
I do so appreciate your view, as a cradle revert Catholic myself, listening and getting deeper understanding of a multitude of important things, all whilst smoking my pipes. So, no matter the subject, the pipe is never far behind. 🎉
It is encouraging to me that you made it through a college and we're not thrown out because of your sensible views.
I would argue that you can't just read "conflict of visions" without reading "vision of the anointed" which is the sequel
Thanks for sharing the informative content. We have missed seeing you. Thankful for the reminder "something greater than ourselves." God is Supreme over all and still on the throne.
This is fantastic! I’d love to hear more of these from you. God bless!
Excellent! Love the topics and insights!
I just bought a Savinelli St. Nicholas pipe. Great pipe!
Great video and great topic, we need to reawaken the true definitions of words that have been mutated over the years.
The national Mall and the few blocks surrounding it are so beautiful. The larger city is filled with pure filth
Thank you for your wisdom 🙏, God bless you.
We need a more public discourse on Conservatism and Progressivism outside of the monied pantheon of political ideology and media as I believe it would change many minds back towards a country Gen-X and previous generations would recognize.
I say, what a marvelous video! Appreciate the content, Sir!!
Thank you for an excellent video, Sir. Kind regards from South Africa.
In the US the left wing (democrat) and right wing (republican) parties are really just two wings on the same bird. Both are leading us into degeneracy and totalitarianism- one however is leading us their directly and quickly and the other indirectly. The last few years have seen a "new right" emerge which I have some hope in.
Well worth reflecting upon. I studied both Greek and Roman history and culture in university and it shapes one's reading of more recent and more local history and culture to have a longer view. I recall about 15 years ago I was in a meeting at a conference, I was an Anglican Catholic in the TAC at the time having left evangelical protestantism, and the meeting seemed to be turning aimlessly in circles. I then posed the question in more or less these words "We identify ourselves as conservatives, what then are we conserving? let us define it before we get off into the weeds further" and of course Anglicans being Anglicans ended up unable to answer the question or provide any sort of definition. Within 3 years I entered the Catholic Church.
I appreciate your insights, and yes, place of origin and where we live matters. The mud Adam was made from was scooped up from a certain spot...
Alan, I truly enjoyed this video. I look forward to future videos on your thoughts about conservatism.
Fantastic!
Allan, I think your thesis here is an excellent one. Most of your points are cogent and well defended.
I consider myself a Reagan conservative and have come to find both political parties nearly unrecognizable. The progressives have so embraced individualism as to make moral judgment irrelevant, even offensive. The “conservatives” have abandoned the moral high ground by choosing the most amoral man to represent them and have fallen into the fatal trap of relativism.
It is a sad state and poor electoral choices.
I would respectfully disagree on one point: multiculturalism is not the enemy of conservatism. I argue that certain cultural additions to the American experiment have strengthened the conservative philosophical practice. Specifically, Vietnamese immigrants in the 1970s and Cuban exiles in the 1960s.
But this is a wonderful topic and helps remind me that no matter how hyped up the country gets about this upcoming election, and both parties lay claim to the “save the country mantle”, there isn’t a conservative on the ballot.
Great stuff. Thanks Allan
Liked this on the DC comment
Thank you Allan, I enjoyed this video .
Need more Allan !
This "liberal Christianity" is unfortunately the water we swim in, here in America. It's tough to completely scrub it out of our thinking, but reading the Church Fathers and scripture certainly helps.
Wonderful and necessary video.
This was fantastic! Would love to see more. Would make for a great topic/ guest for Auron Macintyre
The District of Columbia is a foreign city-state; it is not a part of America.
this is so much better than pipes. (i smoke pipes)
Have you seen The Catholic Pipe Company? They have some really cool designs.
Fantastic video! Very informative and I’d love to hear more like this.
I deeply wish you more widely read.
And viewed the community of Christ as larger than your own learned opinions.
Wow.
@PatrickCurtain Judging by the size of his library he appears to be quite read to me 🤭
